Do you think Disney will ever prohibit video/live streaming from the parks?

Read that there is a sign in the Contemporary Hotel lobby stating “Photography, video recording & live streaming are strictly prohibited. This also includes other Social Media Platforms. Only company sanctioned photography is allowed.”

It is front of The Wave which is being renovated but wonder if we will start to see those signs at other WDW locations. I could see maybe during the pandemic Disney not complaining because many people could not make it to the parks, and it was a form of keeping the Magic alive.(free advertising) But now that things are slowly getting back to normal and with the surge of WDW vloggers will they stop it? Aka if you want to experience WDW buy a ticket and come see it up-close and personal and not in a free live steam. (tim t: "and now it's time pay the price")

I enjoy watching the videos and live streams but always wonder if people in the parks especially the water parks and hotel pools mind being seen by thousands of people while enjoying their vacation. I know I would object if someone was recording my 300-pound body in my tiny speedo. (although I bet a lot of the DIS ladies would love to see that sight. Lol....or maybe Ewww!):scared1:

Yes. I think streamers like Resort TV1 days are numbered. Sooner or later there will be some type of "incident" streamed live that reflects badly on the resort, a cast member losing their cool at a guest or some such and Disney will knee jerk react by banning all live streams.

So no one is allowed to take pictures or video? That would go over like a wet blanket. Will security start confiscating all cameras (meaning all smart phones also)?

Regarding the bolded, there is going to be no expectation of privacy when in a theme park or public areas of a resort (except in a bathroom or changing room). So others are totally allowed to video and take as many pictures of you as they want.

I doubt it. They hold special media events for social media influencers and they know that a lot of these vloggers have over 100,000 followers. That is excellent free advertising for Disney. I thought the sign at the Contemporary was to prevent construction spoilers at the Wave or something? I don't see how you can prevent people from taking photos and videos- how do you delineate them from regular tourists?

I noticed that one set of vloggers I follow started to blur their backgrounds all the time- so you can't see other patrons' faces.

So just to be clear, this sign is specifically saying they don't want anyone filming the Wave reno, as opposed to saying you can't film anything at the hotel (which would be impossible to enforce, among other impacts).

Not sure they can with guests. I would be too much work.
Their policy with the news media has gotten stricter. 40 years ago we could take our cameras in Disneyland with an escort, now you have to use a Disney photographer if you are doing stories in the park.
I had a long talk with one of the PR folks with Disney who is 100% in favor of Disney putting in their own Live Streaming Cameras on the web. He says Disney will never go for it because they can't 100% control it. And at least at Disneyland, they aren't happy that the Howard Johnson hotel has a pretty nice live streaming view of the park.

I suspect Disney's current success is attributable to social media and vloggers constantly pumping out content. Sorry, Disney-made content isn't very interesting. Sure, they can tell people to stop recording, it's private property. But I wouldn't be surprised if people realize there are other places to go on vacation after 2022.

I always to ride my bicycle through the Loire valley of France instead of sweating my butt of in line for a lame ride in Fake France.

Probably not and mostly due to enforcement. It would take way too much effort by cast members to investigate every person talking into their phone camera.

I will say though I have come across a few streamers in the parks and they annoy the crap out of me. The last time I was on the Safari when it ended some girl swung her gimble into the drivers face. And then proceeded to ask him his name and then say "O..M..G Jeremy you are LIKE my favorite operator, you are AMAzing tell everyone out there HELLO".

I said out loud behind them "my god people are desperate for attention".

How would that work with someone like Julie Tremaine at SFGate? She takes photos and obviously is doing so for a professional purpose.

I'm not sure what she did to get into Disneyland though. The terms for all passes were that they couldn't be used for a commercial purpose. It's my understanding that someone like a tour guide or a photographer brought to document someone's visit would have to purchase a regular ticket. We were talking about this when it came to disabled "guides" hired to reduce wait times for "clients".

I can only guess they don't consider her a professional photographer, or she sneaks in.

Probably well under the radar. I'm also thinking that there are some reporters from big new organizations that have their permission, such as from the LA Times or OC Register.

We were there when Disneyland reopened, which was closed to the media. We did live shots from the sidewalk across the street from Disneyland, and got video from a family we were profiling who had reservations and were allowed in the park.

I was just thinking about this while watching a vlogger at a Disney restaurant. It actually felt uncomfortable, how their camera was directed at the table behind -- how intrusive it felt. I wouldn't feel comfortable eating my meal on someone else's (public) camera.

On the other hand I find The Trackers seem to consider this and try to film without including other people as much as possible.

Taking “home” videos is one thing but taking video’s and live streams to show on social media platforms and make money off of is another. I would think Disney could stop that if they wanted to. As someone mentioned above, I wonder if Disney would ever try and cash in on it with their own daily live streams and shutdown the other vloggers. Being more discreet and not have tons of iphones on gimbals and big cameras with microphone puffy wind muffs pointing at guests. I used to love the behind the scenes Disney shorts on the Disney Channel seems they don’t have as many now. Like maybe a daily feeding of the animals in Animal Kingdom live stream that would be wild. (no pun intended)

True, but I could easily see Disney limiting live streaming to just these events. Disney does like to control the message.

Right now, at least as far as I've seen, the streamers are primarily good Disney citizens. Respectful of guests and cast members alike. All it will take is one "People of Walmart" type streamer to come along who focuses on making fun of people and it will be lights out for all streamers.

Maybe- I just think it will be hard to separate those who are just taking videos of themselves for fun and those who do it for YouTube page or Instagram or Facebook or something. You can't tell one person not to live stream because they have 100,000 viewers on YouTube and tell me that I am allowed to live stream to Instagram because I only have 300 followers on a private page. And how would you be able to tell the difference between a live stream and someone just taking videos of themselves on a phone? Set up a Disney YouTube/TikTok/Instagram screening center and then go find people.. seems a bit too much to me.

That being said, I am a terrible millennial and think social media is garbage for the most part. So I really don't care either way :)

Oh, that’s happened before, although not live streamed.

Nope... it's free advertisement...they seem to hold special events for them, so I definitely think Disney is on their side. Now I could see something where down the line they may techno only allow certain vloggers who have been approved by them etc.

I think that the signage is meant to give them leverage to get rid of people who are causing a nuisance, either by drawing a crowd or by simply being disruptive and/or annoying bystanders.
Once it's posted it is a lot harder for the culprit to claim that they did not know there was a rule against it.
