Does anyone pick Values over Mods?

Depending on the trip, I pick either Value or Deluxe over Mods.

For me, unless I'm going to pay for a Deluxe (I've only stayed at EPCOT deluxes) with their great pools and walking access to EPCOT and DHS, I'd rather go as inexpensively as I can and stay Value. For me, their is no significant benefit to the Mods over the Values, so I don't want to pay the extra.

I totally agree. We stay value or deluxe because the mods are too much like the values for about twice the cost. Pool slides and hot tubs in 90 degree weather are useless to us.

I don't care for the moderates- I'd rather stay at Pop - it's newer, has the best food court, doesn't share busses or make multiple stops (yet :))

On budget trips we stay at Pop and if we are going to splurge we stay at a deluxe.

That is funny, hubby and I were just having this conversation. DD8 and were at All Star Sports for 5 days last month and we enjoyed oursleves.

We have stayed at POR and CB and I have to say other than having covered buses we actually Pop Century better. We have done OKW and AKL and DD8 will tell you she likes POP better.

We are not coffee drinkers so having a coffee pot is not a big deal for us, we did like the fridge but all we ever put in it is water or juice so when we went last month we did not pay extra for a fridger I just brought a soft sided cooler (we drive, I know this is not an option for everyone) and filled it every morning. Sure its a little work, but I would rather save the money and spend it somewhere else.

I think it also depends on what you do. My BFF will only stay Deluxe but that is because he hubby does not go to the park as much and she and her kids do, he likes to hang out at the resort so they only do Deluxe.

My DD8 wants to stay at Boardwalk so bad, she loves Epcot and all she can talk about it being able to just walk there. When I showed her the difference in the cost she said "nope, I love my Pop Century." We are park people all day all we do is sleep and shower at the resort. Maybe get in the pool once or twice. We have a pool at home so the pool is something we can do anytime and not share with people.

So to answer your question, YES! My family will choose a value over a moderate.

I would stay at a value over CBR, but would prefer POR, POFQ, or CSR over the values. I really was disappointed in CBR, so there's no way I would waste my money when I like Pop more. :thumbsup2

I love POR, but it would cost $400 more for our upcoming trip and that would require us to accept double beds. A king bed is yet another $200. At POP we can request a king for the same price. I tend to spend about $800pp for a week long trip, so that extra $300 each is way too much.

We can go to POR for dinner at Boatwrights, a walk around the resort, and Bob Jackson's show then head back to POP.

I don't know. I think CSR is closer to a deluxe than a value. On site restaurant, killer pool, queen beds, spa....

If we were at the parks every day all day, the values would be a good choice. But we go so often now that we always have a day or two we hang around the resort.

If I really needed a WDW fix and was light on cash, I'd probably do the values, but that's about it.

I've never stayed at a Value or Mod but when we added a day on at the end of our upcoming trip in Dec, we chose Pop! I considered CBR or CS before deciding. We usually stay deluxe because I like the extra room and DH does spend time at the resort while DS and I are running around. I don't think a Value would suit us at all size wise (DS is already 6'3"!) but I have always thought POP was cute and had great theming so we are giving it a try for one night. It seems that so many ppl love POP and the food court looks great!

My thing is we are booked at FQ with free dining but are thinking of changing to a value. I would rather have the QS than the regular dining plan and plus it is a 500 dollar difference in price, for that we could play golf and do other things, or add another night and still come out cheaper. The only thing is we do plan on spending sometime at the resort. I just don't want to be disappointed in our decision.

You can pay and upgrade to the regular dining plan, even if you are staying at a Value resort. It doesn't cost a whole lot, I believe about $10 a day a person.

Personally, I would take POP over the mods any day. I've stayed at all the mods, and actually enjoyed all of my stays at POR, but for me, the mod rooms aren't that much bigger than the values and they're definitey not that much nicer. People always talk about the value rooms being "bare bones" but I don't really find the moderates to be any better. Plus, the food court at POP is better than the food court at any of the mods. I just can't justify the extra money for the mods when I don't feel like I'm getting anything better than the values. If I had it my way, I'd never stay anywhere except CR, but if I'm not staying deluxe, I'm a perfectly happy girl at POP.

We're staying at AsMo June 2011. Previously we've been at AKL. Big change! Why? We are now a family of 6 & need 2 rooms or a $$$villa. Also, our new addition DS4 (will be 5 when we go), thinks there can be nothing better than staying in the Toy Story Hotel!:rotfl: Our girls are a little disappointed but we'll be at Disney so they'll get over it & have a great time!

We either pick value or deluxe (and much prefer the deluxe). It depends on if we have others going with us (the kids friends, or grandma). If we go that route then we always stay value. We need 2 rooms and cant afford 2 deluxe or a 2 br villa. It would cost us and extra $1100 to upgrade from 2 rooms at a value to 2 rooms at a mod. Not worth it to us. I just wish we had a different value to try. The All Stars dont intrest me, so we always pick POP. I would love to have another choice.

We do. We have visited but not stayed atmods, but we prefer the over the top theme of the values. This trip we priced out staying at a mod with FD over a value with free QSDP and paying the upgrade but we really didn't want to stay at a mod so we decided to just pay for what we wanted, even if it was more. (In the end we opted to keep QSDP and just pay OOP for the few meals we wanted, again maybe paying more but getting what we actually wanted.) Truth is we have no desire to stay anywhere but the values. The kids say how "lucky" we are to get to stay at the Disney themed resorts. I think the themes at the other resorts are great but they aren't our cup of tea, we want a Disney theme for our trips.

We always say if we won the lottery tomorrow we'd still stay values we'd jsut stay a lot longer. We are very happy there. We don't find them to be too small. Our DD15 sleeps in her grandparents' room to follow the rules, but if it wasn't a rule she'd just stay with us too. They are fine shring a bed. We all share 1 bathroom at home so on vacation is no different and she keeps all her stuff and gets ready in our room only using their room to sleep.

To each his/her own of course, but I don't understand why people think they are so bad? To us they are great!

I agree! We go to Disney for the characters and that includes seeing them at our hotel. My kids love to walk around and look at all the statues and take pictures with them. There is plenty of space in the room for us and we never really spend much time there anyway. We also like to go in December so we usually don't "need" to spend much time in the pool - being from Minnesota we haven't found it too cold to swim but we'd rather spend time in the parks!

My first few trips to WDW I stayed at mods and loved them, esp POR. Then I started staying at deluxes and couldn't go back. Bought at DVC and then went deluxe when I ran out of points. Last year however (drum roll!) I stayed at ASMU and was shocked! I thought it was just as nice if not nicer than my favorite POR! The food court is a wonderful thing to have that I miss at deluxes. The pools were terrific and I don't use a slide... Yes i definitely like deluxes better - for all the deluxe reasons. But in the future when i want to extend a stay or go a day early or just take a quick cheap trip it will be to a value, not a mod. I just could not say the mods had anything over the values at all that made the mod worth. And I liked my ASMU room!

I agree with everything you said about POP - it is definitely a great resort and deserves to be considered a mod. We just got back from our 4th trip there and have made a reservation for next year for our 5th stay (2 weeks). The refurbed rooms are really nice and the dining court is great! :surfweb:

Having only 2 Disney hotel stays under my belt, one value and one mod, we're headed back to value in the spring. Our reasons revolve around budget and kids. They love the loud crazy colors with the giant characters and since we aren't hanging around the room too much, we figured we'd save a little money and extend our stay instead of staying mod. Don't get me wrong, I still would love to stay mod. My first version of this trip had us staying at POFQ. It took me a few months to get used to idea we weren't going to have the boat to DTD, etc....But I know the kids are going to love POP and I'm happy to use the saved money on other Disney things during the trip.

Just wondering if anyone picks value over mods and why?

Sometimes. Values are great when we're on a tighter budget, plus when I travel alone with the kids (dh doesn't come on all of our trips) we don't need a lot of extra space in the room. I prefer moderates, but am OK with staying at the value resorts.
