Wash the sheets off the bed??? I was reading that bed bugs have become a big problem at hotels recently....Just wondering if anyone washes the bedding when they get to their resorts?? :confused3
Thanks

Bed bugs live in the mattress as well as the sheets. If the room is really infested, washing the sheets won't do a lot of good. I've stayed many times in WDW hotels and have not had a problem with bed bugs. You might be over stressing. ;)

From what I understand bed bugs live in the mattresses and on the headboards. I really don't think washing the sheets will do any good. I do however rip the bedspred off the bed as soon as I get to any hotel.

I do the same thing. Those bedspreads are nasty!

Saw the Dateline about this new re-emergence of these creatures. Have had several incidents where we live with people who inadvertantly brought them home..in the luggage and had to fumigate their homes. They lost many of their items. Furniture and carpeting and still actually had them. They don't discriminate..dumps or deluxe ....they have reappeared due to foreign travel. Apparently they have lived quite nicely in foreign countries. Where as in the US they were done away with due to the chemicals we used back in the 50's. Their appearance here is from travel to and from foreign countries where they were brought back in..either on the travelers or in their luggage.
Dateline showed several hotels where there were bugs. You never can tell. They suggested pulling off the head boards..and showed how easily that is done. Check in the seam where the wood is. Check the corners of the mattress. They also said to look on the walls of the room for spots ...that is where a bug might have been after it fed...and the stain is probably a blood stain. They also recommend that you not put your clothing in the drawers, as they are in the crevices. They recommend you take the bedspread off the bed..as they are not cleaned after each guest..nor are the blankets for that matter. Put them in the closets..but not near your hanging clothes.
Personally..I'd check the headboards..and the mattresses..probably remove the comforter..ask for a new blanket(although who really knows if you'll get a newly cleaned one anyway). That really isn't too much of a pain..if it gives you the piece of mind that you don't have to worry about these creatures feasting on you at 4 a.m. Don't ask me why..but apparently they don't come out until very late at night.

Jeeze..sorry about going on like that...just talking about it can make you itchy! My kids went to Philadelphia recently and my son checked the head boards in the hotel they were in...and he felt much better, and slept soundly for doing it.

:goodvibes Ohh this sounds like a good idea, I haven`t in the past but definately will this time :wizard: ! Thanks! :thumbsup2

If you put the bedspread in the closet, do the maids just put it back on every morning?? Or do they continue to make your bed with just the sheets and blanket?

I put it on the side of the bed and they rarely put it back on the bed. If they do and I take it off the next day, they get the hint.

This actually makes me feel a little weird about travelling. :scared:

I take my own sheets and pillows(flannel). Yes....I know I am weird but it makes me so much more comfortable. :p

I don't do this for "cleanliness" but b/c my son sleeps better with HIS flannel sheets and pillows. :)

Well, now that I'm itching, I'm reaffirming my love for my fifth wheel!! I can tell you for SURE there aren't any bedbugs in that bad boy! As I don't sleep in hotels, don't travel without it and even bought it a new mattress!

WASH THE SHEETS???? Come on....I literally throw my suitcases in the room, look around for a sec and OUT THE DOOR to the Parks.... :goodvibes

NOOOO washing of sheets, pulling back of bedspreads, no spraying the room with lysol or putting the remote in a baggie, or looking hi and lo for BUGS....aahhhh...there was another Thread about people S T E R I L I Z I N G their rooms.... :sad2:

I am in agreement. My germ-and-bug-o-phobic friends are sick all of the time. We are rarely sick and I think this is partly due to our being more tolerant to things because we don't over-sterilize. I have never worried or thought about bed bug infestations and I am not about to start now.

OMG, I'm on vacation, I don't want to wash ANYTHING! Seriously, if things like this worry you, stay home. :lmao:

When we were at WDW last time, I saw the mousekeeping carts. They had fresh bedspreads and blankets for the rooms. The bedspreads were wrapped in plastic, kinda like dry cleaner bags. I am pretty sure mousekeeping changes ALL the linens after a guest departs for home.

I am not worried at WDW about bugs or germs. I have boys. I quit worrying about germs after DS #1 started getting into everything 17 years ago.

Nope, I do give them and the floor of the tub and shower a blast of lysol. That's about it.

Before I go to bed that first night the bedspread comes off and I do examine the sheets, because in the past the sheets did not look like they were even changed. If this is the case I do call mousekeeping and have them change the bed. This just happened last Sept. at POFQ. It was late, just got back from the park and I called mousekeeping to come change my sheets. When she came she asked what the problem was. I said they looked dirty. She changed them with no problem and I did give her a nice tip.

Wow, I have OCD and I don't even do any of this stuff. I don't bring lysol or anything like that with me, and I actually sleep under the bedspreads (I really think they change them after each guest). I unpack and that's about it. I do pack all of our clothes in big freezer bag like things though, but I put them in the drawers (still in the bags.

I hear ya! My neighbor is a clean freak. She's always cleaning and disenfecting everything in her home. She also loads up on vitamins. They are always sick over there. Some kind of bug, cold, respitory thing, flu thing, it's amazing.
Me on the otherhand, I keep what you would call a "tidy house". I don't go nuts cleaning everything to an inch of its life everyday, but its certainly not a pit either. I can't remember the last time a cold went through this house. Yes, the kids got a stomach bug but thats probably the most they got in the last couple of years.
I honestly believe there is a correlation between the more that people disenfect the more they get sick.
JMHO of course......
