I am starting to look into planning our trip for next Jan--

when I started looking a few days ago the points needed were lower then they are today

were planning on Jan 30 through 2-6 2018

does disney raise the number of points needed like they raise prices

since our home resort is the poly Im checking there a few days ago it was 118 for the week now its 133 with the days in feb 5 points a night higher then Jan

maybe I should just bump the trip to 1-24 through 1 31 to save points

thanks all

They cannot raise the points across the year it is set from the start. But they can raise points during one season and lower them another season to balance. But they only do that once a year.

I can see the difference in the seasons points but why would the points go up from yesterday to today

yesterday when I checked it was 118 points and today going from 1-28 to 2-4 its 133 points

the 4 th is the furtherest out I can check at this point were planning on going 1-30 to 2-6 so I have a few days before I can book

BLT was only 102 (which I thought was great ) today is 111

this is only our second time planning a trip with our DVC

actually we havent even used it yet-- we were supposed to go this Jan I booked 11 month out at poly then was able to switch to BLT at 7 months out but we both had the flu so had to cancel the day before we were to leave and are reschedule to leave in a month for SSR

just hoping this trip will turn out to be as nice as we think the one in Jan was to be

so thanks for the great replies

You're better off using a point calculator from a 3rd party that includes the points for all of 2018.

http://www.dvcrequest.com/cost-calculator.asp

You can also manually calculate the point requirements yourself using the PDF version of the charts that are available on the member website.

It still sounds like you're looking at different dates today vs yesterday. Fridays and Saturdays require more points vs other nights. Points change depending on what season the date is in.

But no, if you were looking at the exact same dates the point requirements would not have and could not have changed so something is different in your search.

You're just not looking at the charts right. DVC didn't change anything. Checking manually and looking at the PDF point charts I can see that a full week in a std. studio in January (all in choice season) is 118 points so that's where you got that number. However as already pointed out you're combining seasons with the dates you want and would only have 2 days in "choice" if you go Jan. 30 thru Feb. 6th. The remainder would be in "dream" season which is 2 seasons "higher" if you will. Supersnoop was correct when they said it would actually be 143 points for the Poly for those dates. You would save 25 points by keeping the entire trip in January.

Recheck.

All Disney can do is reallocate.

If resort X is 5 million points in total (when it is all sold etc), then it is 5 million points for ever (unless they add inventory, such as the Tree House Villas). If they raise one room one point per night, they must lower another room by one point per night, so year over year, things can change, and different dates fall into different seasons. But things will not change from day to day, or based on availability, like hotel rooms.
