Funny you posted this. Just today I made the decision to ditch the written ledger.

What's a checkbook? Seriously, I carry an old ratty check in my wallet in case I need it but I'm betting I write one check a year if that much. I do balance the checkbook at work but it's on the computer.

Rare to find anyone with a cheque book Down Under these days.

I wasn't aware they were still a thing with credit cards and pay wave.

We don't have cheque books, well we do but rare. I think people would fall over in shock if someone wanted to pay with a cheque.

We have credit and debit cards. and use paywave.

I don't even know where our checkbook is. We do everything online.

Haven't had a chequebook since I can't remember when. I check our balances several times a day with the app so if money went missing, I'd know within a few hours.

checks are still pretty cool, I could walk away with a Mercedes Benz , write a check to pay for it in total, and just have to pay the 35 dollar over draft

'Catch me if you can' ;)

Even 20 years ago when I still wrote a lot a checks, I rarely physically balanced the checkbook. When the monthly statement came in, I'd glance at it and say, "looks OK."

Bank statements are online now, but I still don't keep track of the dozens of monthly debit purchases or ATM withdrawals. Just look at the balance to make sure it looks reasonable.

I might write 4 or 5 checks a year now for miscellaneous things.

this is so me

I keep track of all my accounts with Quicken. I very seldom use checks, but, I do use Debit cards constantly. I get the receipt and as soon as I get home I record it in Quicken. That allows me to break it down based on my own expense categories. For example, Vacations, Lunches, Misc., Medical, Car repair or upkeep. It is a simple matter to do the reconciliations every month and kind of fun as well. But, to answer your question, I do use the log to write in the checks that I physically write, but, that only is one or so a month and it's only to remind me what the checks were for.

Yes I write it all down. I still write checks for birthdays, baptisms, grad parties and the like. In fact today my niece cashed two checks one from March! and one from June. Somehow I must've added the March check back in. I made a mad dash to the bank today to add more $$ so nothing would bounce. We have a lot of bill pay stuff coming out of there.

And I have kids in school so I am always writing checks for this and that for them. If I use a credit card on their site I have to pay a fee, I'm too cheap for that!

I've heard people say that no one writes checks anymore but that not's entirely true. Being in a service business most of our payments come in check form.

yep there are reasons to write a check, I think some people try to act more hip then they are, lol
