Do you think booking affects the possibility of getting a pin code?

I am going to Disney at the end of January 2008. We have not booked anything yet because we figure there will be rooms available (its a slow time of year) and we are waiting to see what codes come out (we are very flexible about the resort we stay at).

Then I started thinking we might as well book a room-only reservation so we have SOMETHING booked up. I know its not a problem to make changes once the codes come out. However, since we are hoping for the lowest code possible (we have AAA, the Disney Visa, and would even consider buying one annual pass if it lowered the room enough) I was worried about the possibility that by booking a room it would be less likely we would get a pin code because Disney now knows you are going regardless of whether you have the code. Can anyone offer some insight into this?

Thanks (As always).

Sure wish I knew...Ive never had one either.

I also wonder if you book and then cancel, if they will send a code to entice you to rebook. So far that hasnt worked out though...I had to cancel our ressies for July and no pin followed.

We had a vacation package booked for November and then received a code through our Disney Visa (which they later opened up to the general public). I called Disney and they applied the code to our package and refunded the difference to my Visa.

I know Disney opens up codes during slower months to fill up the parks and resorts, but I'm not sure what months they actually open them up. I would assume that in October or November they would offer codes for January and February.

Good Luck!

I've got 10 different email accounts registered with different IP addresses. None of them have received a code yet. The email address they have on file is the one i use to book all of my trips. I've only received 2 codes in the past few years. The codes i've used are public codes and private codes that have been leaked out. You gotta stay on your toes and i keep my eyes/fingers glued to this site for discounts; my work has paid off handsomely. :thumbsup2

I just booked my dining reservations. The person at Disney (who was very helpful and friendly) asked where we were staying. I told him we haven't booked a place yet because whether we stay on-site or off will depend on what codes are available. Lets hope that makes it to my file!!!!!!:rolleyes1

In the past few years, discounts for Jan-Feb were released in the first days of November, if that helps.:goodvibes

The only time I have ever gotten a Pin by postcard was when we did not go for a few years.

I relly think if you are a "regular" visitor, then they don't send you a postcard.

I have an AP and I have never gotten a code sent or e-mailed to me before.. I did book a room last year before the AP rates came out and had no problem switching my reservations. I did have to stay at another hotel because AP rates are very limited.. We did go from WL to Poly! It paid to have the AP we got almost 40% off our room rate!
It was MLK weekend too.
I do wonder tho about not gettign a code when you already have a reservation which I do have again for this MLK holiday just waiting for the AP rates to come out!:tinker:

Not so sure about Dreams Unlimited, I'm withholding my opinion as of now. I went to their site last Thurs. morning to get a quote for a possible Dec. trip, and other than a "welcome email", I have heard nothing. Is this the norm???

Did you fill out all the information? If so, I'd email again. No, not hearing from DU isn't the norm.
My experience, thus far, is that they are quick and professional.

Filled out all the info and received an email confirming my request for a quote......and as of today, still nothing! 6 days and no word.:confused3

I would have waited through the weekend, and then I would have sent an email on Monday. Lots of possibilities, from they didn't respond to they did and it accidentally went into a filter, to who knows? Likely a quick second email will result in an answer. :goodvibes

Noticed you're going to Food and Wine. Hope you have a wonderful time! We're planning a trip there Oct 08. I'm already excited!

Only time we got a code was after being away from WDW for 3 years and we had already booked a trip staying at the Swan for spring break. So we switched over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge and had a horrible stay, salvaged only by a great 2 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Nobody here knows for sure how the private PIN codes are distributed to individuals.

But what we do know is that lots of people with vacations already booked have gotten them.

It does appear to be random and unrelated to having a booked reservation.

I have gotten not one, but two promo offers in the mail for 2007. We were last there in September of 2006, this past weekend would have been exactly a year ago. We have had our trip booked for months through AAA. When the codes came out, we took advantage of the Disney Visa code for our upcoming trip, only to find a pin code in the mailbox the next day for the exact same discounted rate!

I am signed up every which way imaginable for Disney promo stuff. We go about once every 9 months to 2 years since 2001 for a total of 5 trips with one just around the corner. I always try to book about 6 to 9 months out, but last year we booked only about 10 weeks out for a quick weekend trip.

We have never stayed in a Deluxe before. We have stayed at ASMu, POP, CSR, and CBR. I don't really think there is much rhyme or reason to Disney pin promo offers. Usually, when we have gotten them, we can't use them due to the time frame that they cover. I would love to get one again like we did for this year. I am planning a trip that involves Gabby's family next year in December. Maggie
