Does anyone else have this problem...Disney overshadowing OTHER vacations?

I consider "other vacations" to be simply ways of occupying my time till it's time for the next Disney trip!!

You've heard the saying "when I grow up I want to be a ....." well, "when my kids grow up I want to..... move to Florida and work at disney!" lol! I tell my DH constantly that when I retire, I'm going to work at the MK, then I can spend every day there!!! :teeth: I'm a disney freak!!

I've been a meeting planner for about 15 years. I been in 37 states, 10 countries, umpteen hotels and resorts....you get the picture. Sounds exciting and glamorous, but the reality is that it's hard work, mostly away from your home and loved ones...in places with people that you normally wouldn't speak with much less invite to your home. Don't get me wrong...I know I'm very lucky in my job, but I work for a company now where exotic is better. At least at my old job I used to get Disney trips....none of the other planners wanted to go....so they'd say...hey, let's ask Penny to go. One year I got to go 7 times! But now, it's exotic trips to Mexico (three times in six months)....no Disney trips for this group!

Having said all that.....besides my love of disney, I love DW because I can get on a plane, be there in a few hours, go high brow or low brow depending on budget and whim. Go from a burger stand to a 5 star restaurant in the same day, go shopping, lay in bed, go to a theme park, go clubbing, be in a crowd or alone.....whatever I want and I don't even have to drive to get anywhere unless I want to! You all know what I mean. It's all there in ONE place and if I need an exotic fix (YEAH RIGHT), I'll stop by the Poly for a Pina Colada.

I've been to Disney so many times I lost count and no two vacations have been the same. So, yes, I could get on a plane tomorrow and go to Paris, but just not in the mood for the plane ride...language barrier....etc. etc. etc.

I guess I'm just getting culturally challenged in my middle years. Give me Disney or leave me home!!!!

Well, I compare everything to Disney, and nothing is ever as good! In my mind you can't beat the combination of different things Disney has to offer and the quality of the resorts, and the cleanliness of the parks!

First-- LACCEMOUSE-- we just rented a cabin in the Smokies from 4/22-4/30/03. We also did the Dollywood thing (we compared each and every item to Disney the whole time!!). We weren't as happy there. We compared the bathrooms (more run-down than Disney), the Hamburgers (not as good as Disney), the rides (can't hold a torch), just everything we compared to Disney (kind of ruined it for ourselves I guess). We only went there because we decided we needed a "relaxing" vacation, and we already were doing 3, ten day Disney trips in 18 monhts. Let's face it, when I come home from Disney I need another vacation I am so wore out. But.. I wouldn't trade the memories and magic for the world.

We too travel a lot (5-6 vacations a year), and I am finding more and more that I long for Disney only trips. We find ourselves comparing everything to Disney. About the only other destination that seems to get me half as excited right now is NYC (and we have been there in the past, but I love that city!).

I want to see other places besides WDW...CA, Japan and Paris and I would only go there to be at Disneyland. We are going in June to WDW and I haven't even left and I can't wait to go back. I have no desire to go anywhere else. I love Disney!!

When I think of somewhere else I want to go I try to figure how can I still get in a Disney trip. Dh could go once every 5 years and be fine with it but I want to go atleast once a year. We have been to Cancun before and had a great time, I would love to go back. We have also been to Hawaii which I LOVED--who wouldnt?
THe big draw back for Hawaii is its a 7 hours flight vs 2 hours to Disney. Airfare is cheaper to Disney. So so far its looking like Disney is pretty economical--lol.
Plus my 3 yr old tells me all the time he wants to go see Mimi Mouse (Mickey) and he sure wont find him in Cancun or Hawaii!

People at work, church, etc. have been asking me for the last several weeks, "Are you going to Disneyworld this year?" They know we go alot. ;)

We're going to Chicago this summer. I'm looking forward to it, but it's not the same as a trip to WDW. When I get uptight about things at work or home, I just think about our next trip & I feel better! :bounce:

DW works in an office with about 15 people. They're all very close. One of the men that works there is addicted to WDW too. The others give both of them a hard time about always going to WDW.

Just caught this post and had to reply. We had our summer vacation camping trip booked to Niagra Falls and Toronto, but cancelled due to SARS. So asked the family, how about Maine, Vermont, DC...they reply how about Fort Wilderness. Well, we went last summer and the summer before and the summer before...how about something different? No way. Yes, we all would like to try something different, but we aren't willing to give up Disney for it.:earsboy:
