Does anyone do this when you check into your room???

The industrial washers/disinfectants that they use in the hotel laundry are probably a lot stronger than using the resort washers and Tide! Plus, what if you wash them, and then mousekeeping changes them again? You could spend your whole vacation doing wash. I won't be cleaning anything on vacation! (Except myself and my kids, lol.)

The only thing I do is inspect the sheets before I crawl under the covers.

WASH THE SHEETS???? Come on....I literally throw my suitcases in the room, look around for a sec and OUT THE DOOR to the Parks.... :goodvibes

NOOOO washing of sheets, pulling back of bedspreads, no spraying the room with lysol or putting the remote in a baggie, or looking hi and lo for BUGS....aahhhh...there was another Thread about people S T E R I L I Z I N G their rooms.... :sad2:

Naaa... We have been many many times and NO WORRIES!!! No illnesses to report either RESORT or CRUISE.... :teeth:

Now don't get me wrong I have my issues (small places and locked doors) but don't get me paranoid about DISNEY....pleaseeee....pretty please!!! :goodvibes
agreed here also, this is what is causing such a problem in the world today....by being TO CLEAN! All the kids allergies etc!

I have to agree some of the others here and say that some of this "germ phobia" is over the top. You're going to take the fun out of your vacation and for the most part, your life, by worrying about this. WDW can't afford to have an outbreak of bed bugs or critters and probably checks for this all the time. Could you imagine the damage to their business if they got sloppy and allowed this to happen? With the internet and media today, this would be a disaster. So I'm not going to worry to much about it. The rooms always looked clean to me and I do commercial cleaning for a living. Go to the parks or the resort pool, have fun and enjoy life while you have it.

I would have never thought of this . I am more on the dump side where we throw our bags in the room and go. We do push the bedspread down.

I heard of one Psycho mom who wipped the nose of chip and dale wiht a wet nap before her kids touched them.

I never let the kids sleep under the bedspreads at hotels and allways check the sheets. I do carry clorox wipes to wipe toliet seats and bathtub out

This takes about 3 mins and we are off :goodvibes

I hear ya! My neighbor is a clean freak. She's always cleaning and disenfecting everything in her home. She also loads up on vitamins. They are always sick over there. Some kind of bug, cold, respitory thing, flu thing, it's amazing.

I honestly believe there is a correlation between the more that people disenfect the more they get sick.
JMHO of course......

THIS IS MY SISTER EXACTLY..EXACTLY!!! She is PARANOID over the top!!! AND as well she is ALWAYS, I said ALWAYS sick!!!

We take each day as it comes, like you were are tidy BUT we are not sick!!!

My sister is takes a million vitamins, will only touch a restroom door with a napkin or kleenex, is constantly using the PURELL over and over again, never lets ANYONE (even my mom) take a sip from her glass....ahhhh!!!!

I agree. Hotel rooms are for showering and sleeping so I dont have time to worry about bugs and I truely dont see Disney as a dirty place anyways. I just dont feel like stressing when Im on vacation.

Mousekeeping DOES NOT wash all the bedding after a guests leaves. The blankets and comforters are changed on a rotating basis. Not after each guest. While I am not a germ-a-phobe...and not usually paranoid about such things...after seeing this in the news...you bet I will take the extra minute of time it might take to check the room. I 'm not talking about spraying anything or lysoling anything. Just doing a visual check of the bedding and such...as recommended in the Dateline report. Since this is a new re-emergence of these creatures..to just say I'm not going to worry about it because it hasn't been an issue in the past...I think that may be like sticking your head in the sand. While I certainly wouldn't let it deter me from staying at a hotel or resort..and we have ...I would take the minute or two to make sure it was bug free. It's not as if you will catch sight of this sort of thing instantly. A room that might otherwise appear clean..and in an upscale resort may give some a false sense of security, while infact, these creatures do not discriminate..dump or deluxe..it isn't a matter of price. I'm not going in with gloves, mask and a can of lysol...just some basic knowledge of what to look for and how to protect myself and my family from a nasty situation.

