Doing It Deluxe, Indulgence for 14 Nights... With Pics!! **Update: CALIFORNIA GRILL**

WOW! 14 days at Disney and the Deluxe Dining Plan. I would be in Heaven. Love the pics. They are great.

I just read your whole thread so far - great reviews! We just got back in September, but with picky kids we didn't get to try much on the exciting side. We're heading back with a large group of family in 2010, and we'll be trying some different things, trust me! Thanks for all the detail. :goodvibes Looking forward to reading more!

WOW! That Porterhouse looked amazing! I love mushrooms and steak and I really think I'm going to have to try Yachtman's when we go next October. I can't wait to read the rest of your reviews.

Thanks for sharing your Yachtsman's dinner:thumbsup2 It is one our all-time favorites. As a matter of fact we are having Christmas Day dinner there:santa:

We love the chateaubriand!
:santa: Sounds like a great Christmas meal!!

Hey There A.

The food review is great! I'm enjoying the read. Thanks!

I also heard through the grapevine that you ran into some Indy folks on the plane to and from Orlando. Very cool! :cool1:

Looking forward to reading more.

Thanks!
We also ran into them while at Animal Kingdom, then again while they were getting their anniversary photo shoot on the beach.

We're trying Yachtsman for the first time next month, can't wait! That seafood salad has my name all over it...YUM!
Hope you have a great meal and great trip!
Your reviews are fab!

That chateau looks yum and the mushrooms DROOL!!!!! I could eat all those pans full ;)
Thank you!
Mushrooms! Me too! popcorn::

Wow! The Yachtsman looked fabulous!
:) :)

Pictures are fantastic. Have ressies for 1900 Park Fare with DD, DSIL and DGD on 12/10/08. I love the pictures of the food. What worried me was that Mary Poppins was not there!!??? DD has waited 11 years to meet her. I specifically requested this restaurant as the first reservation when I called for our trip. Called 180 days out from 12/4; requested this restaurant for our day planned away from the park as this is the most special request from my daughter who has not stayed at the World since 1997. (Going with them 12/4-12/14 then my mom 12/15-12/19 as she lives in Deland, FL.) So I was excited to see your review of the 1900 Park Fare and will look forward to your upcoming review of Narcoossees as well. They are all great. Again, thanks to you, your wife and DD for thinking of all of us out here waiting for these great pictures and this awesome review. I am so glad you mentioned that Mary Poppins was absent and Snow White stood in for her, but I know my adult daughter will break down into tears if Mary Poppins is not there the day we go. I will have to find out if I can call ahead and find out about this. Isn't it called the Supercalafragalistic breakfast?? The food looks awesome but that is not our reason for going...although it is a very good reason, for me, because I love the fact that the offerings go beyond the usual fare; that will not matter to my DD (who is now 23). Eleven years ago it was much more difficult to meet the characters. Not even sure if this restaurant offered this breakfast back then as it was our first ever trip and I had a lot to learn for sure. Anyway, thanks for the info. Now I will make every effort to find out about this.
I had originally made this ADR simply for the same reason, except the adult is my DW! She just loves Mary Poppins and was very disappointed that she was a no show... but the good news... we still seen her 3 other times and got some pics too! Mary Poppins was right out in the front of the UK in Epcot for signing and pictures, she was outside of Akershus when we went for breakfast, and one other time.

WOW!!!!
What great reviews.
OK. Now I am really thinking of getting Y&Y for lunch when in AK. Yum.:)

And since DH and I have an open night for dinner and Yachtsman looks delish, well I'm going to try like the dickens to get an ADR.:rolleyes1

YE HAW what a fun time y'all had.:upsidedow :upsidedow
Thank You! :thanks:

Gah! You lucky guy, getting to try one of the last servings of foie gras before WDW removed it from their menus. I was a bit jealous of you guys.

