DH had bloodwork done saturday morning, at 11 am this morning I got a phone call asking for dh, it was the doctors office telling me to ask dh to call and make an appointment because the doctor wants to see him to discuss the results. I know they couldn't tell me but I also know they don't call unless something is seriously wrong. Of course I knew his cholesterol is a problem and I called him to let him know. He called the doctor and sure enough, the doctor told him his cholesterol is high to 329.
I knew it had to be bad but why did I get so scared when I got the phone call?? Anyway dh HAS to change his ways or he will follow his family trait and die young.

:( Im sorry they did that to you I hate that!!

Hope dh gets better.

Wow, that is high. I have the opposite problem and have a hard time keeping my cholestrol level up. I pray he can change his ways and get healthy. With his doctor's help and exercise and diet, he should be able to over come the family odds.

Prayer and pd sent from out west.

Yikes....that would be scary knowing their practice. Good luck to him and you Olga!!!! GOOD THOUGHTS COMING TO BOTH OF YOU!!!!

I can understand how you felt about the phone call. Did the doctor say anything about putting him on medication? I've been on Zocor about a year now. My doctor didn't even really recommend it, she just wrote out a prescription for it and handed it to me. At first I was surprised she didn't talk to me about changing my diet and getting more exercise, but she is heavier than I am so that was probably why. :D

If I remember correctly, my cholesterol was about 279 (it had been 236 a couple years before) and after being on Zocor for 3 months it was down to 176. I hope your husband will be able to get his down soon.

Does your DH take Lipitor, Zocor or one of the other cholesteral lowering drugs? That would be a step in the right direction, at least for now. My cardio wanted me on one ASAP to get it lowered and then go from there as far as diet, exercise, etc., go.

Good luck!

My husband got his lipids undercontrol eating a controlled carbohydrate diet. It has made an amazing difference in his lipids and blood sugar.

Sorry the doctor's office frightened you. Good luck with this sweetie.

I got that same phone call about 5 years ago. I had been to the doctor for lesions on my skin, which he finally had biopsed. Turns out I had ERUPTIVE XANDOMA, which means there was so much fat in my blood that it was trying to come out of my skin!

My cholesterol was 1,189!!!!! When I went into the doctor after they called me, he said he was surprised I was alive.

I've been on medication ever since Zocor, now Advicor and Tricor. Also have high blood sugar and because of high triglycerides, I've had two serious cases of pancreatitis which put me in the hospital for a month and on an IV at home for 4 months!

It's nothing to toy with. I try to watch what I eat and, hopefully, along with the medicine, your DH can do the same.

Thank you for all the advice, honestly dh's cholesterol used to be 385 , I believe the doctor put him on Lipitor ( I remember seeing that med at home ) but I don't know why dh stopped taking it.
He finally after I whined at him , switched to my doctor and had bloodwork done ( time for a physical anyway ) and that's the phone call I got today.
The problem is he works in an office and he barely exercises, he feels with no energy when he gets home ( that's because he doesn't do anything to get any energy ) and top it off he's a VERY picky eater.
I can't help him if he does not want to help himself, he has to make it a point to at least exercise more , that alone will bring up his energy.
There's going to be a very serious talk here tonight, I feel he's a hearttack waiting to happen.
His parents both died young, his mother of Emphysema and his father of congestive heart failure , both of them just last year.
If anyone has anymore suggestions or advice , I would really appreciate it.

TC I have the same problem as you do, my cholesterol is only 156 which the doctor says it's low and one of the weirdest things he's ever seen. I guess it's genetics and the fact that I'm always moving doing something.

My very best for your hubby, Olga. {{Hugs}}. I take Zocor and it does lower mine quite a bit. Hoping treatment works for him as well.

Olga, the only thing I would add to this is that some people just have high cholesterol, even with diet and exercise and, they NEED the medication. If nothing else, get on him about taking the meds! It works for my Dad and MIL.

Thank you all again.
I have been reading about Atkins diet and I can see that this could be beneficial for him and for me too, I'm going to try to change a bit what we eat at home and how and see how it works, I know the doctor is giving him a prescription of I don't know what yet.
I'm trying very hard to convince him to do something , also to quit smoking ( he smokes almost 2 packs a day ) and if he starts taking care of himself he won't end up like his parents and his grandparents did.
I know that nagging at him does not help but at this point I don't know what else to do. I had planned on buying him a bike for his birthday in May so we can all take bike rides as a family, I hope he takes us up on that offer.
