Does anyone else LIKE dressing up for cruise?

I have read a lot of posts about people preferring not to do the formal nights or not dressing overly formal for them. However, I actually look forward to getting all dressed up on the cruise. As a mom of 4, I don't get too many chances at home to do so (and if I did, I am usually to tired to go!) So I really get dressed up on the cruise. I was just wondering if anyone else feels the same way??

I haven't cruised since i was 10 on the HAL Statendam, and I loved it then (1977...oh lord how my kids laugh at those photos) and I'm SO looking forward to it now!!

My life is perma-wash-&-wear... the single mom life is not very glamorous. LOL I love the chance for DS and I both to dress up for once! And I cherish those formal portraits!

We missed not getting all dressed up on the 4 night cruise, so we decided to do a 7 nighter. I'm trying to talk the DH into renting a tux, but I think he'll be in his suit. My DD (7) already has some wonderful cocktail dresses passed down from an older cousin. She's going to look great and can hardly wait, like her mom. We will be very happy to get all dressed up. There are lots like you and me out there, they just don't complain as loudly!

My DH is the one who loves to get dressed up! I don't mind getting dressed up for formal nights on a cruise, I like the idea of the formal portraits, but if they did away with formal nights, I wouldn't mind at all. My DH would wear a suit to dinner EVERY night if the cruise line expected it. LOL

As a classic soccer Mom,
I LOVE the opportunity to dress up! My cruise is'nt until July and I am already thinking about what to wear to Palo's!

For the regular rotation dinners, I usually wear a nice dress or blouse and skirt combo, dressy sandals, etc. You can do a lot with seperates and dress them up with accessories. You do NOT need to bring a ton of clothes.

For my kids, I bring them each "nice" clothes. Sundresses are nice for my daughter, but she may do something special with her hair. My son loves to be ultra casual. (We are working on his table/social manners!) It will be a battle to get him to wear pants for dinner. I figure if I bring just 2 pairs just for dinner...they can stay clean.

My husband does not enjoy dressing up. I make him do it and make it worth his while! LOL! He is already griping about wearing a coat to dinner! I only ask that for Palos!

Being a stay at home mom who doesn't go out (espeically without her little ones) I love the opportunity for all of us to get dressed up!

When I first heard about it I considered room service as my dining choice for those evenings. Now I can't wait for the opportunity to "dress" for dinner again.

I guess I am more gen-teel than I thought.

I also look foreward to dressing up since I don't get much of a chance at home. But I am also the one who packs WAY too many clothes and espeially shoes!!! But iy is fun and I enjoy it!

My kids and DH on the other hand........they will do it but I don't know that they get the same thrill out of it as I do!

Plus, I really enjoy looking for that perfect dress for that occassion!

Hi Neverlandclub,
I loved to get dressed up! We are on the same cruise as you, and I already have my outfits for formal, semi-formal, and Palo all lined up. I have a black floor length dress for formal night, and two dressy dresses for the other nights. DH owns a tux, so we'll probably bring that, though I think I'm going to go with dark suits for the boys instead of tuxes. Less than 3 months to go!

We don't dress up much so dressing up on a cruise is nice. Dh even bought a tux last year. The boys don't really like it but they do it anyway.

We don't get dressed up too much at home, our church is very laid back and we dress quite casual. We kind of enjoyed getting dressed up for our evening meals. It was the first time in over two years that our DD had a dress on. In fact she wore a dress for each evening meal and she looked so beautiful each evening, it made her mom and dad, very proud.

Hubby wears jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt to work every day, and I spend as much time as possible at home in jeans or sweats. We both get a real kick out of dressing up on the ship. People who see our photos are amazed to find that we really do own dress clothes!

We really like getting dressed up too! My DD is really into it. We have to limit the amount of shoes she brings, or she'd wear a different pair every night.

We really love our family portraits we have all dressed up from our cruises!

Weve only done the 3 day cruises so far(hoping for 7 day in 2005!!!), but even for that we enjoy dressing up(Tritons & Palo). The only time we dres up like that at home is for weddings and a once a year holiday party. Like others who have replied, Im a SAHM, who lives in sweats, so to put on a dress and heels is a big deal to me. DH has no problem wearing a suit and even he likes the idea of dressing up for dinner on the ship.

I think dressing for dinner is a part of the experience. We live in a very casual society where social graces can be sorely lacking in everyday life. It's good to revisit a time where civility was the rule and not the occassional dailliance.

Oh man, I like to dress up too, the really dressy dress up! I can't wear jeans to my work, so I keep sweatsuits or shorts on as much as I can at home.
My sons can't wait, in fact they even asked me to get them jackets for dinner, even thou we are a 4 day Wonder cruise. And, my darling daughter has picked out a pattern for one of her dresses... Its a long one, she is at that odd age- 11( thinks she is 25 sometimes!) and caught between that little girl and big girl stage... cant find a happy medium! So; I opted and took her to JoAnn's ...I figured this way she & I can both be happy! lol The other half, well he wears longjohns, blue jeans, teeshirts,sweats, & overalls and a facemask to work all the time...toe warmers in his boots in this Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr weather we have been having... so he isnt too-too happy but...he'll do it....or he'll pay for it later! *wink,wink*
Anyways, we will be there in full gear, even thou this isnt a 7 nighter and suggested/recommended .

My family and I will be on the 3 night Wonder in April. My husband and I will be celebrating our 5th anniversary our last night on the ship. My husband will be wearing a tux and I will be in a long formal gown that night while we dine at Palo. We are very much looking forward to dressing up. Our DD's, 12 and 17 are very excited about dressing up also. They are looking for dresses to wear on the cruise while dining. I think that it is very exciting to dress up and can't wait until it is our day to do it!!
