Does anyone else have this problem...Disney overshadowing OTHER vacations?

My family used to be like that too, but that's until we started organizing group trips. We took 27 people down two years ago and smaller groups before and after that. I go to lots of places, but I love WDW and going to DL when I visit my friends in CA. It's the best. Who cares what others say? They obviously don't know the fun and joy that is Mickeys house!

That's why I LOVE coming to these boards!!! I am so sick and tired of everyone else telling me that there are so many other places to go and don't you get bored going so much??!!?!?

My DH and I were engaged in Disney right in front of Cindy's Castle during fireworks and then planned an entire Disney-themed wedding. For a split second (probably a week) we were planning a honeymoon in Aruba. Then we thought about and booked Disney. Also, I get the comments about the fact that some people haven't taken their children (16 yo) to Disney EVER and I'm bringing my 18 mo. old this summer for her first trip - I told her I'm sorry I waited this long!!!!! We were also thinking about going to Myrtle Beach for a week this summer, but I wasn't into the planning, so my DH said, let's just go to Disney because you're obviously not happy with these plans and I'm now a stay-at-home Mom who doesn't go out much, so SC should've looked good to me!!! LOL

I wanted to take my son to Disney for the longest time. I really couldn't afford it the first time that we went, but I had such fond memories of going there when I was a kid. (I believe my first visit was the year it opened.) I was only 4, but I remember it. I knew that my son, too, would remember a trip to Disney.

We keep going back and discovering new things to do, and the service is always unmet. I don't think anyone dislikes Disney, but obviously people either get it or don't. I definitely have raised a few eyebrows about my frequent trips there. "Go somewhere else," "why not the Grand Canyon?" "How about Europe," "It's not the real world," etc., etc., etc.

I would really love to travel to other places, too. It's hard to squeeze them in!
(money-wise, too) I think Disney is exceptionally affordable--both to get to and once you're their--especially thanks to Mousesavers!

Overshadowing other vacations? WHAT other vacations? I can't even get myself to think about going other places -but Disney World- now! LOL
Granted it's only been less than 6mo since my first EVER Disney vacation- so that might have something to do with it. Perhaps I'll chill out about it at some point- but for now... I can't even begin to imagine going somewhere else. Maybe I'm trying to make up for all those years of wanting to go and never being able to (childhood and early adulthood also) :)

I used to be like this but maybe because we've been so often now I'm willing to check out other places in between trips to WDW. I expect that I'll always go to WDW but I don't want to limit myself, there's too many other things I enjoy too such as history and mountains. We also try to spend each Thanksgiving in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and I'll NEVER give that up. Plus, I fell madly in love with San Diego last year and want to go back SO bad. (Of course we'll visit DL too while we're there. :) )

I wish that I could just travel as much as I want to. :(

Travel is my passion. I have been to Europe several times ( cheaper than a disney vacation LOL ). I have a mental list of all the places I want to visit. And yet, I keep using up vacation time and money to return to Disney again and again. I often wonder what it is that makes us do this. Certainly it can not be explained to anyone who just doesn't "get it". Basically, if they have to ask, there is no way to explain it to them.

Reading these messages has made it a bit more clear. It is, as one person said, The place where you KNOW you will have a good time.

I completely agree that it is the place that we know we will have a good time. Disney is normally so accomidating for all sorts of things. It deals with all the handicapped issues, and allergy issues for the resturants. It is the place were I have gone I do not know how many times and there are still things I have not done, or really want to see and do again. Not to mention the resturants that make me beg my husband at least weekly to take me back soon. It is a place full of Pixie Dust where people for the most part actually treat other people well. And there are exceptions and problems here and there, but almost always there is so much more good than bad.

We went to NJ 2 weeks before christmas and spent most of our time in the hotel room, watching a 3.5inch screen on a protable DVD player. We ended up cutting the trip short, cause we were just bored. At Disney I know I will not be bored. Most nights the only way I sleep is just out of pure exhaustion. We LOVE Disney.

THe funny thing is that the people that say are you going there again ,are the same people who go to the same cottage every year for their entire life. They never go anywhere else but dont understand going to WDW.every year.

I'm feeling much better after reading all of this!:D I love going to WDW, and I don't see much point in going anywhere else right now. (Although we do go to the beach every summer) My ds is 4, and we know that in WDW we are assured of a good time. When we go to the beach all there is to do is "go to the beach"---or the pool, or to play goofy golf. When we go to WDW, we NEVER run out of possibilities! I know dh is ready for a little break from WDW, since he decided to pass on this next trip. He promises to be ready for October '04 though!:D :D :D

We are leaving on Saturday for a trip to the Outer Banks, visiting my husband's family. I'm looking forward to it, but not in the way I was when we planned our first Disney trip with the kids last November. Back then, I had our bags packed WEEKS ahead of time *LOL*. I read everything I could get my hands on! I planned for months! This vacation, however, I find myself reading these boards and dreaming about our next vacation to Disney this December...when I should be cleaning the house and taking care of last minute "to dos". I think I'll even bring along my Passporter and my Unofficial Guide to read by the beach!
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in my obsession!:earsboy:

What?!?! Other vacations?? I don't think I know what you mean!

DH and I love WDW and try to go at least once a year now. We do love to travel in general though and love to see new places and people. This year we went to WDW in March for a short 4 night trip. We are going back the last week of August for 8 nights to use the AP's once more and look at some houses. In October we are going back to Mexico for the 3rd time. We love Mexico and there is a LOT to do there. We will be staying 7 nights in Playa del Carmen and this trip we are going to Cozumel to snorkel and swim with the dolphins one day, www.xcaretcancun.com a wonderful nature park another day, and the ruins at Coba and a Mayan village another day. The rest of the time we will swim, relax on the beach, and eat:) To be honest I am looking forward to that trip as much as the WDW one in August. :Pinkbounc

My husband just announced that he is going to "force" me  to go to Europe for our anniversary.Fine with me,I'll go to Europe for our anniversary (BIG SACRIFICE ;) ) and I'll move our Disney trip to december :teeth: .

Europe isn't so bad.

You can go to EuroDisney. :smooth:

Funny, I just got back from grocery shopping with my youngest DD5. She saw a popcorn package with Nemo on it and begged for it. I said no, there is no toy in it and I want another brand of popcorn. Then we started talking about Disney and how much we love going there!! After we checked out I started to feel bad because we are going to Dollywood this summer and I don't want my kids to think it is "second-rate!" I know it is NOT Disney but it is nice and my kids have not been there. We are also going to explore nature and the beautiful Smoky Mountains! On the way home I started telling her all about the great time we are going to have on our trip this August! (Meanwhile, I am trying to talk DH into letting us drive to Orlando for the week after Pigeon Forge. We are not really planning to go back to Disney until March 04 but I don't know if I can wait that long!)

Maybe so but I can't think of a better place to eat. I love New Orleans food!

Well, I guess I would draw a line between a vacation WITH the kids and WITHOUT the kids. We have a terrible time getting excited about taking the kids to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Washington D.C., etc., etc. Which is really a shame. Those were the trips we took in our youth, but now our kids compare it to WDW. Can't blame them, but I wish they would want a change of pace and appreciate our natural wonders, history, etc. But.....we always seem to end up at WDW.

Now WITHOUT kids, we have a wonderful time in Vegas, New Orleans, Chicago, etc. But these are generally 2-4 day trips. We have just as much fun (sometimes more) on these trips compared to WDW. But that's why I separate the two, they're different experiences.

I know what you're saying. I couldn't wait to eat when I got back home from NYC.

Huh? What other vacations? Why would I want to go anywhere else? ;) :teeth:
