Hello DIS friends,

Isn't anyone out there that has a heavy heart for all those poor people out there in the Russia school hostage situation??? The children, the parents, the agony, how upsetting is this situation................... I just can't seem to break out in tears yet..........

Can anyone explain who and what are the Checyans???

Thanks. :( :(

I heard about that on the radio coming in to work this morning.

What a tragedy. :(

It breaks my heart to think of what those poor children have suffered. I couldn't imagine my dds in such a situation. Not to mention what the parents must be going through. It's absolutely horrific.

From what I understand, Chechnya is a small province in southern Russia, which has long its demanded independence. Incidentally, it has a high Muslim population, and there has been suggestions that some of its terrorist activities have some links to Al-Qiada.

The Chechen rebels were also responsible for the takeover of a Russian theater, that left dozens dead and scores more hospitalized after the Russian police released gas into the theater.

Their demands in this situation were not clear. Some early reports indicated that they were demanding the release of people imprisoned after attacks on police stations, but officials also stated that the hostage-takers had not given any clearly formulated demands.

The police said at first that they were not going to storm the school, but they may have had to change their minds after the children had gone 2 days without water . . .

I have no words to describe how I feel. Unbelieveably horrible!

Oh yes, I have... :sad1:

Those poor children and their parents. I can not even imagine going to my DD's school and learning that there are men and women in there with guns and are threatening to kill my baby!

It makes me so sick and so angrywhen I hear of these types of things!
People who do these types of things..... I can not even think of words that would describe them fully...sick, demented, horrible, those words do not even come close to describing them!

So sad...and so scary.

Very, very sad, the things that people do to other people, and above all, children.

Grinningghost, I clicked on the link but had to stop reading. I cannot begin to imagine what those poor children & parents are going through. It just sickens me!!! Makes me want to go get DS out of school right now & give him a big hug.

I am so sick about this...so very sad. I was just holding one of my 5 month olds and crying about it.

I don't know how people can possibly be so cruel....:sad1:

the Chechens have introduced Shari'a in at least part of Chechnya. . .with that said, I'm not sure what more they are fighting for, to be honest with you. To expand?

They are Muslim fundamentalist murderers. Let's not leave that part out. . .so much of the press refers to them as "Chechen rebels" exclusively. They are Muslim terrorists doing what the Koran commands them to do-- Jihad.

I like to think that there's a special section of Hell reserved for people that do stuff like this...

In addition to the theater hostage taking incident, the Chechens also pulled a similar stunt in a hospital in 1995. They also were the ones that were fond of packing explosives into ground level apartments and taking down whole complexs in Russia a few years back.

While not officially part of Bin Laden's organization, there's been plenty of evidence of cooperation and cross-training between the two groups.
