I'm checking in at WDW on Wed. I know it'll be busy due to marathon weekend.
I called to add the dining plan. I wanted the basic for the 1st night and then deluxe for the next 3 nights.
Phone rep said he couldn't do it because he would have to split the reservation and there was no availability at the resort.
I know the res. would have to be split, but I thought I read here that they could do it without having to cancel and rebook nights. Did I understand it wrong or should I call back and speak to someone else?

No, you can't split between different dining plans on one reservation unless you are on a DVC reservation. Even then, you would have to "segment" and link the reservation to get different dining plans. And you cannot do that if there is no room availabilty for one or more of your "segments."

Nala,

Sorry. Forgot to state that I am staying DVC. So can they segment and link the reservations without cancelling anything? Or do they have to cancel and rebook?

Only if there is availability for the segments you want. They are telling you there is no availability, so you cannot rebook your reservation as segments. This late in the game it is not surprising. Yes, they would have to cancel your current reservation, at least in part, and rebook in "segments." They can't just split the existing reservation.

You can call back and ask someone else, as the DVC system appears to be in constant flux over this.

I'm assuming you also realize you will now need to pay for the dining plan as soon as you add it, not at check-in.

Thanks Nala.

Yes, I knew I'd have to pay for it when I booked and I also knew it was kinda late to be adding. Guess I'll just pay OOP and use my TIW card.

Thanks for the info!

Terri
