Does nudity=porn? I was called a pervert!

Here is an interesting point to consider...

Are those pictures appropriate to post here, a family-friendly website?

If so, why has no one done so?

Would that post go "poof"?

That's a pretty good indication of whether or not the neighbor had a legitimate complaint or not.

(I haven't seen them, but I think the above is a good "test")

Who's gonna risk getting points by posting the pic here? Any of the posters here that think it's "art" willing to take the chance? If not, then it's probably beyond "art" then, is it?

I don’t believe you can use the DIS as an indicator of what is appropriate for a family friendly board. Heck, the words ****** and ***** can’t be posted here (Correct terms for human genitalia)
Can someone please tell me why those words are inappropriate for a family friendly board?
Every family I know contains them. (Kinda hard to develop a family without them:rolleyes1 )

The pictures can't be posted here because some will be offended and run to mods in tears.

you can say breast here but you can say b*** (slang term for breast) this site has no rhyme or reason why for some stuff it seems

Yes the home owner rightfully so gets to decide what is considered ART in their home.
I think the point that everyone is missing is...

Shouldn't the the parent(prude or not) get to decide what their child is exposed to?

Now this thing blew up, IMO the parents should relax and take the info gathered during this incident into consideration when making future babysitting arrangements.

My dad had my portrait painted when I was 5 yo. He also purchased another painting by the artist that was a belly dancer wearing only the skirt of the costume. I have been looking at that painting for the past 45 years. My sister's 3 girls have been seen the painting since they were babies. I guess my whole family are pornographers.

Kim

Okay, I'll take a stab at this one. The majority of the posters here seem to think that all nudity is equal and that anyone who thinks some of the pieces that artist did are leaning towards pornography are saying that all nudity is pornography.

IMO, in some art the people are nude, but that isn't the focus of the piece. They just happen to be naked. For me, what makes something cross the line is when the art is focused specifically on picturing genitalia. For me, some of the pieces crossed the line. Many of them didn't.

My opinion, my line, for others it may be different. I haven't seen anyone here say all nudity is pornographic. Heck, I haven't even seen anyone here say pornography was bad, just that's it not appropriate for kids.

Because I know someone will read this and assume I'm slamming the OP, the neighbor was absolutely wrong to try to sensor the OP in her own home and for the rude way he treated her. There's no excuse for his behavior. IMO he has a right to his opinion, but no right to his behavior.

Hopefully the man has learned simply not to send his kids to OP's house if he is offended by her artwork.

I looked at the artist's website to see what the fuss is about.

Some images show enough that they would not be allowed on broadcast TV, in regular magazines, on billboards, etc. Paintings and sculptures get a little more leeway but actual photographs are different. For people who consider playboy a form of pornography, I can understand how this would be viewed as porn as well and why those people would be upset to know their children saw it. It doesn't offend ME, but I can appreciate that not everyone feels that way. Obviously it left enough of an impression on the child that he commented on it. That is probably not what the parent wanted to deal with after their other child spend part of the day in the ER.

Getting the police involved is ridiculous. But I feel some degree of sympathy for the parent. Hopefully it will teach them to be more careful about where they leave their children in the future. Apparently, they didn't know the OP well at all. Next time they leave their kids with someone they don't know well, some actual harm could be done.

I never heard of this artist before so I had to check out the website. Some of the pics are really funny! I remember when I was a teen we had a slumber party at a friends house and thought the wallpaper in the bathroom was interesting. It was cream colored with black silhouetes on it. They were couples in various poses. Lets say we all learned ALOT that night just from looking at the wallpaper! It was way more pornagraphic then the pics I just looked at.
The neighbor need to get over it. Not his house, you didn't ask to watch his child, you did them a huge favor!!
He will get over it.

You seem to be missing one important point. The mother brought the child over due to an EMERGENCY. Not an "Oh, we want to go to the movies will you watch little junior?", no her DD needed to be looked at. Of course the parents get to decide, under normal circumstances, but what you do? Your DD is bleeding and needs stiches. You can't take care of that and your 4 year old. You ask a neighbor to watch the child. Would you go through the neighbors house inspecting every room to be sure little junior would not be exposed to some horror?

yea let him call the cops. does the kid never see his parents or siblings naked?

