Does anyone ever use the taxis at WDW?

Hi,
I was just wondering if taxis are readily available outside of the parks and resorts and if anyone ever bypasses using the disney transportation system and just uses taxis instead. How much is the fare? Any information that you could give would be useful!
Thanks

We've used them several time to go from resort to another resort for dinner. Depending on how far it's usually $10-$15

The ONLY time we have ever had to use a taxi was when DW and DS went from Port Orleans Riverside to Discovery Cove.

For the past 3 trips, we have used Disney Transportation and have never had a single issue.

We used them on our Feb trip to get to and from AKL to the Poly for breakfast on our departure day. $13 each way if I remember correctly. It is worth it for us for those times when you HAVE to be somewhere @ a certain time. Plan to use them from CR to AK in Oct for our early character breakfast. Disney transport works great though. No worries :sunny:

We use them a couple of times each trip. We've used them to get to a Theme Park from Downtown Disney (busses there only go to resorts). We've used them to get back to the hotel at night from Disney Studios when the lines for the bus were super long. We've used them to get to other resorts from our resort. The only place where it is not convienent to use a cab is leaving the Magic Kingdom, you have to go to the TTC, so you might as well just take the bus.

It looks like there are always cabs available at the theme parks, they are not always visible (they want you to use Disney transportation), ask a cast member where the cab stand is. There are always a few cabs waiting. Normally there are cabs at your resort, sometimes a cab needs to be called, the bellhop will do this and it doesn't take long at all.

You can get anywhere in the "world" for $10-$15.

I took the boat to MGM,I took the Monorail to Poly and GF,
I took the bus twice (going to MK from BC in the morning was very easy on the bus) But I had to wait 30 minutes for the DTD bus.... which seemed even longer.

Then ..... since I had a little extra spending money, I tried taking the taxis on the way home from the parks, and on the way out to my ADR's and Shows. It's a very nice way to spoil yourself, and no trip was over $19.00

I took 6 rides and spent $120.
I felt it was well-worth-it especialy late-at-night or when I was in a rush.

PS... If Disney would install a system that used GPS technology at each bus stop to let you know how long until the next bus arrived...I would use the bus more. But now...when you show-up at the bus stop, you never know if the bus just left(and you have a 30minute wait) or is just about to turn the corner into the parking lot?

We used the taxis this past May to get from POP to POFQ at 7:00 am. We also used them to get from the GF after the late seating of V+A's (we were done around midnight) to the WL. It was $10 both times with tip.

We have used them different times when we have had late nights at the BW, or changed hotels with our luggage etc... The last time we used one taught me a lesson though...negotiate the fare ahead of time if possible. My Mother and I went from the Dolphin to AKL for breakfast and were charged $40.00 to get there(1 way).

We only used a taxi once on our trip last October, but we both agreed that it was the best $14 we had spent all day. After a long day in the park, we just couldn't deal with waiting in line and standing up in a full bus for 20 or so minutes. At that point, a cab seemed like a very reasonable option.

On our next trip, we plan to rely on the buses for most of our transporatation to/ from the parks, but I have also factored in about 6 or 7 cab rides into our touring plan & budget, especially for dining at other resorts.

We used one once. Party of 10, leaving Epcot at closing on July4th in 2004. The line to get back to POR was at least an hour wait.......so we checked with a van driver. It cost us $20 plus a tip, and we gave him a very good tip.
Well worth it, IMO.

We use them occasionally, and have never paid more than $10 or $11 for the fare. Sometimes its just easier to spend a little bit of money and get a ride right to your door then waiting for the Disney buses.

This is great advice. We negotiated the fare ahead of time and there were no problems or surprises!

We' ve used a cab several times for ADR's, it was much better than making several transfers and wasting lots of precious time. It has always been very quick with bell services getting a cab, couple of minutes at the most and the fares where never more than $10-12.

I was warned by a friend that you should under NO CIRCUMSTANCES allow a taxi driver to charge you for any tolls or anything... (This is for people who use taxis to or from the airport, and other places outside of Disney property.)

They are not supposed to charge you as they prepay for the tolls.

If you are short on time (need to get to a PS) taxi is the way to go. It is the only direct, non-stop transportation in the Kingdom and the price is worth it when your in a pickle.

We used them in May...we had reservations for the Behind the Steam Train Tour....which starts before the parks open, and also before the buses start or the Monorail starts....we took a cab from Boardwalk Villas to MK....but forgot that they can only drop you off at the TTC....well, we had to wait for the monorail to go into operation....just got to the entrance of the park before the tour guide took off.....about three other couples were racing to get there also, ....my suggestion to Disney is either provide transportation to these tours or start the tours later!

We took one from Epcot to POR last week. We leisurely left after Illuminations, but the bus line was still very long. The taxi was $8.50 plus tip for 4 of us. (and well worth it!)

We have used them for resort-to-resort travel, and also for getting to the Richard Petty Experience. Never thought of taking one from park to resort when lines are long...what a great idea!
