Does anyone else have this problem...Disney overshadowing OTHER vacations?

I have to say, I just returned from an awesome trip to NYC, but everytime I would hear the subway engineer say "Stand clear of the closing doors," I would say "Por favor...blah blah blah" (can't spell Spanish here!)
And then I got all excited when I would see Disney commercials.
And don't get me started on paying $100 just to see the Lion King on Broadway!!
Am I the only sick one here? Please say I'm not because all my friends and family seem to think so!

You are not the only - where else offers the combination of what Disney does? Either people get it or they don't and certainly the people who have not been there should not be commenting....

LOL on the subway doors - I think the same thing on the commuter train out of Tornonto

Thanks

You're not, people think we're crazy to keep going back to wdw. We take other vacations but I look forward to the wdw ones the most.

WDW is the only vacation, that when it is over:

"I'm not glad to be home."

We are going to the Outerbanks in July for a week... do you know what I will be doing.... planning out my December trip to Disney!!!

We flew into Orlando this past January for a 7 day Carnival cruise out of Pt. Canaveral. The cruise was great, absolutely loved it, BUT leaving the ship and going directly to MCO for the flight home was torture. To be that close and not go to Disney - Never again! This January we are doing a 5 day cruise out of Tampa and then 3 days in Disney. :teeth:

We just returned from a quick long weekend at the beach which was a spur of the moment thing. I kept comparing the hotel to POFQ. It seemed everytime I asked the front desk for something the answer was no whereas at WDW it would have been yes. I guess what really got me was having to sign out towels for the pool. I was so mad!! I kept wanting to say they don't make me do that at Disneyworld.:earsboy:

You're DEFINITELY not alone!! I'm exactly the same way. I'm very tired of family, friends, acquaintances telling me, "there's a great big world out there you know"!! I do agree with them. My dilemma is that I KNOW I will have a good time at Disney so I don't have much problem paying for it. However, I do worry about going to other, expensive places, and not have a good time. I'd like to try an all-inclusive for our next vacation. I've heard wonderful stories and horrible stories about such vacations. *sigh* I told dh that we should go on TWO trips a year - one to Disney and one somewhere else. That way, I won't feel sad going somewhere else because I'll know we'll be back in Disney soon enough! The problem is.........you guessed it.........MONEY! LOL A girl can dream can't she? ;)

I understand. We can't seem to find the motivation to visit anywhere else. At WDW, I know I'll have a good time and it feels like going home to us. If I have to drop alot of money on a trip, I want it to be a good trip - we're guaranteed that at WDW.:D

I feel the same way. Everytime we leave for a trip and we leave early in the morning (like 3:00 A.M. or something) I think of Disney because we drive early in the morning.

Last summer we also went to NYC too except i saw the Lion King!:teeth:

We ALWAYS feel that way ! We normally go to Vegas once a year too, but we just never get excited like we do for our Disney trips ! Now, we are thinking of a 3-4 day vacation in September.. We have kicked around Puerto Rico, New Orleans, Vegas.... most likely... we'll be back in WDW !!!!

:D

I hate that everyone says, "Why do you keep going back there?" As if there is any other place that gives you such a bang for your buck and makes everyone in our family happy. We're up to 2 trips to Disney a year (from NY) and then we have our peaceful Key West trip too (which I can only do knowing that we've just returned from Disney and will be going back in a few months). When we went to Tampa last April we went over to Sea World for a day since my wife loves zoos, aquariums, etc. It was so hot that we left around 3pm. There was no way I was passing WDW on the ride back without stopping so we took in a few sites at MGM and had our first Fantasmic experience. Nothing more incredible. It blew Sea World out of the water - get it!?!? - out of the water. Ha Ha! We'll be back to Disney this July and probably next Christmas!

