We will be getting an 8 week old Miniature Goldendoodle weighing approx 25-30 max in June. I have had 2 dogs before this one and fed them both Purina or Pedigree. They both lived long lives and our golden retriever who passed away 4 weeks ago lived almost 15 years.

I am not posting this to be flamed for what we all choose to feed our dogs b/c I know there are millions of dog owners out there. I would like to know what would be budget friendly and yet good quality in the $20-30 range.

We feed Costco food, they also have a grain free and now an organic variety that is budget friendly. I find their food to be extremely high quality.

I would not feed my pets either of the foods you mention.

Check out:

dogfoodadvisor.com as well.

We use Wellness. If you subscribe to their email list, they send you 2 coupons every month. One is for $3 off dry food, the other is $1 off wet food. Around Christmas, Petco has a fantastic sale, so we stock up as much as we can use before the expiration date.

Iams Healthy Naturals Chicken and Barley is new-ish. It seems to be well reviewed and is reasonably priced, too.

Another Costco (Kirkland) user here. We buy the grain free beef & sweet potato (yellow bag). It is rated as high as Blue Baffalo

I used to feed ours pedigree, until I figured out they did not tolerate the corn. I had to switch to expensive food to stop all there poor itching. If your dog has no problem with the corn then I don't see anything wrong with the pedigree. You can always go to the dog store and see what is good in the price you want to spend. I feed mine Natural Balance.

My dog has been on several different brands. Beneful natural, Iams...We have now settled on Nutrish by Rachel Ray. I'm not sure how much it would come out for your dog each month. I subscribed and saved through Amazon. So the monthly cost is below $20, but I also have a short medium (30#) dog who only receives 1 1/2 cup of dry kibble each day.

As long as you stay away from Ol Roy and the other super grainy foods, I think you'll be happy. Unless Ol Roy has changed their formula--it made my other dog sooo sick.

My dog supplements his meals with hand outs from the preschooler. Green beans, banana, cheese and peanut butter.

We feed our Bichon, Turbo, Nutro Natural Choice. He loves it. A bit pricey but well worth it. Because his body is able to easily absorb the nutrients, his poop has hardly any smell. Yeah!
We feed our cat the Costco food. Good quality there and he has lost weight due to the fact that it is not filled with fatty fillers.

We use Science Diet Salmon. My poor puppy was adopted and are food that was making him sick for months. He eats way leSs and looks and feels so much healthier!

We use Iams Healthy Naturals Chicken+Barley. Dog gets around 1 to 1.5 cups a day (20lb Jack Russell/Cairn Terrier mix). $17 a bag at Target for 12.5 pound bag.

Petsmart just put out there own brand Simply Nourish. It is grain free and reasonably priced. I feed it to my cats. My dogs get Evo because one is epileptic and needs a high fat low carb food.

There was a time nothing would pass the lips of our dogs except Iams/Eukanuba ( some people will say that's not great either but if it ain't broke don't fix it)

Our oldest Pointer turned 14 last Sept :goodvibes One financial thing after another so the last 2 years all 7 are eating Pedigree 40 # bag for about $20 at Wal-Mart so feeding this crew is costing about $40 month maybe a little more

I see no difference in health/physical appearances etc

If I only had one dog I would go with better quality food honestly but hey you have to do what you have to do Sorry for the recent loss of your other buddy :(

Kirkland - and it's hysterical, because I have this giant bag of dog food for a 20 pound dog.

We feed Diamond brand. We have to get it at either Tractor Supply or Menards, so it's not available everywhere. It's around $30 a bag or so.

Our ACD gets about 1.5 cups a day and the shepherd gets 5 cups a day. The 40lb bag lasts about 3 weeks for both.

My three dogs are PICKY. I've never seen anything like it. The only food they like is Rachel Ray's Nutrish, but only the chicken kind, lol. They're ridiculous.

We have a small dog (9lbs) and feed Blue Buffalo Small Breed Adult. We went from a gain based food to this when she was 4 months old and it has made a HUGE difference in her coat and skin.

We feed our dogs Acana and it is worth every penny. To me is not only about the quality of food, but the quality of the ingredients so we don't even consider foods that have ingredients from china.

There is a huge difference in their coats. Every time we are at the vet or out with them people stop to comment how beautiful their coats are. Most people don't realize the difference, until there is a side to side comparison this happen to us last time we were at the vet. The other dog owner even asked our secret. My sister's dog was a foster with us before she adopted him and let me tell you there was a huge change in his coat. She feeds him Acana too and I am not lying the dog sparkles, he has a white and brown coat. I wish I had pictures of the difference in his coat. Often people stop and asked how do we make his coat do that :lmao:.

Our dog has a sensitive tummy, so we buy Diamond brand (no gluten, corn, wheat). We purchase ours at our local Feed store - the 30-pound bag is typically $25.

My 16 year-old lab that recently passed away was fed Eukanuba Large Breed food most of her life. I did switch her to Kirkland for a year or two but during that year she had 4-5 bouts of terrible diarrhea....you the kind where you just want to burn your house down, lol. I didn't think it was the food causing it but I switched her back to the Eukanuba and it never happened again.

We do have another 18 month old lab who I am feeding the Eukanuba Large Breed food and I'm thinking of switching her to something else because I think her poop is way to large for her size (60lbs). Seriously, I don't know how it all fits in her. Maybe this just isn't the food for her so I'm curious to see what other dogs here are eating also. I was considering Royal Canin.

Thank you so much for all the recommendations. Costco brand had great reviews and I will be looking into the others also. I will let you know what I decide and if I can figure out how to post a pic when we get her I will.
