Do me wrong, do me right. Tell me lies but hold me tight.
Save your good-byes for the morning light, but don't let me be lonely tonight.

Say goodbye and say hello. Sure enough good to see you, but it's time to go.
Don't say yes but please don't say no, I don't want to be lonely tonight.

Go away then, damn you, go on and do as you please,
You ain't gonna see me getting down on my knees.
I'm undecided, and your heart's been divided, you've been turning my world upside down.

Do me wrong, do me right, right now, baby. Go on and tell me lies but hold me tight.
Save your good-byes for the morning light, morning light,
but don't let me be lonely tonight.
I don't want to be lonely tonight, no, no, I don't want to be lonely tonight.

I don't want to be lonely tonight.

I agree, dandave:D . Some around here find inspiration from J.C.; I find it through J.T.:jester: :jester:

And for those on the CHRISTIAN MUSIC thread who have objected to the moderators about MY source of inspiration, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SORRY;) ;)

Lovely, Saphire :D :) :D

I got holy children to show me the light, singing hallelujah, brother how about you?
Yeah, we got holy scriptures here that prove us to be right,
in believing out loud what we wish to be true.

I got stoned out neighbors to take me in tow, singing close your eyes, singing open wide.
Watch the world fall away below, let the winter wind blow,
and where will we hide when it comes from inside?

Oh, hear me now, hear me now, hear me now, hear me now, hear me now, hear me now,
hear me now, listen I got sweet, sweet music inside.

Yes, a child inside me was alone in the night,
Now has come to me, love has set my soul free.
As a man and a woman stand alone in the night, here is reason to be like sun on the sea.

Talking bout Jumping Jim, talking bout Mud Slide Slim.
Don't you know that a fish got to swim, don't a goose got to fly high?
Little dog got to die and I'm going home.
Woh, don't you know. Woh, don't you know.

Talking bout a life on the street, gonna think about an itch in my feet.
Can't you hand me down them highway shoes?
Lord knows I'm talking 'bout the walking blues,
got the rocking pneumonia blues and I'm headed home, bye-bye.
Woh, don't you know. Woh, don't you know

Listen here now, don't you come round talking bout over yonder, listen,
bound to wake up the walking man in me and I'm bound to wandering, hey now,
talking all about spooning into bone, looking just like Sherlock Holmes.
Looking for a needle in a haystack, seeing and eating lots of fatback,
hey, talking bout a railroad track and I'm going home, bye-bye.
Woh, don't you know. Woh, don't you know.
Woh, who, don't you know. You oughta know, you oughta know, you oughta know.
You oughta know like a fish in the stream, oughta know like a leaf on the tree.
Oughta know like a boat in the sea.

One morning, one morning, one morning in May,
I spied a young couple, they were making their way.
One was a maiden so bright and so fair and the other was a soldier and a brave volunteer.

Good morning, good morning, good morning said he,
and where are you going my pretty lady?
I'm going out a-walking on the banks of the sea
just to see the water’s glide and hear the nightingale sing.

Now they had not been standing but a minute or two
when out of his knapsack a fiddle he drew
and the tune that he played made the valleys all ring,
oh hark, cried the maiden, hear the nightingale sing.

Oh maiden, fair maiden, ‘tis time to give o'er.
Oh no, kind soldier, please play one tune more
for I'd rather hear your fiddle at the touch of one string
than to see the waters glide and hear the nightingale sing.

Oh soldier, kind soldier, will you marry me? Oh no, pretty maiden, that never shall be.
I've a wife down in London and children twice three,
two wives and the army's too many for me.

Well, I'll go back to London and I'll stay there for a year,
it's often that I'll think of you, my little dear.
And if ever I return it will be in the spring
just to see the waters glide and hear the nightingale sing.
To see the waters glide and hear the nightingale sing.

Someone- I'm searching for someone who'll be true, who'll change my life of blue
into a dream of golden rainbows, where are you?

It seems I've been searching, searching more than just one lifetime.
My heart is a magnet all for you, I'll know you when I see you.
Within my heart is carved a sculpture of your love.

Life is worth less than nothing without love. Love is the force from which all beings live.
Don't you see? It's the purpose of living to love and be loved again and again.
Where are you? My heart cries for you. My eyes long to see you. My soul is all for you.
Oh, where are you, someone?

Don't you see? It's the purpose of living to love and be loved again and again.
Where are you? My heart cries for you. My eyes long to see you. My soul is all for you.
Oh, where are you, someone?

Lean On Me by Bill Withers

Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise, we know that there's always tomorrow.
Lean on me, when you're not strong and I'll be your friend.
I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna need somebodyto lean on.
Please swallow your pride, if have things you need to borrow.
For no one can fill those needs that you won't let show.
You just call on me brother when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
Lean on me when you't not strong, and I'll be your friend.
I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long 'til I'm gonna' need
somebody to lean on.
You just call on me brother if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry.
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me.
Call me (if you need a friend)
Call me

My all time favorite, but not sure if anyone has heard it. The lyrics are wonderful and the music is......well, it makes me weep..so much so that I have a very hard time playing it on the piano.

This song is right up there with Amazing Grace and the Hallejulia Chorus as far as I'm concerned.
:)

I'll Walk With God

I’ll Walk With God,
from this day on,
His helping hand,
I’ll lean upon;
This is my prayer, my humble plea,
May the Lord be ever with me.

There is no death,
tho’ eyes grow dim,
There is no fear when I’m near to Him.
I’ll lean on Him forever
And He’ll forsake me never.

