Do you talk to your pet! I mean REALLY talk to your pet??

I usually talk to Muffy (Muffin) about things going on around the house. "Gosh these kids make such a mess!" or "Oh - wonder who the Johnsons have over?" We talk about what she's doing...her barking at the neighbors or playing with her food. More interesting is listening to my 5yo talk to her, tho - she asks her to dance (and proceeds to dance with her) and asks her if she loves her...stuff like that.

BrerLizzie - I also had a horse named Apache. I used to talk to him all of the time. He found me when I was in 6th grade and helped me get through many trying teenage years! He was with me until he passed away 2 1/2 years ago after 23 years with my family. He waited until I was out of town to do it too! I had some serious conversations with that horse -and yes he listened::yes:: probably better than my husband does

I've tried having serious conversations with our family dog - but it's so undignified when she lays there on her back and wags her tail...a little hard to be serious...and I think she's just holding out for treats...:p

Yep, I talk to our dogs all the time! They love being talked to. Please don't think I'm totally crazy, but when we are gone for a long day or vacation, I talk to them on the answering machine or the phone! They bark back.

Here is how I think our converations go in the mornings:
Me: "Good morning, Murphy! let's go out"
Dog: "thank goodness you got up, I gotta go."
Me (after he goes out): "Good boy, Murph."
Dog: "Where's my cookie?"
Me: "Go get Daddy" (he gets in bed and noses DH's face)
Dog: "Now where's my cookie?"
Me:"Let's take your medicine" (dog runs to fridge)
Dog: "Cookie? At least rub my belly!"
Me: "Almost time to go, where're my shoes?"
Dog: "I want my cookie- don't forget."
Me: "Okay, Murph, love you. I'll be home in a few hours. Don't tear up the mail."
Dog: "PLEASE I want my cookie."
Me: "Here's your cookie."
Dog: "I love you!"

Hmm, maybe it is all about the treat. ;)

Wait a minute - it's not ALL about the treat. 50% of the time around here it's either "Mom! Dad! There is a person/animal on our property! I need to alert you as loud as I can until they leave my line of sight!" or it's "I want to go out and play! The kids are outside...why aren't I? Ooh - is that the leash you're getting?"

The other 50% of the time it's about the treat.

I used to talk to my German Shepherd - Sampson - God Rest His Soul, he is waiting for me at The Rainbow Bridge.

When he was alive I would talk to him all the time. I considered him my first born, and I would talk to him as if he was a real person - and he would listen. He was my best friend and I miss him dearly.

Oh my I sure do talk to my Honey and Sebastian and they might not know what I'm talking about but they pick up vibes if I'm happy or sad.

Cheyita, you are SO right! I stand corrected, and glady. Our guys feel the need to tell me every time a squirrel/bird/rabbit/other dog/car/kid goes by!

Oh my goodness yes!! I talk to them constantly. They know what I'm saying too and they answer me and ask for food or to go in the bathroom.

Isis is talking to me as we speak. He was on top of the TV and his daddy threw a pen at him to get him down and he is asking me what that was.

My puppy and I have very indepth conversations sometimes. Sometimes he answers back, but sometimes, he just looks at me and sighs. I can't tell if the sighs mean he agrees or if he's telling me to shut up.;)

Oh, I talk to them all the time. (and no, they do not talk back.) I make the dog or cat listen to a play by play of what I am doing. I might ask them what they think about something. All in good fun.

Nah, My Cat is a gossip, she'd tell all my business to the neighbor's cat and then I'd be in a mess.

Yup. I talk to our youngest doggie the most. But she is all mine. We have 2 others, one is dh's, one is ds's and one is mine. I also had another who passed just this last Thursday (one of the worst days of my life!). I talked to Sammi alot too, but she got so deaf she didn't even look at me anymore.:( But little Sugar will climb up on me and sometimes growl (good growl) and yip at me! Very cute! But I do think she is just saying, "don't know what the heck you are saying mom!" LOL!

When I was in High School, I was a geek's geek. I was so "out of the loop" that it was sad. When you don't make friends growing up, you turn to anything breathing that will listen, and that was my dog, Missy. I could talk to her for 10 minutes, no problem.

She came into my life when I was lonely, and passed away about 5 weeks before my 1st son was born. She was the best.

Dave

Oh yes, I always tell him how handsome he is and what a good boy he is and that he is King and that I love him so much. :teeth:

I tell Cali she is a Princess and I love her also, and she is a good girl.:D

Sure do! Our DD, who is an only (human) child, tells all her friends that she has a big brother and he is a cat named Woody. I have long conversations with him, mostly centered on how wonderful he is and how lucky we are to have him share "his" house with us!! After all, with a cat, it has to be all about them or they will have nothing to do with you!:teeth: :cat:

Regarding the dogs, they're not listening, you know. They are just hanging tough, hoping that when you finally shut up the whole episode ends with a treat.

Yes I talk to my babies. :) One I have quite the conversations with! She talks back constantly!! It's so cute. :)

Not lengthy conversations, but we do converse none the less........he tilts his head when I talk to him & he's a very good listener too;)

All the time. When I leave the house I always tell her where I'm going and when I'll be back. It's hard not to when she's following me around clearly asking where I'm going.

Yes I talk to my 2 :cat: :cat: and my bunnies too. The cats miow back at me when I talk!!