I'm torn. I don't like to think I'm prudish but I did google them and some were a little much and I wouldn't like my child to see them.

Now I was ok with the fishing one. I'm not offended by them but I didn't care for the golfing or the lawnmower/gardening ones and I don't think I'd want to deal with the questions those photos would bring.

ETA: I don't think it is porn at all.

ITA.
I could do without them easily, but porn? No.
Harvesting pubic hair is an odd photo, thats for sure.
Wonder if any farmers have that one? ;)

it's not about getting points. I truly don't care. Anyone can find them just like we did originally. It's called Goggle. Obviously, the DIS has said no. Their decision, not mine. But just because they block them doesn't make them porn.
Even if they were-it was HER HOUSE, SHE did a FAVOR. No one took the child to a room and pointed the pics out to him. Please don't make this out to be anything other than an overreaction from an, at best, overtired and emotional parent.

I was thinking... maybe the kid went home and said something like "Mrs. Jones showed me a man climbing up her chest in the bathroom." Ok. THAT would make me come knocking on the door! :lmao: You never know what the kid actually said.

#well i clicked on some images like the tathiti (sp) topless woman, a naked body laying on the ground in the woods, a woman standing and her bare breast showing. I think those would be kinda shocking to a 4year old. I think my dd(9) would be uncomfortable but thats me as a mother

even though you did a good deed and your picture that you decorated your home with are art in your eyes others might view it as nasty naked pictures

now a days there so many weirdos out there that the father sounded like a concern parent. He didnt call the cops right so maybe he was upset then felt embarrased when he saw the framed art.

Just voicing my opinion not putting anyone down. Just think kids see breast or a butt on tv and they oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there reaction is like o is a bad thing.

Nexttime just be careful with kids and those pictures especially if there parent arent familar with your place and decorations.

anything with a butt would get a "EEEEWWW a stinky butt picture" out of my kids and breasts would be "I see her ****ies, I see her ****ies" from my kids.. and that would be the end of it

Pornography - is obscene writing or pictures with no artistic value. Porn means writing about Harlots ( Greek in origin)

I think the father overreacted. As a parent I would have called you if my child said you were showing them naked pictures but once you showed me what actually happened (in this case) I probably would have laughed. While it may not be the choice of art for me, I wouldn't have made a federal case out of it. In fact when we were kids one of my friend's Dad had a charcoal on the wall of their mother nude. It was in their bedrom but we had to go in there sometimes to use the bathroom. I didn't think too much of it then but did giggle to my parents about it.

The father had a right to not like your art. He had no right to be rude. He certainly has no basis to call the police. I am pretty impressed that his 4 year old picked up on the fact that those pictures involved naked bodies, since, for a few of them, I had to look really closely...that's one observant kid!

You were a lot nicer than I would have been because had someone I had just done a favor for come ranting up to my house screaming about porn and calling the cops, I'd have laughed in his face and shut the door.

I have no tolerance for stupidity.

Whether you like the pictures or not is up to taste, but I'm still finding it amusing that people think their kids wouldn't recognize peoples genitals! One look at that crane picture and my boys would definitely have taken a closer look at all the other pictures!:scared1:

This thread is cracking me up and scaring me at the same time. Evidently I'm the only perverted one here, because there was no doubt in my mind what body parts were there. Then again, maybe I'm the only one who went and looked at ALL the pictures on that website.;) Can you tell I'm bored today?

I loved the "dreamscapes" and some of his other photos.

I just looked up Allen Teger. Interesting work. I personally wouldn't have it hanging in my house and I think the crane photo is a bit much but I surely wouldn't call it porn.

Okay I had to go look at them. The crane one was not what I was expecting... I thought they were funny! I dont know if I have them hanging in my house, I'd laugh everytime I saw them!

I forget who said, "I know it when I see it" about when nudity becomes porn. I think it was a Supreme Court Justice. Have to see it to know. :)

The last time I had to run over and sit for someone who had to take one kid to the hospital, some kid broke into my car and stole stuff. I thought that was the worst, "No good deed goes unpunished" story re: babysitting for moms running off to the ER.

You win. :)