And holy crap! I can't believe your daughter finished that steak!
It sure looked great. Everything did, especially all the mushroom goodness. :cloud9:

Thanks for the Yachtsman review and pictures. We are doing Christmas Eve dinner there and plan to order a few of those items...so it was nice to see them and hear they were good! Makes me more excited about going there now.
You're welcome, hope your holiday meal is wonderful!
I can't believe that your DD finished a 24oz Porterhouse :woohoo: That is amazing.
Loving all the reviews and pictures.:thumbsup2
She is gonna kill me for posting this LOL:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Le Cellier Steakhouse, Lunch, 09-19-08

DSC05821.jpg

Today was our first day at Epcot and we spent our whole day here!
We started out at park opening and spent the morning catching all the attractions in the Future World area.

When we arrived at Canada, we found ourselves to be very surprised by how empty it was here, only one store left open in the pavilion area, and a stand area at the bottom in the walkway around World Showcase.

Our reservations were for 11:40am. We arrived at around 11:20 and checked in, we were on of the first few groups to check in and waited in the area next to the podium.

As we waited all of the CM's came to the area and did a performance of the national song for Canada.... "O Canada", those CM's who spoke Canadian/French sang in their native language. This was a nice start to the meal, and if you get a chance to be there for restaurant opening you will get to see this.

For beverages we ordered smoothies, this is one of the restaurants that allows them as your beverage on the dining plan.

I hate to say it, but I really don't understand what all the fuss about this place is. I suppose that I am glad so many people find so much pleasure in it, but our experience was not that great.

I would say our biggest problem with our experience was the service, simply awful. Our server took forever to bring our drinks and after that she came back and asked if our appetizers were good?... we hadn't even got them yet...LOL, then after that we seen her once for the rest of the meal.
Next thing about this place, we just wasn't impressed with the food. I mean there wasn't really anything wrong with it, but it was just not great or even memorable.

Well, take a look at our meals and I will give more info along the way.

The Bread
We really enjoyed the pretzel bread and as much as we wanted more of it, we knew that saving room for our meal would be our smartest choice.

DSC05822.jpg

Appetizer

DD
Prince Edward Island Mussels - Served in a broth of coconut milk with celery, shallots, ginger, garlic, and rice wine. - $11.99
When these were brought out, JoJo was taken a bit by the amount you get... there are plenty of these to go around! She ate all of them but didn't really like the sauce, because she thought it was too spicy. I tried it and thought that it was OK, but glad I didn't order them.

DSC05824.jpg

DW
Tomato Stack - Made with caramelized onions, cucumbers, crumbled blue cheese, and Yuzu vinaigrette. - $8.99
Nothing negative about this dish... cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers... all on Mary's favorite list, and this app was gone before anyone could blink.

DSC05826.jpg

ME
Duck Two-Ways - Confit and Rillettes with marinated green apples and apple gastrique. - $12.99
I am not normally a fan of duck, but the appetizer menu didn't really appeal to me all that well, and this was the best pick for me. The duck had decent flavor and was tender.

DSC05823.jpg

Entrees

DW
Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - Served wild mushroom risotto and white truffle-herb butter sauce. - $25.99
Mary made a substitution for the risotto and got the cream cheese mashed potatoes. The filet was nothing special and lacked any memorable flavor, it was a piece of meat. The potatoes were good, but were not as flavorful as we were expecting.

DSC05829.jpg

ME
Pan-seared Halibut - Topped with tomato confit served over braised red beets. - $24.99
I did not want to start my day out by trying to chew a steak and strike a nerve in my tooth so I went with the fish. I like beets and this dish was not bad, the tomatoes on the top were sweet and chewy. After tying small bites of the ladies steaks, I was happy I chose the fish.

DSC05827.jpg

DD
New York Strip Steak - Served with balsamic red onions, watercress, and roasted Yukon potatoes finished with Bercy butter. - $29.99
Again... JoJo made the substitution and got the cream cheese mashed potatoes, and she too was hoping for more flavor. Ok.. I make a mean cream cheese mashed potato dish at home quite often and it is always a big hit with big flavor, so maybe that is the problem... they didn't measure up to mine, guess I can't complain too much about that. The steak was just fine, but just like the filet, a piece of meat and not memorable.

