I also find a lot of solace in this song:

C'mon N Ride It (The Train)

Woo woo...
1-Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train, woo woo, hey
Ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train
Woo woo, hey, ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train
It's the choo choo, ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train, it's the choo choo train
Come on, ride the train, it's the choo choo
Ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train, it's the choo choo train
2-Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
I think I can, I think I can
I think I can, I think I can
Way deep down south, well we play this game
It's them Quad City D.J.'s and you,
We call it "the train"
So if you wanna ride your thing
Just come on down the train
We gonna rock, ooh, Lord, just jump aboard, baby
So get your next of kin, your sister and your friend
Pack it up now, choo choo, ride on this, choo choo
And, boo, you need to stop faking, and come on with me
I wanna take you home with me, to be alone with me
And I can see you wanna hide it, come on, just divide it
And please don't knock it, until you ride it
So to all of you girls, you know, I'm calling your name
Michelle, Tamika and Tanya
Wanna ride this train, ride out now
(repeat 1)
3-If you feel like dancing, well come on, it's up to you
We got the sound to keep you getting down, down
The train is coming through
(repeat 2, 2)
I can smell them tranquil breezes from a mile away
Graduated from Boone up to Alize
Baby, you looking tough to death
Got your weave done right, it's on so tight
Now it's on tonight, yeah, yeah
Right about now it's about that time for me to holler
Girl, I wanna waller in the back of my impala
Woo, don't need no tickets for this thing
Just jump on in, let me hit them switches on the train
And it ain't no thing, it's all the same
Get on the train tracks
Here we go, so get on the floor
And put a hump in your back
So pack your bags, come on, get ready, say what?
We're coming through your town
Move your arm up and down
And make that choo choo sound, like this
Ride that choo choo, woo woo...
Come on it's the choo choo, woo woo
Come on it's the choo choo train

Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour)
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Billy Joel -- And So it Goes

in every heart there is a room
a sanctuary safe and strong
to heal the wounds from lovers past
until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
you answered me with no pretense
and still I feel I said too much
my silence is my self defense

and every time I've held a rose
it seems I only felt the thorns
and so it goes, and so it goes
and so will you soon I suppose

but if my silence made you leave
then that would be my worst mistake
so I will share this room with you
and you can have this heart to break

and this is why my eyes are closed
it's just as well for all I've seen
and so it goes, and so it goes
and you're the only one who knows

so I would choose to be with you
that's if the choice were mine to make
but you can make decisions too
and you can have this heart to break

and so it goes, and so it goes
and you're the only one who knows

Ol' man river.
That ol' man river.
He don't say nothin'
But he must know somethin'
Cause he just keeps rollin'
He keeps rollin' along.
Rollin' along.
He don't plant tators
He don't plant cotton.
Them that plants 'em is soon forgotten.
But ol' man river
He keeps rollin' along.
You and me
We sweat and strain.
Body all achin'
And wracked with pain.
Tote that barge.
Lift that bale.
Get a little drunk
And you land in jail.
I gets weary
Sick of tryin'
I'm tired of livin'
Feared of dyin'
But ol' man river
He's rollin' along.

Not more than three short years ago
I was abandoned and alone
Without a penny to my name
So very young and so afraid
No proper shoes upon my feet
Sometimes I couldn't even eat
I often cried myself to sleep
But still I had to keep on going
Never knowing if I could take it
If I would make it through the night
I held on to my faith
I struggled and I prayed
And now I've found my way

If you believe in yourself enough
And know what you want
You're gonna make it happen
Make it happen
And if you get down on your knees at night
And pray to the Lord
He's gonna make it happen
Make it happen

I know life can be so tough
And you feel like giving up
But you must be strong
Baby just hold on
You'll never find the answers
If you throw your life away
I used to feel the way you do
Still I had to keep on going
Never knowing if I could take it
If I would make it through the night
I held on to my faith
I struggled and I prayed
And now I've finally found my way

I once was lost
But now I'm found
I got my feet
On solid ground
Thank you Lord
If you believe
Within your soul
Just hold on tight
And don't let go
You can make it
Make it happen

mariah carey - make it happen :)

This song inspires me to spend as much time as I can with my 2 sons. If I get stuck in work late I’ll start singing this song to myself, drop everything and get my *** home. Family first!

Cat's in the Cradle
(Harry Chapin)

My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, ""I'm gonna be like you, Dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you.""

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
""When you coming home, Dad?"" ""I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then.""

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, ""Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?"" I said, ""Not today,
I got a lot to do."" He said, ""That's OK.""
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,
Said, ""I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him.""

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
""When you coming home, Dad?"" ""I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then.""

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
""Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?""
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
""What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?""

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
""When you coming home, Son?"" ""I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, Dad.
You know we'll have a good time then.""

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, ""I'd like to see you if you don't mind.""
He said, ""I'd love to, Dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you.""
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
""When you coming home, Son?"" ""I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, Dad.
You know we'll have a good time then.""

Love JT!

