Do you use packing cubes? What are the benefits?

I use them, and love them. I learned to use them when we took a trip around California, last year, and were in a different hotel every night. I used to use the compression bags that you can roll up or lay on, but I find those are not convient when you can't unpack completely and something you want is on the bottom.

I roll my clothes, and put all slacks/capris in one cube, all tops in another, etc. The only thing I did not put in a cube for our California trip was my lightweight coat.

I also use the packing cubes when we go to Disney, or any place else that I am staying long enough to unpack. I'm taking them on our 4 night Disney cruise next month. I simply take my packed cubes out of the suitcase and put them in a drawer. I take out what I want to wear for the next day and put back in what I have worn. I always carry a roll of small plastic bags if i think something is too soiled to put in with clean clothing. When we are ready to pack to go home, i just put the cubes back in the suitcase and I am packed.

Check out YouTube and I'm sure there are videos that suggest how to pack them and probably comparisons to other packing methods.

Another who uses them for all of us. They are incredible for keeping a neat and organized suitcase. You can fit so much more in the suitcase when the clothes are rolled neatly and put in cubes than you can just tossed in a suitcase, even rolled.

I'm a packing cube believer. Won't travel without them now. I invested in Flight001 Spacepak because I like the opposing clean/laundry sections. I collected them slowly over time and completely love them.

I wasn't really sold on them (and still am not for single-stop trips), but when I did my Med cruise this summer and had a couple of nights in Barcelona before boarding, it was nice to put everything for Barcelona in one cube and leave everything other than that cube and the toiletries bag packed.

We too have switched to packing cubes and packing envelopes. Wish we had done it years prior! Each person in the family has their own cube colors. I fold or roll the clothing items for the cubes. It is great to have a cube for socks, another for undies, another for pjs, etc. Dh and I use the packing envelopes for our shirts and shorts/pants as it keeps everything flat and less wrinkled. The DDs shirts and shorts still go in cubes because their clothes are smaller...lol

Works great when you need to live out of your suitcase or toss in a drawer. Doesn't matter how jumbled the cubes get because everything inside them is still neat. We keep dirty clothes in a pop-up hamper on vacation and after doing the laundry, we put back into the respective cubes so that the dirty/clean never mix.

Another benefit is at the airport. If your suitcase is too heavy, just switch a few cubes around. If TSA goes thru your luggage, it keeps everything organized since they are usually searching around for my super dangerous hairspray, curling irons, and bath-n-body works products that look menacing on xray machines:rotfl2:

We use ebags brand cubes and Eagle? packing envelopes.

I use the ones from ebags, too. I LOVE them! It makes packing and organizing so easy and then, when we arrive at the hotel, I simply open a drawer, place the cube inside, unzip, fold the flap to the bottom and, we're unpacked! I also like them when I pack to leave as they help me separate clean clothes from laundry very easily.

Eagle Creek. We have a couple of their envelopes too.

Another vote for the Eagle Creek brand. DH has one or 2 of their packing envelopes. He likes them for this shirts.

I tried packing cubes but my preferred method is to buy ziplocks in gallon and 2 gallon size. I put an entire outfit in a bag (undies, top, bottoms, jewelry, accessories, shoes).
I take out my stuff the night before, hang up, use some downy wrinkle release and febreeze to freshen and straighten. After wearing I hang up and spray again, let dry, and pack back up for trip home.

I put DGD's clothes in zip lock bags. That way I can toss her a bag and it's got all she needs in it, from skin out. And we have zip lock bags handy for other needs while there. Like when we did a tie dye t-shirt craft. Handy for getting it home. They don't work for our grown up clothes though, even the 2 gallon. Which by the way, made me sad. Her clothes got too big for the 1 gallon size :(

Oh wow, and I'm not little and have large feet (9.5) and all my stuff does fit.

I use the compression cubes to save space and make sure we can pack everything for our 1-2 week trip(s) in carryon. I also colour code for the 5 of us. Each person has their own colour of cubes. I really, really like the packing envelope for nicer clothes too. I'm not convinced that's what it's called but it's from Eagle Creek and it folds my nicer shirts and pants really well.

Edit: Clearly I didn't read replies before I posted! Add me to the bandwagon of Eagle Creek and packing envelopes!!!

IKEA had some packing cubes a couple years ago that I bought and love them. Very good price and they have held up really good.