DSC05828.jpg

Desserts

DD & DW
Chocolate "Moose" - Chocolate Mousse rolled in Toasted Chocolate Crumbs with Maple Leaf Antlers $5.99
This dessert is much bigger than we thought it would be, we have seen pics on here before our trip and they always seemed to make this thing look pretty small, but the size was perfect!

DSC05834.jpg

DSC05831.jpg

ME
Chocolate-on-Chocolate Whiskey Cake - Chocolate cake brushed with Canadian whiskey, layered with chocolate mousse, and finished with honey thyme anglaise. - $7.99
I am not a big fan of cake, so I was nervous about trying this, but wanted to try the signature dessert. It was much better than I thought it would be and the layers of mousse made the perfect balance to offset the cake. More of the sauce would have been nice, this was very good.

DSC05830.jpg

Beverages

DD Chocolate Raspberry Shake - Rich chocolate with a blend of raspberry puree. - $4.29

DW Chocolate Raspberry Shake - Rich chocolate with a blend of raspberry puree. - $4.29

DSC05819.jpg

ME Mango Smoothie - With a splash of cranberry. - $4.29

DSC05818.jpg

Both flavors were good, but I liked the Mango better than the chocolate. It reminded me of the Fruitisia frozen drinks from Taco Bell, but better.

Beverage $ 12.87
Food $ 134.91
Tax $ 9.61
Total $ 157.39

Service
While I don't think that this is typical based on what everyone else says.... this was the absolute worst service we received on the whole trip. What I should say is lack of service from our server. To put it in perspective, we received better service every buffet we were at! This is one of 3 locations on our whole trip that the servers gratuity was adjusted in a negative way, this server almost got nothing, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that.

Atmosphere
A fairly nice place, but nothing impressive. It is a small restaurant in comparison to many others which probably is a large contributing factor for the difficulty in getting reservations. The decor is nice.

Food
While there are some good highlights here, we were not at all impressed and thought that most things lacked originality and flavor. The one flavor that does come to mind, is that there was a large use of pepper. The presentation was not horrible but could use some more effort. As you read through the different reviews by our family, keep in mind that we do not normally use any type of flavor enhancement on the food, such as steak sauce, butter, or salt, once the food reaches the table. We rely highly on the cook to provide the flavors for us, and I think that there was a failure to tease our palates here.

Overall
Due to the service, we did not enjoy this meal. Even if the service would have been any where near decent, I still don't understand the rave of this place. So... will we return? We might try to give it another chance sometime, but there is no hurry to return. I wouldn't suggest this place to people, but I wouldn't necessarily try to scare them away either. If you get a good server and aren't looking to be dazzled, I think you could be perfectly happy here.

I am really enjoying your reviews. I must say...the photo of your DD and her moose...well it is so FUNNY! I can totally see the urge to do that! As a matter of fact I almost want to go there JUST to get a photo of myself doing that. I do wonder however, if that then makes me closer mentally to a 15 year old than the 29 year old (:rolleyes1 ) woman I am! :rotfl2:

I do think you do go wrong by not adding anything at the table to your meat. You really MUST add ketchup, preferably Heinz and LOTS of it! :thumbsup2 I would use a 1:1 ratio myself (ya know equal ketchup to meat :rotfl: ) you get a LOT of flavor that way. I do mean a LOT!

In Vegas we went to Emeril's Steakhouse. Should have SEEM the look on the head waiter's face when I asked for ketchup before I even took a bite. :scared1: He wasnt happy with me. But he did bring it. (didnt want to loose that tip ya know ;) LOL) even on a fancy plate. My bff got me a t-shirt my next bday that says "I put Ketchup on my Ketchup". So true. :lmao:

Thanks for continuing the great food photos and reviews:thumbsup2

Have to agree with you on not getting the draw of LeCellier ... We have been there three times for lunch, most recently in June, and I found it noisy, crowded (I don't like sitting on top of people) and really average in food and service.

Then again ... different strokes for different folks:hippie:

It all comes down to service doesn't it?! Sorry to hear the service was lacking the day you were there :sad2:

I wonder what you would've thought of the meal itself if you had gone to LeCellier before going to Yachtsman (a signature restaurant). I can't help but think it would be like staying at the deluxe resort and then switching to the moderate. Just a thought....