He will not fail me as long,
as my faith is strong,
Whatever road I may walk along;
I’ll Walk With God, I’ll take His hand,
I’ll talk with God, He’ll understand;
I’ll pray to Him, each day to Him,
And he’ll hear the words that I say.

His hand will guide my throne and rod,
And I’ll never walk alone while I walk,
with God!

From The Student Prince

Ave Maria always makes me cry, especially now stince it was plaed and Mom's funeral Mass. I clouded up prety goot last week on the GMR. One ove the pieces they showed while you waited was the end of Fantasia. By the 4th time I had all I could do to keep control.

I love JT:D
It's too bad Eros you couldn't post the last verse of SteamRoller Blues;) But it's a family board:D

my favorite inspirational song?
The Parting Glass

Of all the money ere I had, I spent it in good company,
And all the harm I've ever done, alas was done to none but me
and all I've done for want of wit, to memory now I can't recall
so fill me to the parting glass, goodnight and joy be with you all.

Of all the comrades ere I had, they're sorry for my going away,
and all the sweethearts ere I had , they wish me one more day to stay,
but since it falls unto my lot that I should go and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call, goodnight and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend and leisure time to sit awhile
there is a fair maid in this town who sorely has my heart beguiled
Her rosey cheeks and ruby lips, I alone she has my heart in thrall
so fill me to the porting glass goodnight and joy be with you all.

Wow, where did this thread come from? Gotta love it, in any case.

I dated a guy for about two minutes in college who was the lead singer in a band. He did a whole lot of James Taylor songs, and his favorite was Steamroller Blues. Whenever I hear "can'’t lose these here low down, no way up, half flying, freeze drying, fat frying, chicken choking............" I think of Doug, who never omitted the last line of those lyrics, regardless of his venue. :teeth:

Here's a fave JT song of mine:

You can play the game and you can act out the part, even though you know it wasn't written for you.
Tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart ashamed of playing the fool?
One thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice.
Oh, father and mother, sister and brother, if it feels nice, don't think twice, just shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna work out fine if you only will do as I say, just
shower the people you love with love, show them the way you feel.
Things are gonna be much better if you only will.

You can run but you cannot hide, this is widely known.
Tell me, what you plan to do with your foolish pride when you're all by yourself, alone.
Once you tell somebody the way that you feel, you can feel it beginning to ease.
I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel always getting the grease.
Better to shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna be just fine if you only will what I’d like to do to you.
Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
Things are gonna be much better if you only will.

Shower the people you love with love, show them the way that you feel.
You'll feel better right away.
Don't take much to do, sell your pride.
They say in every life, they say the rain must fall, just like pouring rain, make it rain.
Make it rain, love, love, love is sunshine, oh yes,
Make it rain, love, love, love is sunshine. Everybody, everybody.

(words to live by, eh? :) )

I think so, too, perdidobay. It may sound corny, but I have seriously always tried to live my life by "showering the people I love with love". People who I love have no doubt where they stand with me - its my best asset and one I'm most proud of. :) Leave it to JT to put it into words for us. :)

Corny? Never.....if only more people would do the same...earth would be a better place:D

Oh, sorry, EROS, I didn't know the history behind this. Maybe they wanted to separate the regular music from the religious music?

In any case, I'm glad this thread is here, since I am not really into Christian music, I would have never seen it otherwise. :)

How about this JT song? Its certainly inspiring, and could be thought of as "religious" for some folks, certainly words to live by:

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There ain't nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride

The secret of love is in opening up your heart
It's okay to feel afraid
But don't let that stand in your way
'Cause anyone knows that love is the only road
And since we're only here for a while
Might as well show some style
Give us a smile

Isn't it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride

Now the thing about time is that time
Isn't really real
It's just your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said he could never understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race

Some kind of lovely ride
I'll be sliding down
I'll be gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride

Isn't it a lovely ride
Sliding down
Gliding down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride

Now the secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

:)

What do you think? Its a good one, no?

Remember when we hold on in the rain
The nights we almost lost it once again
We can take the night into tomorrow
Living on feelings
Touching you I feel it again

Chorus:
Didn't we almost have it all
When love was all we had worth giving
The ride with you was worth the fall my friend
Loving you makes life worth living
Didn't we almost have it all
The nights we held on till the morning
You know you'll never love that way again
Didn't we almost have it all

The way you used to touch me felt so fine
We kept our hearts together down the line
A moment in the soul can last forever
Comfort and keep us
Help me bring the feeling back again

Repeat Chorus

Didn't we have the best of times
When love was young and new
Couldn't we reach inside and find
The world of me and you
We'll never lose it again
Cause once you know what love is
You'll never let it end

Repeat Chorus

Didnt' we almost have it all

how come i've never seen this thread before?

here's my contribution:

He was born in the summer of his twenty seventh year
coming home to a place he'd never been before.
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
you might say he found a key for ev'ry door.
When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
on the road and hangin' by a song.
But the strings already broken and he doesn't really care
it keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long.

But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
the shadow from the starlight
is softer than a lullaby

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

He climbed Cathedral Mountains he saw silver clouds below
he saw ev'rything as far as you can see.
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
and he lost a friend but he kept his memory.

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
seeking grace in ev'ry step he takes.
His sight has turned in side himself to try and understand
the serenity of a clear blue mountain lake.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
talk to God and listen to the casual reply

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
of a simple thing he cannot comprehend.
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
more people more scars up on the land.

And the Colorado Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man
if he never saw an eagle fly.

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high

It's a Colorado Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
friends around the campfire
and ev'rybody's high

Rocky Mountain high, Rocky Mountain high
