Does anyone else LIKE dressing up for cruise?

DH and I like dressing up for formal night on our cruises. We aren't dressy people by nature, but like the tradition of a formal night at Sea!

I love dressing up for formal nights - DH could probably do without (more a tie issue than the jacket) as well as my DS's but they sure do "clean up nice".

It's funny....in the beginning of our DCL cruises back in '98 my son 13 at the time, never wanted to dress up for the formal nights....well, now that he is older and wiser and knows a sharp looking guy can attract the ladies...he is all for dressing up!!!

We never really get a chance to get dressed formally back at home other than weddings, so we really do enjoy dressing up on the cruise!!! My DD's 15 and 20 LOVE IT as well!!!

How dressy are the formal nights? Will Ds 11 need a tux? Can I rent one for him? He does not have a suit that fits right now, but does always have dress pants and ties. Will my DD 4 need a long dress? By summer nothing will fit so she will need all new things anyway. I was thinking of getting her several nice dresses after Easter hopefully on sale!;) While I am excited about them getting dressed up I am not too sure about me! I am VERY sure the dressy things in my closet are a size to small! It must be the hidden shrinking machine in that closet!:D

Yes, we enjoyed dressing up for dinner.

I still think they should offer people a choice: dressy or casual seating. For example, everyone who requests dressy could be given APL rotation, while those who want casual could be given PLA -- or some other variation.

disneycrazymom....your ds does not need to wear a tux. Boys his age wear nice slacks, button up shirts with ties and/or a jacket but the jacket is not really necessary.

Your DD does not need a long dress, though my kids at that age loved long dresses. Easter dresses would be prefect for her!!!

Count us in on this one! (Am I glad I found this thread!)

I'm a SAHM, DH is an aircraft mechanic, and 9 yo DD wears a school uniform. Needless to say, we LOVE to dress up for this cruise. It's half the fun for us! Last year (on 2nd DCL), DH actually said 'you're right. It IS fun to dress up like this.'

I'm already doing the 'diet before the cruise' trip in May, so I can buy more black dresses and try them on OVER and OVER again before the big sailing date. DD is asking to borrow my earrings. (No, I still think she's too young.)

We can't wait!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I am so glad I am not alone. Mouseclick1, I can't wait to see your formal black dress on the cruise. I still need to find the "perfect dresses" for me. I may just raid one of my sister's closets. I am celebrating my anniversary on board so I need an extra formal outfit for that evening for Palo. I am so excited I could just bust!! I am hoping to find white for one night, black for another, and red for my anniversary night! My DD's love dressing up and usually wear one of their princess costumes. My DS is a sport and will dress up as well. My DH is actually considering renting a TUX!! I can't believe it. I tried to convince him last time but he said he would only do it if he could rent one like in Dumb and Dumber. LOL Anyway, I can't wait to get my new formal photos. I love being a girl!

Thank-you mmouse. DS will happily wear a tie. I would like to see and DH in a tux though! DD should be easy! She was telling me she wants a dress like Barbie's party dress!:D

From what I have read and seen in some pics, quite a few of the littler girls do wear the Disney princesses' dresses for dinner...just an idea since you mentioned about the Barbie Party Dress! :)

I love dressing up too! So many posts about how people hate that part of cruising, glad to see there are still those out there that enjoy it!

I rarely dress up at home, so it is so nice to do it on a cruise! My boys who were 5, 7 and 9 on the cruise even dressed up for the first time. they looked adorable in their ties and sport coats. I got the best pictures of them ever on that night. They didn't seem to mind it, and I thnk they respected the dinners more by having to change clothes for dinner every night!

I absolutely LOVE getting dressed up!!!

Nice thing is I have a formal dress I had gotten for a function a year or so ago! DH owns a tux already because of his job and DD has a lovely dress she got for her Christmas dance at school!

Now I just have to figure out what to do with these weeds I call son and stepson! LOL...They are growing soooo fast!

We loved dressing up on the cruise! I work from home, so dressing up for me means wearing black jeans instead of sweat pants! Vacationing gives me a chance to wear clothes I don't get a lot of opportunity to wear otherwise, so I enjoyed that aspect of the cruise.

We love getting dressed up also!!!:jumping3: :jumping3:

neverlandclub & mouseclick1 - we are on the cruise with you also and we can't wait. I also have my formal picked out (long black dress) and several others for the other nights. DH also owns a tux which he will wear. Oldest DD did not get a long formal for the cruise last year, just a really fancy sundress. Boy, I did not hear the end of that, so this year she is looking forward to picking out a formal dress. Youngest DD also wants to buy a nice long dress so I we will probably start looking at Easter dresses.

Having never cruised before, I am still trying to figure out what to bring. It's not that I DON'T want to dress up, I just don't want to drag all kinds of clothes down there with me. That's why we are starting off with the 3 night cruise!:p

I wear a uniform to work everyday...it gets boring!!!!
I have dresses for every night!
BF likes that I schedule dates when we are at home. Lets us remember what is was like when we started out...
So, 4 nights worth of dates should be pretty good!!!

I love dressing up for the cruise. I wear at the very least a sundress for the dinners that are not formal and we go all out for the formal nights. Dressing up for the formal nights reminds me of the old movies of cruises where everyone was dressed to the hilt.

I wear a uniform to work everyday. When I am not at work I wear T-shirt and jeans. I NEVER DRESS UP. This is the first time I have to dress up and I am looking forward to doing so. I have bought dresses I normally wouldn't buy. I cannot wait to wear them and to see how terrific they look on me.

I just bought my formal dress!!! It is a ballgown style with spaghetti straps in blue with silver sparkles. I also bought a dress for my anniversary dinner in Palo, it is a beautiful pink beaded gown, more fitted than the other. I am going to wear my black and white gown I have for semi-formal night. I will most likely wear a dress or fancy pantsuit every night except for Mexicali night- I still need to find something fun for that one. Yippee! It is getting soooo close. Now I just need to keep on my diet and excercise program until then. I need to have extra pounds off so I can eat like a happy little piggy!! LOL

Melissa,

Your dresses sound wonderful I can't wait to see them. I know what you mean about the diet and exercise, I keep thinking about the cruise every morning when I get up to go to the gym.