Love the pics! I expect your DD will be posting soon :rolleyes1

Looking forward to the rest of the reviews :goodvibes

Sorry, I do not how to do the "quote" thing that many people do. But thank you so much for responding to my concern over Mary Poppins not being present the morning you went to 1900 Park Fare. I am so glad to hear that your wife was able to meet her at Epcot. I am thinking of calling my daughter (she lives in MA, DH and I are stationed at Fort Knox, KY) to let her know about this. But then again, I don't want to dash her hopes because I am sure this does not happen all that often. But I want to reassure her that we WILL find Mary Poppins if, for some reason, she is not able to host the breakfast the morning we are here. I love the picture of your DW, DD and Mary Poppins. Thanks so much for including that! After your review of Le Cellier, I am glad I made the decision to book Chefs de France instead when I make the trip with mom later in December. She and I will be doing Narcoossee's, Chefs de France and Boma. Keep the reviews coming. They are awesome and you have provided me with some much needed information already! How is the tooth now??

Heh, the Chocolate "Moose" makes me giggle. The Chocolate "Moose" and the Chocolate-on-Chocolate Whiskey Cake looks yummy! I love Canada and everything Canadian, so I may see if we can go and eat there, just so I can say I've "been to Canada" even though I can't actually go to Canada! Epcot is my hero, it has a little piece of Canada. :rotfl:

I am enjoying your dining reviews and pictures.:thumbsup2 You ate at a lot of places that I would like to try. Oh, and my DH and I are going to be pin trading for the first time on our trip. Any tips? I am looking forward to reading more!:)

excellent reviews and photos - really enjoying them!

your family obviously had a great time in disney!

Love your pics. It is amazing that service is everything. The best meal can be ruined by poor service.

TUTTO ITALIA, Dinner, 09-19-08

Our reservation time for dinner this evening was 8:30pm. We checked in a few minutes early. Our wait time to be called was 15 to 20 minutes. This restaurant was booked to capacity, walk-ups were being turned away, so we understood and didn't mind the wait at all. The waiting area was very full.

Our wait was not without some drama or entertainment from our surroundings. A woman was very upset with her husband was yelling at him, calling him names, and then proceeded to ram him with a stroller. This caused the packages to all tumble from the stroller, she also managed to bump someone else in the process and a drink hit the ground making a nice wet sticky mess right in the doorway! Well, as much as I dislike seeing unmagical moments, or finding other peoples misery fun.. this definitely helped to pass our wait time along a bit quicker. It also, got the attention of management, who quickly squelched the situation and cleaned up the mess. Wish I could have waved my wand and turned the evening into a magical one for them, but what can you do!

We had absolutely no idea what to expect here, but as you continue on, you will see....... We were not disappointed in the least!!

We felt very welcome here, it seemed we had actually stepped into Italy!

Our server came and introduced us to another CM who was earning his ears as a server, the new guy was very nice as well, but didn't understand how the dining plan worked so he really didn't do as much for as he was hoping. Long story, short.... between the 2 of them, we were not left waiting for anything!

Roberto... our server knew exactly how to treat his customers. He used Italian terms and had fun helping us pronounce the menu items. He called JoJo..."Bella" and I think she was instantly romanticized by him and ready to get married. I had to tell her, he could not come home with us!:rotfl:

DSC05882.jpg

The Bread

Served with olive oil and a dish with assorted olives. I added pepper to the oil for dipping. The olives were delicious!

DSC05871.jpg

Appetizer

DW
Affettati Misti - artisanal Italian Salami, prosciutto and capicollo ham with mustard fruit relish $16
Mary is a fan of salami in general, so this dish was right up her alley. The portion was very large and easily could be shared. It was fun to try the different meats without the busy sauces and things that usually accompany them.

DSC05874.jpg

DD
Prosciutto di Parma - Ham with thin slices of seasonal melon. - $18.00
The combination of the melon and ham made this dish a very nice start to the meal. Though this was not as large of a serving as the other dishes, it was still a large portion. There are no tricks in this dish.... just ham and melon, so if you looking for dazzle, try something else, but if you like this kind of thing... go for it! We liked it.

