Stop rewriting history. Jimmy Carter had no opportunities to get the hostages released. The only opportunity he had was to respond militarily and end up with dead hostages. He chose not to do it.

And before you start praising Ronald Reagan as being so tough on the Iranians, it was Ronald Reagan who sold Iran arms for the Iranians intecession with the hostage takers in Beirut. It was called "ARMS FOR HOSTAGES". Ronald Reagan also armed Saddam Hussein. Talk about picking a side and sticking with it. Ronald Reagan worked both sides of the street.

Do a little reading and base your opinions on what really happened rather than on what you think happened.
The facts are the facts. Jimmy Carter was extraordinarily diplomatic. The hostages were held for well over a year during his presidency.

Ronald Reagan said publicly that he wouldn't negotiate and if elected President would go after Iran if the hostages weren't immediately released. The hostages were released less than 24 hours into his presidency.

If you can't figure out that it isn't a coincidence, that those people were released because Iran knew we meant business, then you just don't want to see it.

And I see no reason for President Reagan to have bombed a country that was no longer a problem. We were under no threat from Iran so long as he was President and bombing would have killed people for really no reason at all.

And I had no problem then, and have no problem now with President Reagan helping those lunatics to kill each other. Less work for us. I think it'd be great if we gave all them guns and let them shoot each other. You guys want to have a war? Have at it! It would keep them busy and thin the herd.

I don't have to read about it. I remember it.

You can't make this stuff up.

As an update, there will (supposedly) be no more video confessions aired from Iran on the hostages. What is an interesting development is a question of who is in charge. Apparently, one general of the Republican Guard wants the Brits released because it "has gone too far". Another wants to continue holding them. If it has gone to the highest levels of government it will be worse for the Brits. If the general who wants them released has the power to do, it will be a positive sign. What is clear is that there are divisions within the Iranian government as well as the people themselves. There is a democratic movement brewing in Iran that of course, the Ayatollas stifle at every opportunity.

I'm going to disagree here. IMO, the higher you go in the Iranian government, the better the chance there will be a diplomatic solution. The Iranians have the same nut jobs we have here who are always looking for a chance to fulfill their messianic fantasies over their role in history. I believe that group saw an opportunity and ran with it. The ayatollahs are not suicidal and Achme-whatever is nothing more than a mouthpiece.

Hmmm. And I thought I could never read anything on these boards that would surprise me anymore. Guess I was wrong.

I didn't mean "thin the heard," I meant "thin the herd." I don't know why I typed the "a" in there.

But if people want to kill, let them kill each other! MUCH preferable to having them kill us. Let all the loonies kill each other, then they aren't a problem for everyone else. I still don't see why that was such a problem. And if we got a good deal on oil to boot, well...woo-hoo! Icing on the cake, IMO.

I dont believe them....i do however believe that Ted Kennedy believes them. Its teddies way...its his style.:lmao:

Sheeesh.....ANY response by the US or GB will be picked apart by the left and turned against them. I know...let use the old "sanctions" agaiinst them....that way those sailors will be home in about...ummm, what....35 years??? Or perhaps we can get the UN to bang out one of those powerfull "resolutions".....hey, they worked so well in Iraq, lets try again!!!!

I'm suprised those soldiers are still being detained. I haven't seen much of a response from the US or GB.

You folks are blaming Jimmy Carter today, not Kennedy. Try to keep up.

Who actually believes that our sailors were in Iranian waters?
Rich::

Rosie O'Donnell (a.k.a. Ms. "always blame America first.") I hate to admit it, but every time she opens her mouth, a voice in the back of my head is arguing "boycott Disney" (a.k.a. owner of ABC, the network that is providing that poorly read loudmouth with her soapbox).

sorry.........no coffee yet, my bad!!! And BTW, who is that woman at the bottom of your page??? Keeps giving my nightmares!! Looks like Roz from Monsters Inc.....Wink Wink

Like here in the good ole USA! Think November 2006! ;)

Beachbblanket may have "missed" it.....but if you go by history, that is something you would EXPECT rosie to say!!!! Shes been circling the drain since she BUTCHERED my childhood sweetheart....Betty Rubble. (as in how she is as an actress)

Funny, because she publicly stated quite the opposite. Guess you missed it.

I think it is really sad that you can compare a repressive, punitive regime that thrives of exporting terrorism, rejects the calls from the world to stop their pursuit of a nuclear weapon and diverts attention from it all by kidnapping on the high seas. Even if you say it with a wink, I find it distasteful.

I agree 100% with that.....and as you know i am a Repbulican who leans ever so slightly to the right.....that being said.....now that you agree he is Commander in Cheif of military....LET HIM DO HIS JOB!!!! You may not like the fact he won in 2000 and 2004, but at least we elected a prez with a BACKBONE!!!! Ok, now its time for lunch.....im thinking grilled chicken salad with a raspberry vinagrette dressing.

:rotfl2: RIGHT!!! Cmon, after 2 years of pelosi and company the Republicans can nominate a glass of room temp water...and that glass will destroy whoever is left standing for the dems. 2006 was the BEST thing that could have happened. America is already starting to see the error they made in 06......they have 2 years (which is plenty) to see the dems are.....umm, well to say it politley......"clueless".

Um...Wrong again. She said she believes the GPS. If you hate her guts so much (which is your right), at least try to quote her correctly.

Funny, because she publicly stated quite the opposite. Guess you missed it.

Really? I very much look forward to your explaining the following DIRECT QUOTE from Ms ODonnell. It's on her website, at: http://www.rosie.com/blog/page/2/ (the quote below is towards the bottom of that page).

""False flag operations are covert operations conducted by governments which are designed to appear as if they are being carried out by other entities. The British did it on purpose into Iranian waters ."

Bottom line: Rosie has publicly stated she believes the Iranians, and has now gone even further, implying that the supposed "intrusion" was actually by U.S. forces.

Can we all say "the world according to another card-carrying member of the Long Island Hall of Infamy" (the one founded by Amy Fisher and Joey Buttaffuco?)
