Does nudity=porn? I was called a pervert!

Wow, that was a major over-reaction on the man's part. I may have been curious about the photos (imagining here that whatever the kid told his parents about them was pretty interesting). But I cannot imagine being angry without knowing what they were, or threatening to call the cops. I probably would have laughed when I finally saw them firsthand.

Funny story re: kids and nude art... My 6yo is one of those boys that always loved to run around nude, and so apart from his "naked time" we had to always remind him to put clothes on, etc that it was inappropriate to be nude in public. When we were at an art museum in Italy last summer, he very loudly proclaimed "man they sure are very inappropriate here in Italy." LOL.

I just looked up Allen Teger. Interesting work. I personally wouldn't have it hanging in my house and I think the crane photo is a bit much but I surely wouldn't call it porn.

No, it's clearly not porn when it's.....you know.......flaccid! :lmao: :lmao:

I had never heard of his art before, I loved the crane one. The neighbour is an idiot. They are not porn nor are they dangerous no wonder people are so hung up about the human body if they are brought up to believe its something nasty and dirty instead of beautiful.

What you have in your bathroom is ART!!

Porn is what my DH keeps in the bathroom! But he just buys those magazines for the articles. ;)

Have to agree and I think the best place for it would be in your bedroom. Although it doesn't bother me I can see where some people would be bothered by it.

The child must have been seeing naked pictures to figure out at 4 that some of those photos are of naked bodies and pubic hair. It took me a couple of time looking at the cruise ship to figure it out. Porn is what you find in an adult book store art is art there is a big difference. IMHO these people are being hypersensitive.

They are not pornographic in any way, shape, or form. This guy was completely out of line and owes you an apolgy.

I think they would be appropriate hanging wherever you wanted in your own home.

What he said.

I would call favor-asking wife and tell her the next time her DH verbally abused me about art hanging in my own home I would call the police on his sorry judgmental butt. Since he likes throwing that threat around, maybe he'll enjoy being on the other end of it.

And oh yea, tell her she's welcome & to call another neighbor next time.

I also have to echo a few fellow posters who said

How would a 4 year old really know what he was looking at, even at the most obvious ones. I didn't know what the certain slang words for female body parts (upper body) were until I was certainly older than 4!

The neighbor was way out of line and you should have called the cops on him for harrassment after you helped them in an emergency situation.

I also don't feel these pictures are porno. I also agree a child that age usually wouldn't understand what they are looking at.

Here's what I think. If you were being hired to provide child care and had these pictures in public areas in your home, I would not like it. You were not. You were asked to fill in for an emergency and did so willingly. These parents don't have any right to complain about what is hanging on your walls. Let them call the police. I am sure they could use a chuckle today. :rolleyes1

I love the skiing ones lololol

If they say something againtell them next time to ask another neighbor.

Your not a perv at all :thumbsup2

OK, my opinions here. It’s art. Not classy art. Not my taste. But art and not porn. It’s nudity with “private parts”, but not sexual. I wouldn’t really want my kids seeing it, but if they came across it, so be it. It’s your home. It’s your taste. All the power to you!

Your neighbor was way, way out of line. When my kids have had to go to the ER, the siblings come too. I don’t know most my neighbors well enough, or know them too well, for me to be comfortable dropping them off like that, except maybe two. These people made a choice to leave a child with you. You were not showing their child Playboy or Penthouse. The kid saw art. I’d have offered to call the police for him. He owes you a HUGE apology.

He came and displayed his art at an art's festival here - there were tons of families around and I don't remember anyone screaming about porn. Now, I must admit, there may have been "warnings" posted outside the booth with the non-nudity ones hanging outside the booth but I can't recall. He certainly was not the only artist there with nudity displayed within their art.

Maybe people just know to expect that as a risk of bringing their children to art festivals?

OP - sorry you got jumped on. To me, his art is clever but certainly not porn. A boy that age could easily find the nudity in the crane picture but other pictures of his aren't as obvious.

Admittedly, if I was watching children, I would remove them from my walls during their visit but under the circumstances I understand why it never crossed your mind (esp since other parents have never had a problem with them).

I wonder if you could encounter the OP's experience let alone the often strangled responses of this thread in any other country than the US?
In most places the vast majority of this artist's work could be published in daily newspapers without raising people's eyebrows.

I agree completely with this! I've seen art in the museum that was more graphic than these photos. What a *******. I would definitely call the wife and tell her what for.

You should write the artist with the story, and give send the neighboor's name and address,.

perhaps the artist could contact him and explain what art is?
