Does Anyone Here Knit? =)

Does anybody here knit? What are you making? I am making a purse. :cool1:
I cant wait wait until its finished!

Just curious...did you finish the purse? Post a picture!

I started knitting again just before New Years. I first knit a sweater, 20 years ago but it didn't fit so I quit. Recently I had to sit by someone in the hospital for a few weeks, and had too much nervous energy to read. So I made a scarf. Then a hat, making it up as I went along. Then a couple more hats. Then I found some baby yarn abandoned in my mom's back bedroom, so I made a couple of baby hats, figuring I could use them for presents or donate them.

I got some knitting books out of the library to refresh my memory. My favorite was StitchN__, which was very amusing and current.

Only problem is my right arm/wrist will start to burn if I knit too much. I have to limit myself.

First try, going for an old lady look <g> :

Second try, for a teenaged boy. Didn't do a gauge check first so it ended up too big around.

Third try, another old lady hat. Excuse the picture, only had a camera phone that day:

I recently learned, but I have trouble reading patterns. I've only made scarves and an iPod case to date. I'm working on a baby sweater now on size 10 needles using a really pretty green yarn. It's basically a bunch of squares you sew together, so it should be easy.

I love to knit! I taught myselg from a book a couple of years ago then took some classes at Michael's to find out what I was doing wrong or the hard way. ;)

I have made a couple of hats but Dashzap yours are really nice! I have also made several ponchos and purses. I haven't done anything lately-- I need inspiration!

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone, but I knit. Wife and I used to go to a class every Wednesday night and knit stuff. It wasn't an organized class in that you made a specific item....it was a bring your project and work on it and ask questions when you have a problem. It was great and we did that for a couple years until we moved. We still knit, but it goes a lot slower now because of the time constraints!

I am currently working on a dress for my daughter....it's a combo, knit and fabric dress. I am knitting the top and my wife is going to sew the bottom on.

Here is a pic of my favorite project ever. It took me about 4 months to do, and I had to let the teacher of the class put the front and back together, but it's awesome. I gave it to my niece for x-mas that year.

Thanks, they look rather wormy in person, :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But they are fun to make and my sister will wear any hat I churn out!

I'm going to experiment with using more than one color, then try to make a Mickey hat. I've heard there are websites that help you make a pattern.

I happen to have some red yard and some white yarn, so I think a Where's Waldo hat may be next.

I LOVE it. Both the fact that you knit, and that sweater. It's gorgeous!!! (As is your neice).

ITA with Dashzap--hats are easy. And they knit up nice and fast.

I'm currently making about 20 felted cellphone/ipod cases. They're super cute, knit up really fast, and felt up quick too. The worst part is sewing the button on after they've felted.

I learned to knit in the third grade from my wonderful teacher that year. She taught the entire class--then I went home and taught my mom and grandmother, both of whom could crochet but had never learned to knit. :rotfl: I've been doing it on and off ever since.

I also like to crochet (although I'm not very good at it), cross stitch, embroidery, and scrapbooking. I always have some kind of project (or two or three) going.

I learned to knit just over a year ago so mostly I've done scarves and the like. I have a friend who is pregnant so I think I will be doing a baby blanket for her. About to finish up a scarf I have been working on for a while (took too much time off at the holidays) and then will get to work on a matching hat and the blanket when I get yarn.

