Does Anyone Here Knit? =)

I'm currently working on a sweater, it's a little awkward because my aunt found a great yarn online but for the life of me I can't find any patterns for it. It's similar to some other yarns but the gauge is a little different so the patterns need adjusting.

Speaking of patterns, anyone have any good pattern websites? I like a lot of the patterns at www.knitty.com

I use knitty a lot! I also get the LionBrand weekly news letter and that usually has at least 2 patterns in it, plus you can look in the back issues for patterns.

Anyone here S 'n B? I want to start a group in Buffalo and need some tips since I've never been to one.

Anyone here S 'n B?

That sounds vaguely kinky :lmao:

I haven't made anything from Knitty yet, although I do have several patterns in mind to make! I've started saving the patterns in PDF format so that I don't need to rely on the site in case it suddenly goes >poof<.

I don't know how to knit, but I wish I did. I love walking through the yarn aisle at Joanns and seeing all the pretty colors!

I know how to crochet, but I've never finished anything in my life. Same with cross stitch.

So for those who knit and crochet, what's the difference? Is one easier or faster than the other?

If I understand it correctly, with crocheting you have one "live" stitch at a time; with knitting you have multiple live stitches...

I've done both crochet and knit. To me, crochet is faster, so I've done many afghans. I think it would take forever to knit an afghan, unless you use super-chunky yarn and big needles. Crochet also produces a "looser" stitch (at least using basic stitches), so I wouldn't use crochet for a sweater, unless you want a lacy look to wear over another top.

I like them both, but since I just learned knitting a couple of years ago, I'm really into knitting right now.

I taught myself how to knit last summer. My mom, who has knit for years, helped me with a few things I couldn't get on my own. Since then I am told that I am pretty good. And it's very very addicting.

I just finished my first big project a blanket for my soon-to-be-born niece. Now, I am working on a sweater for her. I love to knit. When I started, I would knit dishcloths. They aren't really practical as dishcloths, but they are usually manageable size rectangles that get you used to working with patterns and different stitches.

The best resource I own is Knitting for Dummies -- even though I don't normally like the Dummies books, I don't know whether it's the pictures or the descriptions but whenever I am trying something new, it helps tremendously.

I love baby blankets so I plan to stockpile them for when my friends have kids and when eventually I do as well. There also is a charity called The Linus Project that gives blankets to unwanted babies and I would like to make some for that as well.

This week, I just picked up a book of patterns for prayer shawls. My church has a prayer shawl ministry and I hope to be able to contribute to that. I also just picked up a pattern book for baby socks. That will be an adventure but since my sister LOVES baby socks, I figure I will try to make some for the baby.

For me it's something to do while I am watching TV, or at work when I am on conference calls (shh don't tell). I also have been in heaven since I learned you can take knitting needles on airplanes. I am a really nervous flyer so having a project to work on really helps pass the time and cut down on the anxiety.

Oooh, I didn't know they were allowing needles on planes again! That's great news!
