I have reached the $300.00 spending amount needed to get a turkey up to 22 lbs or a ham. My cousin lives in Rhode Island and told me that their grocery stores do not do this... so does yours?

I live in Maryland and we have to spend $250 in order to get a free turkey. That's how I always get my turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

yes, but....

thats the spendy grocery store and I tend not to shop thre but for specialty items...

there's a reason they can afford to give away a free turkey...

all of our grocery stores here do that, Philly suburbs!

I have never heard of that. Sounds wonderful, and I only wish we had that here.

Shoprite only for the past couple of years. Spend $300 for a free turkey or ham.

The A&P went cheap on us. :(

Winn Dixie used to do that around here, not sure if they still do. Walmart needs to. As money as I spend there, I'd get 2 free turkeys!:lmao:

In Wisconsin the stores have all had some kind of promotion. It has either been something like spend so much and get a reduced price or free turkey or member card programs where you purchase certain items and enough dollar amount and you get a card for a free turkey. Around here when Thanksgiving comes turkey prices is always the most competitive and stores will sometimes even sell them at a loss to get people in for other things.

I'm in Rhode Island and can tell you that Shaw's (New England) almost always offers this deal. I am not sure if they're doing it again this year, but odds are good. I've been shopping at Whole Foods and Stop & Shop since our (Cumberland, RI) S&S has a decent natural foods section and recently got Shopping Buddy!!!! The Shaw's I go to is across the State line in Attleboro, MA so I don't get there as often, but when I still lived in Warwick I did shop there and always got a free turkey.:confused3

They also do shrimp for 4th of July and something for Easter and Christmas.

Yes, my grocery store does.

You shop 6 of the 8 selected weeks and spend at least $45 and they give you a $20 store gift card to spend however you want. They do this promotion at all the major holidays.

Nothing is free...

But I guess my local food store is the best place to get a free turkey. As apposed to the gas station.

We not do want you eating a gased up turkey... :lmao: :lmao:

I live in Rhode Island and my grocery store (Shaws) has a similar promotion. Every time you buy groceries you earn points and when you get a certain amount of points you get a free ham or turkey.

Our grocery stores used to give free turkeys. But now they have a store branded MasterCard, raised their prices and now you have to buy groceries with their MasterCard to get "perks."

I'm so tired of every little store having their own major credit card. How many of these stupid plastic things do they think people need? The gas companies all have them, the department stores, the grocery stores and the Walmarts all have their own MC, VISA or AMEX. And they wonder why people get overextended on their credit cards :sad2:

Not any more. Giant Eagle did away with this promotion about 5 years ago.:guilty:

Actually the one that does it here is the cheapest (Shop Rite) neither Stop & Shop, Wegman's or Whole Foods offer this.

our stores use to do it, but they did away with it years ago. Now they offer a special price per pound, but its just not the same as free!

They've done it in previous years in Buffalo, but I haven't noticed anything for this year