Let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the Earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children
Can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

(Chorus)
Shed a little light, oh Lord
So that we can see
Just a little light, oh Lord
Wanna stand it on up
Stand it on up, oh Lord
Wanna walk it on down
Shed a little light, oh Lord

Can't get no light from the dollar bill
Don't give me no light from a TV screen
When I open my eyes
I wanna drink my fill
>From the well on the hill

(Do you know what I mean?)

- Chorus -

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Oh, Let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the Earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood

The Indians

Bed of Roses

Some people can't speak their minds freely
Some people walk the streets at night alone
It's so easy to make an empty heart your home

Life it can lift you up
It can drag you down
Life don't have to be no bed of roses

Some people just can't have it easy
Some people have to fall before they can fly
It's funny how we live in the same place
On the same earth in the same time

Did you get escorted out of the "Christian Music" thread, EROS? Sorry; sometimes "Christians" can be a bit intolerant and narrow minded - NOT talking about anyone on this board, of course . . .

SPAGo, Mariah's song reminds me of cotye -- anyone heard from Kevin lately?

And here's my contribution to your singalong (a song that may not be "inspirational", but is oh-so-true):

Can't Always Get What You Want

Jagger/Richards

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
And her feet was footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you might find
You get what you need

I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singin' "We're gonna vent our frustrations
If we don't, we're gonna blow a 50 amp fuse!"

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you might find
You get what you need

I went down to the Chelsea drug store
To get your prescription filled
I was standin' in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill

We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I was standin' in line with Mr. Jimmy
And he said one word to me, and that was "Dead"

I said to him

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you might find
You get what you need

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well, I could tell by her blood-stained hand

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, you might find
You get what you need

Of course not:rolleyes:  . We both know that the DIS is full of "tolerance"............. as long as one has the "right" views and beliefs:cool:

OK, here's another one that is a bit more "inspirational" -- from the great Bob Dylan:

Forever Young

Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
And may you stay forever young
May you stay forever young

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
And may you stay forever young
May you stay forever young

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
May you stay forever young

And one more -- a great one from the Beatles:

Hey Jude

Lennon / McCartney

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Hey Jude, don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better

And any time you feel the pain, hey Jude refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
Da da da da da da da da da

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better

Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go out and get her
Remember to let her into you heart
Then you can start to make it better

So let it out and let it in, hey Jude begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you, hey Jude you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
Da da da da da da da da da

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better,
better, better, better, better, better, Oh
Da da da da da da da da da, ...hey Jude

A tolerant view might have allowed the folks on the Christian Music Thread to have their space to post what they consider to be songs of joy and praise of the Lord they believe in without a barrage of Non-Christian songs peppering them throughout the thread.

It's a big board with plenty of room to post your views without attempting to trample the views of others.

Sorry; sometimes "Christians" can be a bit intolerant and narrow minded - NOT talking about anyone on this board, of course . . .

Of course not . We both know that the DIS is full of "tolerance"............. as long as one has the "right" views and beliefs

Yeah right.

Lead by example.

Here's a classic:

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

What One Man Can Do

This song appears on two albums, and was first released on the Seasons of the Heart Album. It has also been released on The Very Best of John Denver (Double CD) album.

I suppose that there are those
Who’ll say he had it easy
Had it made in fact
Before he’d even begun
But they don’t know the things I know
I was always with him
It may sound strange
We were more than friends

It’s hard to tell the truth
When no one wants to listen
When no one really cares
What’s going on
And it’s hard to stand alone
When you need someone beside you
Your spirit and your faith
They must be strong

What one man can do is dream
What one man can do is love
What one man can do is change the world
And make it young again
Here you see what one man can do

As shaded as his eyes might be
That’s how bright his mind is
That’s how strong his love
For you and me
A friend to all the universe
Grandfather of the future
And everything I would like to be

What one man can do is dream
What one man can do is love
What one man can do is change the world
And make it young again
Here you see what one man can do

What one man can do is dream
What one man can do is love
What one man can do is change the world
And make it young again
Here you see what one man can do

I suppose that you're right. The "CHRISTIAN" thread may establish an EXCELLENT PRECEDENT.:) :)

We can then establish some other EXCLUSIONARY threads:

REPUBLICANS ONLY

YELLOW DOG DEMOCRATS ONLY

BUDDHISTS ONLY

YANKEE FANS ONLY

SUSHI LOVERS ONLY

S&M ONLY

GAY LOVERS ONLY

STRAIGHT LOVERS ONLY

Let's face it.......the POSSIBILITIES are ENDLESS:jester: :jester: :jester:

Good idea, Deb ;)

Maleficent: I always loved this song. It makes me cry and smile at the same time

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Let's not forget the Bash Everyone thread....:)

Oh wait....that's what they all are!!! :)

Are we talking about being tolerant here or about being challenged and subtly criticized and mocked for whatever beliefs we have?

I thought the topic was tolerance. :)

If a thread is marked CHRISTIAN MUSIC and you don't like CHRISTIAN MUSIC, keep right on moving along. Be tolerant. Start a NON-CHRISTIAN MUSIC thread if you want to.

It's a big board. Plenty of room for EVERYONE'S views. Plenty of room for folks to celebrate whatever it is that brings joy into their lives and share with their DIS friends in that joy.

I REJOICE that so many feel so good about that.
