Does your local grocery store offer a free turkey for spending a certain amount?

Shoprite does them but I don't really shop there.

I wish Wegmans did this.

The Giant Food Stores in my area offer the free fozen turkey, a free Stouffer's frozen lasagna or $10 off of a shopping purchase. If a customer does not want to use their coupon they have the option to donate their free turkey to the local food bank.

Shaw's is doing that. Earn 20 points, get a free turkey. 20 points = $500 The promotion runs over the course of 6 weeks. I've already gotten 15 points, so I think I can handle spending another 125 over the next 2 weeks.

Luckily, I'm about to run out of all the expensive essentials at once (t.p/laundry detergent/dishwasher detergent/shampoo/razors) so my next trip will prolly be 150 it self.

The one I go to doesn't, but does have coupons for $5 off for $50 spent or 10 off for 100. The free turkey isn't important to me because we get a fresh one from DH's parents. Last years weighed 42lb, which is average size for FIL's turkeys. It's like seeing Jabba the Hutt in all his roasted glory

They have that here, and we usually get two. I deep fry them both, then DW and I give the second one to the Kids to take haome, after Thanksgiving Dinner, so they get turkey "leftovers" and DIL dosn't have to cook!!(with three little one running around!)

Nope, Wegmans doesn't do that promotion, but I think that some other (smaller) stores around here might. Too bad I am so loyal to Wegmans....

We used to, but not anymore. Safeway is the only regular grocer left in my area. Whole Foods and a couple other high end gourmet stores have replaced them. The lack of competition means deals are rare.

My local supermarket offers a free turkey, ham or 96 oz. pkg. of lasagna when the customer spends $300 within a certain number of weeks. I have qualified every year for the last few years.

We have a grocery store that does this, but it isn't as simple as just spending a certain total amount. You have to spend at least $45 (on a single order) in 6 of the 8 weeks before Thanksgiving. Six weekly tickets gets you the turkey. They do it at Easter, too.

Central MA here and Shaws shopper as well. I was ticked off last year when they had this because their price per pound was almost double the SALE prices at the competitors stores (so not really a deal IMO) - Price Chopper, Big Y, Stop & Shop. A perk is it is good for $20 off your order and it doesn't HAVE to be a Turkey. Unless Shaws matches the pricing of other stores per pound (or is at least close), I am planning on using the discount towards the "extras" that are reasonably priced - pie ingredients, stuffing, vegetables, etc. and getting my Turkey from another store that has a good sale per pound.

ours does it every year- spend 75.00 in a shopping trip and get a free 10-12 pound turkey and spend 100+ and get a 12-18 pound ( I think those are the weights but I could be off by a pound or two). If they run it for 3 weeks I end up with at least 3 free turkeys and we only use one so we give the extras to the places that make baskets for needy people for thanksgiving. What the heck would I do with 3 turkeys?? I keep one and we cook it in Dec since we always go out to eat on the holidays. The stores do the same thing for christmas so I get more turkeys or ham then!!

Shaws & Price Chopper are the only grocery stores close to me and considering the amount of flies I've seen in the meat case at that Price Chopper - I won't buy there. Plus, the turkey buying is the only thing I'm in charge of this year for Thanksgiving luckily. Although, I'll prolly make a dessert too since they generally love the different things I make.

But, I think they should price match. I know they do on other items.

Our local grocery (Homeland) usually does the spend 50 get a ham/turkey for pennies a pound. I think it's like 49 cents. This year we don't have to buy one cause my brother and new gf are using thier house as the central holiday area and her mother is cooking the turkey and my brother will bring his office "free" ham (I think it's funny that the company buys everyone a ham for a holiday bonus including the VP, my brother) home to get smoked. We'll probably do a small turkey breast just for sandwiches though.

I have reached the $300.00 spending amount needed to get a turkey up to 22 lbs or a ham. My cousin lives in Rhode Island and told me that their grocery stores do not do this... so does yours?
