Does anyone else just not get Duffy....

We just got back from WDW. My 5 year old thought Duffy was cute. Duffy is cute....but way overpriced! $30 for just the bear and then all the accessories are more. For even $25 I might have bought a Duffy, but $30 for a stuffed animal is high, even for Disney.

I don't get it either. It seems like he was created just to make Disney more money. One more character to sell...

I wonder if those who do not like Duffy because he's not an "original" feel the same way about Elmo on Sesame Street?

I'm not that big of a fan of either of those characters.

Duffy to me is like the transformers or G.I. Joe. Remember those cartoons from the 80's (not the horrible new ones being shown now)? Those cartoons were created after the toys were and were meant just to sell the toys. That's how I feel about Duffy. While he may have a "story," it was created to sell him, not the other way around.

I like the story behind Duffy but for the most part, I'm not thrilled.

I find him pretty easy to ignore however!

Last year I had to search to figure out who Duffy was. For me he was just all of a sudden there, but no clue where he came from. If they had marketed him on Dis channel or someway briefly introduced him as part of disney to those who arent in the know maybe it would make more sense. My kids have no clue, I still dont know the back story so for us, he is just a plain ol' theme park bear not a Disney bear. Sort of like walking into Hershey park and seeing a random cookie instead of a hershey Kiss

i don't dislike Duffy. i'm more ambivalent.

DD, however, thinks he's the cutest thing. so, yes, she got a Duffy bear (got her grandma to buy it our first day there) and some outfits. plus, we had to go to the Duffy M&G. if it makes her happy, then so be it.

Same here - I don't get it. When I was a kid Kraft peanut butter was sometimes sold in these BIG bear-shaped jars -- that's what Duffy reminds me of. Not exactly Disney.

I'm still not over the fact that every can see Mr Snufalupagus yet... he's was Bird's secret friend when I watched and no one else ever saw him so they thought he made him up!

This made me LOL....I was just in a conversation about him that he was an imaginary character! I, too, am still not over it that either!

I'm not a fan, either. I am disappointed to learn that you get a Duffy instead of a mask at WS! The mask and all the fun tags were a highlight for my son and he was really looking forward to doing it next trip. I guess we'll be buying a passport this time.

I should have mentioned that they still stamp the stick from the country and write on the back of the mask. Several countries wrote the girls names in the native language (China, Japan and Morocco comes to mind) and several drew their country flag as well.

I totally get why some people are annoyed about Duffy, but I personally love him. If they suddenly removed him I wouldn't be heartbroken, but since he is there now I intend to enjoy him every trip!

I don't like him. Disney was trying to make him the next big thing, but that didn't happen.

I agree. it doenst seem to fit the disney theme to me at all. Just looks like a standard teddy bear...maybe if he was "disney-fide" or something? (Meaning if he resembled the other disney type characters)

Example:

This is a NHL logo for the Mighty ducks and it still has the Disney "feel."

To me it feels like just a weak way of trying to squeeze money out of the disney money tree....could have done it in a better way i say.

My opinion alone.

IMHO, he is like the Poochie character from the Simpson's Itchy and Scratchy Show. I am not a fan, but don't really care too much either way.

You should she him "live"!! Talk about creepy. He was a character in Epcot last August when I went and his line was the only one empty. Just him and his poor handler.

I don't get him either. Just a poor "build a bear" wannabe IMO.

I don't hate him, just show a real lack of imagination IMO with all the cool disney characters to go with they come up with a bear?

Pooh as a live teddy bear works because he's Pooh. Duffy just seems creepy with barely any lines. It's as if he's evil

I LOVE Duffy. I have been collecting "duffy" stuff (before he had a name) since the mid 90's, maybe even earlier. He used to be called the "Disney Bear" back in the day. He was always Mickey's teddy, but the whole "Minnie made him for Mickey's sea voyage" was built in to go with the DisneySea theme. I even had a book in the 80s or 90s with Mickey sleeping with him every night.

I may be ion the minority here but I don't have any problem with Duffy. I think he's kinda cute. I loved it when EPCOT first introduced Figment & he wasn't attached to any disney movie or character and I love Figment too! I kinda think of Duffy as something similar to that.
