Ive been on SS for a few years--I also work as pool in a hospital( picking up hrs if were short--regular employees can call me to work for them if they need a day off) so I have no schedule or any gurnatee of hrs

I know SS has a limit of how much you can make and work--well last year I didnt watch as closely as I should have I had to make sure we make what we invested--I was watching that more-

anyways so I made over the limit--so now I get a letter that I need to repay -which I figured I would have too
but the letter doesnt make much sense
first they talk about sending them a check that would be ok
but then it also sounds like theyll take it out of my SS which would also be ok
I just want to send a check and have them take it out

just wondering if anyone else did this and what was done
Im planning on calling tomorrow--just hope Im not on hold to long

Actually yes. I was only on hold for 15 minutes and got a great person. She answered all my questions so I could understand what she was talking about. Also I’m not sure if these ads are all over but we have ads for Medicare that day you need to call to see if you qualify for additional benefits one being that you could get
Money added back to your SS She said she’s not sure of limits but she gave us the website. So that was helpful. But I got the answer yes I went over the limit. Thought maybe I could get some help since help since I’m an essential worker filling in so much since Covid we were short. So for 2 hrs they’ll just take a little out of my SS. No interest or penalty. Glad that’s done. I’m already keeping good records so this doesn’t happen again.

Think those ads you are referring to are for some medicare advantage plans. They provide more benefits but limit where you can go to get care. They have better options in some areas than others.

Those TV ads are CONSTANTLY on here. VERY misleading since these are all 3rd party companies trying to sell you their insurance coverage. I would imagine many elderly people see those ads and think they need to call to confirm something and they are NOT talking with anyone from SS. I think those ads should have to clearly state they are trying to sell you something (not buried in the fine print that races across the screen so no one can read it) and they don't represent the govt.

For the OP, if you got an official letter from SS, there is nothing wrong in calling to discuss something. Always make sure the phone # provided in such letters is actually SS and then you don't have to worry about scams. You can also find legit SS phone #'s on their website. People who randomly call you on your phone are most likely scams since SS will rarely contact you that way. Scam callers usually talk in generalities since they likely don't any of your info such as your SS#, how much you make, etc.

Working a little on Social Security is usually not a big deal for part timers/contingent. It all depends on your age and how much you make. This SSA packet gives some good examples.