Yeah, taking a quick look does make sense before hopping into a community bed, but washing the sheets would not help and neither would Lysol. So, I actually think you make a good point. :)

Ditto! I think we are middle of the road kind of people. I didn't even do this before I had DS, but little kids touch EVERYTHING and while I appreciate that his constant illnesses will build his immunity for later in life if he gets sick at WDW that will suck. Plus I saw that Dateline special and when I heard that the comforters are changed twice a year (industry standard), I just thought EWWWW NASTY!

I'm not going to wash the sheets though. If they look dirty, I'll call mousekeeping and kindly explain my concerns.

My Dsis has a friend that travelled with us ONCE. She had OCD really bad. She wore shoes in the shower and brought her own sleeping bag which she zipped herself into completely everynight. Walking into the hotel with her I thought OMG, the front desk is going to think we have a village staying in our room and will be sneaking people in and sleeping them on the floor. Nope, she had her own bed but the slept in the sleeping bag on top of it. :rolleyes2

We also saw the Dateline report on bedbugs. When we traveled to New Mexico last month, we pulled the headboards off and looked for spots on the walls and seams of the mattress. I would have never done it if I hadn't seen pictures of these bugs on the special. Yuck!

Okay - I'll check for them - and ask for a new room - if I find anything - but how do you pull off the headboard ?

So what you are saying is upon MY family checking out and a NEW family checking IN...DISNEY does NOT change the bedding?? What exactly is your definition of bedding?? SHEETS?? If that is what you are saying...I would like to know where you got that information. :confused3

I work for a hotel company (not Disney). We absolutely change our sheets between guests. Every once in a while a guest is supposed to be staying over, we will make their bed, and then they change their mind and check out. Housekeeping is then instructed to go unmake the bed and put clean sheets on it. Because we are all human and make mistakes, there are times when things don't get communicated correctly (not often) and the sheets wouldn't get changed. It's not supposed to happen, and in our company it rarely happens, but you can see with the above scenario how it does. That is why I always check to make sure the sheets look clean & fresh when I first arrive.

Blankets are cleaned on a regular basis, but bedspreads are not washed quite as often. The main reason is that bedspreads are expensive and if you washed them after every guest you can imagine what they would look like after just a few months, very faded! Think about how often you wash your bedspread at home, probably not very often. Also, most bodily fluids are usually contained within the sheets, not on the blankets and bedspreads. As a matter of fact our housekeepers wear vinyl gloves and we are required by law to treat linens the same as in a hospital environment (hazardous bodily fluid protection required). We use very potent chemicals and extremely hot water to disinfect, so I usually don't worry about the sheets being clean. They are in all likelihood cleaner than my sheets at home!

We currently own 13 hotels and have never once had an incident of bed bugs. All of our hotels have a contract with a pest control company and are inspected and sprayed monthly for insects or rodents. We are in a part of the country where bugs are not a big problem, so I must imagine that WDW resorts do the same thing. As a matter of fact, one of the largest hotel chemical suppliers, Ecolab, also has a hotel pest elimination program that many hotels use. That's not to say that bed bugs don't exist, but if a hotel has a pest elimination program in place, it would be really hard for them to survive.

Our hotels also use a spray disinfectant when a guest checks out. We spray the telephone receivers (bet you never thought of that!), door knobs, light switches, etc...

To be honest, I worrry more about touching the common area hand railings, elevator buttons, door handles, etc. than I do about linens on my hotel bed.

So go ahead everyone, check the sheets and make sure they look clean, but then go ahead and enjoy your room because it's probably cleaner than your house!

To pull it off you will need a crowbar, hammer, some chain, a few screws, a electric drill/ screw gun combo, and a six pack of beer. It doesn't hurt to have some holding clamps and Elmers wood glue either and maybe some wood putty to hide the scratches. Just make sure to put the do not disturb sign on the door and don't panic if you hear the word housekeeping when someone knocks on the door. If you get caught, just say you found it this way but hide your tools first and be prepared to bribe the mousekeeper with a big tip if that excuse doesn't work. :teeth: :lmao: :lmao:
