The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

This is the song to which my daughter made her entrance into the world. It was also the first song I ever sang to her when we were brought together again in our hospital room later that evening.

Since then she has developed into quite a JT fan...like her mom.

Poor Eros, I happen to like his ways, OK, Gail is ducking, I don't wanna get hit but all you anti Eroses. :D

Ball of Confusion (that’s what the world is today)
The Temptations

(Written by: Barrett Strong/Norman Whitfield
Album Title: Motown Hitsville, USA, Volume 1 disc 4)

People moving out,
People moving in.
why, because of the color of their skin
run, run, run but you sho' can't hide

An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth,
vote for me and I'll set you free
rap on, brother, rap on

The only person talking about love thy brother is the preacher
and it seems
nobody's interested in learning
but the teacher

segregation, determination, demonstration, intergration,
Aggravation, humiliation, obligation to our nation

Ball of confusion, oh yeah
That's what the world is today, hey

The sale of pills are at an all time high
young folks walking round with their heads in the sky
the cities ablaze in the summertime, and oh
the beat goes on

evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul
shooting rockets to the moon
kids growing up too soon
politicians say more taxes, will solve everything
and the band played on

So, round and around and around we go
where the world's headed, nobody knows

Oh, Great Googamooga, can't you hear me talking to you
just a ball of confusion, oh yeah
that's what the world is today, hey

Fear in the air, tension everywhere
unemployment rising fast, the Beatles new record's a gas
and the only safe place to live, is on an indian reservation
and the band played on

Eve of destruction, tax deduction
city inspectors, bill collectors
mod clothes in demand,
population out of hand,
suicide, too many bills
hippies moving to the hills
people all over the world are shouting end the war
and the band played on

Oh, Great Googamooga, can't you hear me talking to you
just a ball of confusion,
that's what the world is today, hey

Blowin' In The Wind

Bob Dylan

1.
How many roads must a man walk down,
Before you can call him a man ?
Yes, 'n how many seas must a white dove sail,
Before she sleeps in the sand ?
Yes, 'n how many times must a cannonball fly,
Before they forever are banned ?

Ref.:
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind,
The answer is blowing in the wind.

2.
How many times must a man look up,
Before he can see the sky ?
Yes, 'n how many ears must one man have,
Before you can hear people cry ?
Yes, 'n how many deaths will it take, 'til he knows,
That too many people have died ?

Ref.: The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind,
The answer is blowing in the wind.

3.
How many years can a mountain exist,
Before it is washed to the sea ?
Yes, 'n how many years can some people exist,
Before they're allowed to be free ?
Yes, 'n how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending, he just didn't see ?

Ref.:
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind,
The answer is blowing in the wind.

Ref.:
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind,
The answer is blowing in the wind.

Something in the way she moves, or looks my way, or calls my name
that seems to leave this troubled world behind.
And if I'm feeling down and blue or troubled by some foolish game,
she always seems to make me change my mind..

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now,
she's around me now almost about all the time.
And if I'm well you can tell she's been with me now.
She's been with me now quite a long, long time and I feel fine.

Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning
and I find myself careening in places where I should not let me go.
She has the power to go where no one else can find me and to silently remind me
of the happiness and the good times that I know, and then I just got to go then.

It isn't what she's got to say but how she thinks and where she's been.
To me, the words are nice, the way they sound.
I like to hear them best that way, it doesn't much matter what they mean.
she says them mostly just to calm me down

And I feel fine anytime she's around me now,
she's around me now almost about all the time.
And if I'm well you can tell she's been with me now.
She's been with me now quite a long, long time and I feel fine.

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.

I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

how many times have we done Something in the Way She Moves, EROS? :p

DH says that song reminds him of me. Ain't he sweet? :teeth:

aprincessmom, this song always reminds me of my kids (the Carole King version, of course):

Lookin out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
And when I knew I had to face another day
Lord it made me feel so tired
Before the day I met you
Life was so unkind
But your love the key to my piece of mind

Cause you make me feel
You make me feel
You make me feel
Like a natural woman

When my soul was in the lost and found
You came along to claim it
I didn't know just what was wrong with me
Till your kiss helped me name it
Now I'm no longer doubtful
Of what I'm livin' for
And if I make you happy
I don't need to do more

Cuz' you make me feel
You make me feel
You make me feel
You make me feel like a natural woman

Oh baby what you done to me!
(What you done to me!)
You make me feel so good inside
(Good inside)
And I just wanna be
(Wanna be)
Close to you
You make me feel so alive

You make me feel
You make me feel
You make me feel like a natural woman

:)

Wild Horses

Jagger/Richards

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady, you know who I am,
You know I can't let you slide through my hands

Wild Horses, Couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, Couldn't drag me away...

I watched you suffer a dull, aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines,
Can make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild Horses, Couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, Couldn't drag me away...

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie,
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken tears must be cried,
Let's do some living after we die

Wild Horses, Couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, We'll ride them someday

Wild Horses, Couldn't drag me away,
Wild, wild horses, We'll ride them someday

some might say this belongs on the Christiam music thread, but it definitely inspires me, so i'm putting it here. :)

I will declare my choice to the nations
Shout for in the congregation
I will worship God, worship God
All my days

Those who love the Lord are satisfied
Those who trust in Him are justified
I will serve my God, serve my God
All my days

When the nations crumble
The word of the Lord will stand
Kings may rise and fall
But His love will endure
Though the strong may stumble
Ah the joy of the Lord is strength
To my soul
I will not be shaken
I will not be moved
I will not be shaken

Ol' man river.
That ol' man river.
He don't say nothin'
But he must know somethin'
Cause he just keeps rollin'
He keeps rollin' along.
Rollin' along.
He don't plant tators
He don't plant cotton.
Them that plants 'em is soon forgotten.
But ol' man river
He keeps rollin' along.
You and me
We sweat and strain.
Body all achin'
And wracked with pain.
Tote that barge.
Lift that bale.
Get a little drunk
And you land in jail.
I gets weary
Sick of tryin'
I'm tired of livin'
Feared of dyin'
But ol' man river
He's rollin' along.