I taught myself to knit about 9 years ago when my daughter was an infant. I was a stay-at-home mom and we had just moved to a new town where I didn't know anyone, so it helped with the boredom. I didn't do a lot, and never finished a project, but I still enjoyed it. Then, in 2002, I found out my sister-in-law was pregnant with her first child. My MIL (her mom) had been diagnosed with breast cancer when I was pregnant with my DD and to help keep her mind off of her illness, she knitted two beautiful blankets for my baby. However, she got too sick to finish the second one, and died when DD was 6 months old. My FIL gave me all her knitting materials, including the unfinished blanket. I got to thinking how sad it was that my nephew-to-be wouldn't have a blanket made by his grandmother, like my DD did, so I decided to finish the second blanket (There was only about 10 rows left.) to give to him. I was TERRIFIED to start it, because I didn't want to mess it up! But, I was able to finish it, and when I gave it to my SIL, she asked me if I made it. I said, "No, your mom did.", and she almost lost it. It meant so much to her, and I was so happy that I could give her such a special gift. After that, I decided to make another blanket for him that was just like the first blanket my MIL made, that my DD has always used as her "blankie". I used my MIL's pattern and her needles, and made it in blue (DD's was pink.). It turned out great, and again, SIL was so happy to have it. Last year, she gave birth to her second child, a girl, and I had a pink "Grandma" blanket ready for her as well.

My favorite thing to do now is find things in stores and try to copy them. This Fall, I was able to copy a scarf from Limited Too for my DD, and made a few for her friends as well. They loved them! I've also copied a cable knit bag that I saw on a website selling for $250! I made it for much, much less. Now, I'm trying to copy an afghan that I saw in the Pottery Barn catalog; it'll take a while, but should be really nice. I love to see things in stores that I know I could make myself. It's fun to take on the challenge!

I like the challenge, too. That is why I've not used any patterns. :goodvibes

I love that you kept up the grandma blanket tradition.

I used to do counted cross stitch, but took up knitting about 4 years ago when I was having a hard time seeing the holes in the fabric. The stitches in knitting are alot bigger! I've made hats (both adult and baby) scarves, ponchos, shawls, felted bags and baby blankets. Lately it seems baby blankets are all I'm making! We have many friends and family members pregnant, so I wanted to make a blanket for each of them. The next one is due next month, so I'm trying to finish the one I'm working on before then. After that, I'll have a break. DD is having a baby in August.

Like someone else said, sadly when I knit for a long time, my right wrist starts to hurt. I'm hoping that some trips to massage therapy will fix that right up!

I come from a long line of knitters, cross stitchers, and crafty people. I am NOT crafty, but I learned to knit from my mom so that I could make baby blankets for each of my sons. I use the easiest pattern available, and hope I don't make too many mistakes. My mom still had to get the blanket started and finished - I just did the sweat work in the middle.

So, now my mom has joined a group called Binky Patrol - they make blankets for underprivileged babies to take home with them from the hospital. Despite my lack of talent, I have decided to give it a try and started a blanket last night. I figure I'll do my best and really, how picky can an infant be? Wish me luck!

I've been knitting since I was 8. I can do patterns like cables and knit/purl textures, but I only seem to be able to make things that are square/rectangular! Lots of blankets, scrves, and dishcloths. I am making a sweater right now that's very basic, so hopefully I can move up to hats and mittens to go with my 7 million scarves I have!

Although I thought I was one of a few young people who knit, I have discovered it's really making a comeback! My friends are asking me not only to make them stuff, but to teach them as well.

I mostly knit socks -- start on four double-point needles and then switch to a teeny INOX circular, all on size 1s. Don't ask me why, but I love them and really do wear them.

I have knit scarves, hats and a baby sweater, too, but keep coming back to socks, the perfect take-along project.

I'm learning how to knit socks using the Magic Loop, have you ever tried that? It seems a little crazy, but easier than wrestling with 3 or 4 of those teeny tiny needles.

I've knit several pairs of socks using worsted weight, and size 7 and 8, they were nice and warm and toasty.

I'm currently working on a sweater, it's a little awkward because my aunt found a great yarn online but for the life of me I can't find any patterns for it. It's similar to some other yarns but the gauge is a little different so the patterns need adjusting.

Speaking of patterns, anyone have any good pattern websites? I like a lot of the patterns at www.knitty.com

I don't knit but I do crochet. I love making baby blankets. Everyone that I know that has had a baby has several blankets from me. Right now I'm mostly working on scarves for friends. I also crochet tiny preemie blankets and hats that I donate to a local hospital. They are very quick and give me a way to use up any leftover scraps of yarn.