DSC05873.jpg

DSC05875.jpg

ME
Calamari Fritti - with spicy marinara sauce $13
My first but not last calamari experience at Disney.... this one was really good, probably second on my list, and I will most likely order this next time too! Very well seasoned and I love the way they served the lemon here, I had half with lemon and half without...couldn't decide which was better. This dish was a huge portion, I was able to finish all but a few pieces, which I shared with the ladies.

DSC05872.jpg

Entrees

DD & ME
Bucatini Gratinati with Italian prosciutto ham, peas and parmesan cream $24
Every single bite of this was rich creamy goodness! I would love to say give me a bigger dish, but the richness of this made the amount you get perfect! We almost licked the dishes clean!! I forgot to get a picture after we dug our forks into this, but the top layer is all cheese and underneath is the pasta which is just swimming in rich, delicious parmesan cream with yummy tender peas in it.

DSC05877.jpg

DSC05876.jpg

DW
Tagliolini con Granchio, Pomodorini Alle Erbe - tagliolini pasta topped with crabmeat, sweet tomato and garlic $27
This dish was very good! Lots of flavor, but not too rich. The portion size is large. The tomatoes were a great highlight to the flavor. There was enough crabmeat to enjoy it throughout the whole entree.

DSC05878.jpg

Desserts

DD
Mocha Tiramisu - mascarpone cheese, espresso coffee, savoiardi biscuits and chocolate $9.00
JoJo likes coffee but does not normally like the really strong coffee flavors.... she loved this! It didn't take long for it to be totally consumed... though I did manage to get a taste in! A great balance of flavors and a bearable richness!

DSC05880.jpg

DW
Profiterolles - 3 pastries with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce to pour over. $10.00
I thought that this was just too ordinary for me to order, but when it arrived, I have to say I was drooling... oh the warm chocolate ... mmmmmmmm!! Our server set this down and poured a small amount of chocolate then encouraged Mary to put lots more on as she was ready to.

DSC05881.jpg

ME
Copetta Sotto Bosco - berries, zabaglione cream gelato and chocolate sauce $14.00
This was yummy, I ate everything but a couple of the berries at the bottom... they were so cold that they were causing sensitivity to my teeth. I probably wouldn't order this again just because there are so many other things to choose from and I want to try them all, also as good as this was.... $14.00 is close to being the most expensive dessert of the trip!

DSC05879.jpg

Beverages
DD Iced Tea $3.00
DW Coke $3.00
ME Iced Tea $3.00
Just normal drink fare here, that was all that was allowed on the dining plan.

Beverage $ 9.00
Food $ 158.00
Tax $ 10.86
Total $ 177.86

Service
Very wonderful. Server was as friendly as could possibly be, he knew exactly how to treat customers and tended to our every need. As we looked around this seemed to be the way with all the service. The manager was also very active around the restaurant making sure things were happening the way they should.

Atmosphere
One of my overall favorite for atmosphere... not overly fancy, but very nice. Even with a full house, the noise level seemed to stay very low. The whole staff was very nice and we felt very much like they were trying without trying to make this a fun and authentic Italian experience. The waiting area was large enough that we felt comfortable and there was plenty of seating.

Food
Every single bite was tasty! All food was served at good temperatures. Large portions. Rich flavors.

Overall
Our #1 favorite meal for a 1 table service location. The prices here are on the high side, so on the dining plan... great, but if paying out of pocket... be warned! On the other hand if price is not an issue, than I would definitely suggest this restaurant. Great Food, Wonderful Service, and Comfortable Atmosphere.:worship:

Tutto is one of our favorite restaurants as well:thumbsup2 As a matter of fact we are eating there before we do the CP on Dec. 22:santa:

I love the calamari at Tutto. Where was your number 1 favorite calamari at WDW? We'll have to check it out.

Was the crab meat on the pasta canned crab meat or fresh?

Thanks again for the wonderful photos and review.