Oh my. Total flashback. I worked for the Hal Prince production of Showboat for almost two years! I've heard that song a million times now! Everytime I hear it I feel I should be working. LOL.

Turn! Turn! Turn!

Words-adapted from The Bible, book of Ecclesiastes
Music-Pete Seeger

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

Please, don't let this feeling end
It's everything I am
Everything I want to be
I can see what's mine now
Finding out what's true
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love
Now, I can take the time
I can see my life
As it comes up shining now
Reaching out to touch you
I can feel so much
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love
And now, I do believe
That even in a storm we'll find some light
Knowing you're beside me, I'm all right
Please, don't let this feeling end
It might not come again
And I want to remember
How it feels to touch you
How I feel so much
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love

My favorite inspiring song ... Pete Gabriel and Kate Bush (no relation to George)

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no-one wants you when you lose

Don't give up
'cos you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
Never thought that I could be affected
Thought that we'd be last to go
It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground

Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything
Don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
Where we belong
Rest your head
You worry too much
It's going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up

Got to walk out of here
I can't take any more
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing

Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not the only one
Don't give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now
We're proud of who you are
Don't give up
You know its never been easy
Don't give up
'cause I believe there's a place
There's a place where we belong.

Save The Best For Last

Sometimes the snow comes down in June
Sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon
I see the passion in your eyes
Sometimes it's all a big surprise
'Cause there was a time when all I did was wish
You'd tell me this was love
It's not the way I hoped or how I planned
But somehow it's enough

And now we're standing face to face
Isn't this world a crazy place
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

All of the nights you came to me
When some silly girl had set you free
You wondered how you'd make it through
I wondered what was wrong with you

'Cause how could you give your love to someone else
And share your dreams with me
Sometimes the very thing you're looking for
Is the one thing you can't see

And now we're standing face to face
Isn't this world a crazy place
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

Sometimes the very thing you're looking for
Is the one thing you can't see

Sometimes the snow comes down in June
Sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon
Just when I thought our chance had passed
You go and save the best for last

You went and saved the best for last

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe,
It don't matter, anyhow.
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe,
If you don't know by now.
When the rooster crows at the break of dawn,
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm travelin' on,
Don't think twice it's all right.

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe,
Light I never know'd
It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe,
I'm on the dark side of the road.
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay,
We never did too much talkin' anyway,
Don't think twice it's all right.

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe,
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye is too good a word gal,
So I'll just say "fair-thee-well"
I ain't saying you treated me unkind,
You could uh done better, but I don't mind
You just sorta wasted my precious time,
Don't think twice it's all right.

It ain't no use in callin' out my name gal,
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name gal,
I can't hear you anymore.
I'm a thinkin' and a wonderin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told,
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul,
Don't think twice it's all right.

The Ballad of Davy Crockett

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee,
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods, so's he know ev'ry tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three

Davy, Davy Crockett, the man who don't know fear
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,

Fought single-handed through the Injun war
Till the Creeks was whipped and the peace was in store
While he was handling this risky chore
Made himself a legend forevermore

Davy, Davy Crockett, holding his promise dear
Davy, Davy Crockett...

Went off to Congress and served a spell
Fixing up the government and laws as well
Took over Washington, so I hear tell
And patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell

Davy, Davy Crockett, seeing his duty clear
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier

He give his word and he give his hand
His Injun friends could keep their land
The rest of his like he took the stand
That justice was due every redskinned man

Davy, Davy Crockett, holding his promise dear
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier

When he came home, his politickin' done
The western march had just begun
So he packed up his gear and his trusty gun
And lit out grinnin' to follow the sun

Davy, Davy Crockett, A leading the pioneers

He heard of Houston and Austin and so
To the Texas plain he just had to go
He fought a died
At the Alamo

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier

GENERAL OF PEACE
(Tom Scott / Beat the Clock)

Put down that gun if you please
There's so much smoke now I can hardly see
P.E.A.C.E., ain't no profanity
So don't think there's something wrong with me
The men with the funds, the men on the top
They pass out the guns, they call the shots
They say, " Strap on your mask and get your *** in the heat,"
But they're not around when there are bullets to meet

Now Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King
Are not around to see us through this thing
But if they were alive today
I think you know what they'd say

We need a General of Peace
to plan our strategy
We need a General of Peace
more smoke is not what we need

P.E.A.C.E. That's what we really need
P.E.A.C.E. A General of Peace

They show it all on T.V.
Except the casualties
In this democracy
They choose what we all should see
The men with the funds, the men on the top
They pass out the guns, they call the shots, they say,
"Strap on your mask and get your *** in the heat,"
But they're not around when there are bullets to meet

Now Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King
Are not around to see us through this thing
But if they were alive today
I think you know what they'd say

We need a General of Peace
We need a general...we need a general
We need a General of Peace
We need a General of Peace

Solving problems with guns
Means you're killing someone
That's no solution to me
More smoke is not what we need
We need someone who can see
We need a General of Peace