I feel the same way. We go on plenty of vacations that are just wonderful but I always have some sort of WDW calculations going on in the back of my head for making a PS, calling for this, buying that. It is really pathetic! I just got back 3 weeks ago and am counting down my next trip. Only 20 weeks from today! I miss that place even before I leave it if that makes sense. I hate when I'm midway through my WDW vacation because I know it's half over. What a pessismist. Right now our vacation plans are we have 3 different weeks at the ocean, weekend trip to DC to see Jerry Seinfeld, going to Atlantic City this weekend to gamble, and a few other things here and there. And all I'm thinking about is: well, by the time of our last week at the ocean then it will only be 8 more weeks until WDW, or when I'm at my 2nd trip to the ocean I need to make PSs for this or that for WDW. The TV commercials drive me crazy as I just want to live at the Polynesian! I can't think of anything else! I also can't wait to get these other trips over with so I can start tossing things in my suitcases as I think of them for my October WDW trip! I think I need therapy! LOL!

This is how bad it got for me. I'm driving to Florida to find a job and move permanantly, just to be close to the House of Mouse.
I first decided to dream of moving to Florida after I was laid off from my job after 11 years (that was 2 years ago). I received my Disney Magazine with the information for Walt's 100th and I said I should just move to Florida (That was May of 2001). Took me 2 years to get it all organized but I'm on my way on June 7th. My family bought me an annual pass as a going away present. And they want to know, how long before I have to get my fix. I'll be staying at their Florida home, 15 minutes from Main Gate until I get settled. They figure it will not go to waste.

We're the same way. That's why I love coming here so much. Everywhere else I go, in the "real" world, people ask me why we're going to WDW again. Here, I know that everyone understands exactly why we're going again!

We've pretty much given up going anywhere else on vacation. We end up comparing it to WDW, and we end up disappointed. Maybe if we had the money to go to WDW and then to someplace else too, it would be okay. But as it is now, wherever else we go, I just end up thinking, "I could've used that money to go to WDW!"

We do love going to the beach, but we're very lucky because we have family in coastal towns between WDW and here in Kentucky. So we just visit family either before or after our WDW trips to enjoy the beach without missing out on a WDW trip!

I know what you are all talking about. We try to do WDW every other year to keep it fresh for us, but it is torturous. This happens to be our off- year and we are going to Cedar Point, Ohio.... but I constantly find myself checking rates for WDW for next year. I feel like this summer's trip is already shadowed by WDW.

I feel the same way. And the weird thing is, so does my DH. We can't think of anywhere we'd rather spend a week of our vacation time than at WDW. Believe me, we have tried to think of other places to go on vacation, but we always decided on WDW. People think we're strange, but, who cares?!

Nope, not me, I guess I'm not "Disney enough" for these boards. I've been to Vegas twice in the last couple of years, took a San Diego trip and have Washington DC planned for two weeks this summer. I haven't had any thoughts of "I wish they were Disney".

However, I should add that we do a Disney trip every year, as well as these trips, so maybe that's the reason (not WDW, being West Coasters, most of our trips are to DL)

What I'm having fun with is planning 4 trips: DL in July with dh and kids, Hawaii in Sept. with dh (he won free airline tickets), Washington DC in August with the kids, and WDW next August, 2004, with my family.

Well, my family thinks I'm crazy. My fiance and I are going to honeymoon in Disney next year. Some people just look at us funny when we tell them that. Alot of people say are you sure, don't you want to go somewhere tropical ? Nope, I love Disney. I grew up taking family vacations here almost every other year , and now I want to share it all with my fiance. And besides, this isn't just any trip, we'll be staying for 10 nights at BWV and AKL. When I tell poeple that they just nod and smile and say that sounds nice. Some people just don't get it .

We feel the exact same way and get the same response from some of our family. "Why are you going there again?" People can't understand how happy it makes us to go there. We just love everything about it. We got married in Las Vegas a few years ago so we always talk about going back there to spend some time as there are hotels we want to stay at etc. But when it comes down to having time and money for one vacation - WDW wins hands down EVERY time. There is just nowhere else I want to go and I know that I would spend the whole time thinking about what I could be doing if I was at WDW.
