Do you think a bony chest (ribs showing above breast) is attractive on a woman?

NMAmy said:
Well, umm, my collarbones and the bones in my chest are apparent and you can count my ribs. Some people are just skinny--I eat like a pig. Maybe I should stop wearing V neck sweaters! DH doesn't find it unattractive and that's all that matters to me!

Thank you NMAmy! I am underweight, and I eat like a pig too, but can't seem to gain any weight, haven't in about 12 years, except when I was pg, then I lost it all without trying in the first 3 or 4 weeks after delivery.

I hate it that everyone who doesn't know me assumes I'm anorexic, bullemic, or have another eating disorder just because I'm thin and YES, my collarbone and other bones show alot. There are some people who are naturally thin and can't do a darn thing about it.

Stepping off my soapbox now...

I've always wondered about this myself. People who would never dream on commenting about someone being overweight have no problem commenting on someone being thin. I'm not starving myself. Everyone in my family is thin--I just got the luck of the genetic draw. DD gets to hear it now and it really annoys me.

Perhaps we should start a thread...Do you think cellulite on thighs is attractive on a woman and watch the responses. :earseek: ;)

By the way, I do have some cellulite on my thighs thanks to having a bubble butt. No matter how much I work out, there it still is.

But really when did it become acceptable to get on thin people and to sit here and say, yeah that's unattractive.

It doesn't mean they are anorexic or unhealthy or underweight. It could just be the body type. Thin on top, heavier on the bottom.

Hmmmm, well you yourself just said you "got the luck of the genetic draw". I'm guessing that thin people are fair game because most people strive to be thin. By saying you got the luck of the genetic draw, aren't you saying that fat people got the short end of the genetic draw?

I think there are extremes on both end.....being terribly thin, regardless of whether or not its a matter of genetics or someone starving themselves, is not particularly attractive. I don't think being terribly overweight is either. THat doesn't mean i think the terribly thin or terribly overweight person is a bad person, simply that I find those physical attributes unappealing. DH thinks a woman with a bony chest is physically unappealing....other guys on this thread like it. So what? Variety is the spice of life.

I only think it's unattractive if the woman has a large frame and is obviously underweight.
Note: this is not saying skinny bony women are unattractive. Naturally thin people have small to medium bone structure.

Also, tiny girls with implants look unattractive when they go bigger than a large B (ex: Tori Spelling)

If I had a choice between the two, hello bones :earboy2:

Gaining a little weight is just as easy as a diet change.(up a few essential things, I did it when I was weightlifting) Losing weight can be a bit more complicated though :D

snoopy--it's just that I wouldn't go around commenting on someone's body type--whether overweight, average, or thin. And for some reason, people feel it's ok to come right out and say things like, "Boy, your knees are really boney."

As to the genetic luck thing--My dental hygienist used to take comfort in the fact that even though I could eat anything I want, I have really bad teeth even though I try to take care of them. She said it's just God's way of evening things out.

I'm not trying to be snotty--I just don't understand why people feel obligated to comment. My sister was thin to start out and when she got Hodgkin's disease and had to go thru chemo, she got even thinner. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who asked her to her face if she was anorexic.

NMAmy.....I don't think you are trying to be snotty.....I'm just pointing out that most people think its acceptable to put down thin people because its the ideal that most people strive for........ I pointed out that you said you got the luck of the genetic draw to prove my point......

Listen, I completely understand where you are coming from. I'm of average weight, but I'm tall. A business associate completely embarrassed me last year by exclaiming, in a meeting, that I was "a tall cool glass of water". I was humiliated.......but in the end, I understood he felt that it was o.k. to comment on my stature because its the ideal, or at the very least, not a negative thing in most people's eyes. Doesn't make it right, but it might lend some perspective as to why people think its acceptable to comment on those physical attributes that are typically thought of as ideal.

I thought the ideal for women was shorter rather than taller. Following the whole "men want women smaller than they are" line of thought.

If you mean like this photo, it's not attractive IMHO.

Well I guess the media portrays the ideal woman should be built like a model, tall and thin.

But you've made me point.....everyone has a personal preference, regardless of how politically correct they might want to be. A shorter man might indeed find a short woman more attractive, which would throw the "ideal" out the window.

I was referring to men in general preferring short-ish women, not just short men, although that makes perfect sense as well. I thought models were only tall because the clothes photograph well on tall women. Go figure.

I completely agree that everyone has their personal preferences, which is a great thing, since humans aren't made with cookie cutters.

Goodness we get bent out of shape easily (no pun intended). The OP asked if we found bony chests attractive. Some have them and/or like them. Others don't. I'm sure some prefer large chests and others don't. It really doesn't matter what anyone else likes or dislikes. Each person has their own preferences for how they want to look and/or what they think is attractive. That's what makes life interesting.
