The other day I saw something cute. I was driving home, and passed a woman in her yard sitting, probably gardening. She had a big yellow lab with her sitting facing her. In the brief time it took me to pass them, I could see that she was having an actual conversation with this dog. He was tilting his head in response, and she was looking him directly in the eye talking to him. I don't think it was a training session.

I have "talked" to my dogs, "good boy", "come here", "do you want to go outside", and even a few longer praises/commands. But as far as extended conversations, I am afraid that I don't do that. (I don't know why not, they're probably the only ones in my house that will listen to what I say!)

Do you talk to your pets as though you were having an actual conversation? What do you talk about? Do they talk back???:goodvibes :dog: :cat:

Ahhh that's cute!!
But no I dont, just the ususal..."Hi Lilo", "here kitty kitty", "stop scratching", and "your a brat" :p

Ummmm, yes? Is that strange?

Sambuca and I have conversations. I like talking with her, because she agrees with anything I say! :teeth:

I talk to my horse apache all the time

i tell him a lot of stuff.. he knows what im saying too.. i know he does.. the other day the owner of the barn was yelling at me and then i was out to get him and he wiped his dirty nose on my shirt and i told him all about it.. he stood and looked at me with his ears forward the whole time.

Talking to my puppy is cheaper than hiring a therapist. Jake will listen in exhange for food.

All the time... we don't have anything particular we talk about. I have to admit, sometimes they do talk back... they don't say much, but they do say some things :)

I talk to Tommy all the time. Dh and kids think I'm crazy
He has been with me for 11 years and I always talk to him . I work at a vet clinic and I take him with me to work when my Dh is on shift . The girls that work for me talk to him also .

He never answers but if he did ....... I wouldnt be in the same room long enough to respond .

I talk to my doggie all the time. I've been told that dogs love the sound of their owners' voices.

When I'm home alone with him, which is a lot during the week, I talk to him quite a bit. I chatter while I do housework and cook, and he follows me like a shadow, listening to every word.

I enjoy his company, although he has to go in the yard while I vacuum, sweep or mop. For some reason, pushing things around the floor upsets him. I can understand why the vaccum is a problem--it's noisy--but a broom? Who knows what goes through those canine brains.

Are you kidding? I talk to all 4 of my cats and YES, they DO talk back!!

My Xena talks continually. She even ask "questions"! When I come home she jumps up on the nearest thing that she can talk directly to me and just jabbers a bunch of nagging questions to me. Then she stares at me as if she's waiting for an answer!

I agree, it IS cheaper and more effective than a therapist!

Another thing I do is SING to them. They truly love it. Max loves "Jesus Loves the Little Children" because I sang it to him when he was in the Kitty hospital everyday at lunchtime. Now no matter where he is he will purr and roll around if anyone sings that song!

Although Denny isn't with us anymore, I used to talk to him a lot. I wouldn't have full conversations with him, I would make comments like, "Why are you laying there? Your usual spot is by the front door." No matter what I said, it was always good for a tail wag and a doggie kiss. I miss having conversations with him! Yes, this is normal. :)

Of course! Especially when DH isn't around. I need someone to talk to, so the boys are always up for that.

And, to be perfectly fair, every day Wedge and I have a conversation in kitty language. He meows at me and I meow back. I have no idea what I'm telling him, but he is always very happy after we do it.

I talk to myself quite often :) Hahaha.

Seriously though, I talk to our pet goldfish. I tell him he's really spooky. :)

Yep. I tell Sadie how much I love her, talk to her about her heart defect, talk to her about her hip when she seems to be hurting. I tell her some things that are bothering me. She has never talked back...in fact usually she falls asleep on me...just like my DH does..

All the time! ::yes:: :cat: Emma is a really good listener and sometimes I think she can understand what we are saying! ::yes::

Yeah - I talk to Cody all of the time - haven't stopped even though he's been deaf for about six months.

I talk to my dog all the time. Sometimes I talk to her when we're out in the yard. My neighbor thinks it's funny how I talk to her. Plus, she doesn't talk back like the kids do! She just listens.

Regarding the dogs, they're not listening, you know. They are just hanging tough, hoping that when you finally shut up the whole episode ends with a treat.

;) ;) ;) ;)
