Do you shop based on return policies?

Very strange. I assume they didn't wait until after Christmas to return them? Because many stores have different policies for seasonal items. I have no issue with that.

And 90 days sounds quite generous. I will happily continue to shop there.

That's pretty much the only place I shop and I've never had an issue with a return. I think 90 days is more than enough. They've taken back clothing items that didn't hold up after my kids wore them a time or two without issue and took back a Dyson that lost suction after we used it for a month. On the Dyson, I couldn't find the receipt but took it back anyway because I knew they could look it up in my red card. But they couldn't find it on my red card because I had gotten a new chipped card since making the purchase. They still did the return and gave more than I paid in cash. I told the manager that it was more than I paid but she said it's what was coming up in the system and she appreciated my honestly but that's what she had to go with for the return.

As for electronics, 14 days is pretty much standard I thought. We bought a computer and a DSLR recently and were told we had 14 days on them.

I haven't bought any electronics in a brick and mortar store in a while. All my camera purchases are online. Not sure if I'd have to pay postage if I had to return something, but even if I did I would probably save enough on the sales tax to more than make up for the difference if I ever did have to return something.

No, I don't.

I shop based on price, and whether it's something I need. Two weeks sounds like an ample return period, tbh, especially for an electronic. I buy it, take it home, test it, if it's defective I return it, and if it works I keep it.

Why didn't you take it out of its box for over fourteen days? Was it a gift for someone?

Considering Best Buy bent their own policies to accommodate you, I don't know why you're planning to shop elsewhere in the future. Were they rude about it? Because otherwise, it sounds like they gave you excellent customer service.

(Full disclosure - I rarely return anything. If I found an unopened box of office supplies that I didn't need and wasn't going to use, I'd probably donate it to charity.)

Long story short. I ordered it by mistake. My father wanted me to order a blood pressure monitor for my mom, who has blood pressure issues.

Best Buy has an ebay store and I thought I had just put the item in my cart, but I guess the order went through.

So, it was sent to ME and not to my parents (we live 2000 miles away from them.)

When I realized my mistake, it had already shipped. I ordered another, from the Best Buy website directly, and had it shipped to them.

I was just returning the surplus. I don't need a blood pressure monitor.

$70 item.

And no, Best Buy isn't too far, but it isn't in an area I frequent either (8 miles away.)

Best Buy is one store I will never shop again. All I got is store credit. I do shop by how returns are dealt with. A few times in life I have bought things and it may have broke on there behalf. If I broke it no , I don't expect a return. But if it is on their end , I expect a return.

On another note:

I bought my son some Gap jeans last weekend and really hope they don't shrink, the website says no returns if the item has been washed.

But we really couldn't find any other jeans he liked.

Wash in cold water and don't dry them in the dryer. Jeans usually shrink. :(

If he really likes the jeans wash them in cold water and hang them to dry. I don 't put any clothes in the dryer and wash most of my clothes in cold water to make sure they don't shrink

My son won't remember to wash in cold water and hang dry. He does his own laundry.

Heck, I won't remember to do that. I barely have time to do laundry, much less do each item a certain way.

I really try to.

But it can't always be helped.

I just returned something to Best Buy and they didn't want to take it back because it was after 14 days. Wow, it hadn't even been opened. I thought I at least had 30 days.

They did take it back since it hadn't been opened, but I will know next time to look elsewhere for whatever the item is.

I don't shop at Best Buy because of their return policy, and I don't shop at Burlington Coat Factory because of it either.

For clothes, absolutely I do. In fact, I just ordered a new coat from LL Bean and felt confident doing so because of their generous return policy.

Turns out that it was too big, so I called their 800 number. They knew who I was and had my order number on file. I only needed to confirm the last four digits of my credit card. They're sending a new (smaller!) coat, and the UPS guy will pick up the too big one from my porch tomorrow morning. Easy peasy.

But you pay $6.50 shipping charge to return something, unless you have an L.L. Bean credit card -- then returns are free.

I don't shop at Burlington, either. it's been years since I've been there but I think they only gave store credit even if you had the receipt and it was within a certain time period.

That's why the credit card is worth it to me. Set it up to pay the balance automatically, and it doesn't cost a dime extra.

I'm glad they allowed you to return it then!

Did they start counting the two week return policy from the date you purchased it, instead of the date you received it? Because if that's the case, then I definitely see why you'd be irritated. It often takes longer than two weeks to receive an item you've ordered online.

That is what he was trying to figure out. It shows the order date and the shipping date but the receipt didn't show the arrival date (of course, as it was in the box.)

So I honestly don't know.

At least it is now taken care of, and a lesson for dealing with BB again.

Definitely!

Fortunately for me, it looks like Best Buy Canada has a much more lenient return policy.

Blood pressure monitors are listed under Home and Fitness.

And here they state that "Fitness Accessories & Equipment" come under the 30 days return if unopened: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/help/returns-and-exchanges-policy/hc1075.aspx

Looking up your American site... wow, yes. You have to be an "Elite Member" to enjoy a 30 day return policy. Every one else (aka, the unwashed masses) get 15 days.

I don't blame you for shopping elsewhere!

For those Canadians on the site, though... Best Buy Canada is a decent place to shop, at least when it comes to their return policy.

I do for big purchases, especially ones I'm worried I may not like. We try to make big purchases through Costco if it's an item they offer.

Yes, exactly. I do all the clothes shopping for my guys because they are miserable if I have to take them in the store, so I always end up having to return some things. No way that works for me at Burlington, because finding things there is so hit or miss anyway, I might not have something I want to buy with the credit for a very long time.

We have a clothing store (Hamricks) that I very rarely went to as they have some iffy brands, but have shopped there in desperation when I couldn't find something elsewhere.

No longer will even go there after buying a couple items, then deciding they wouldn't work, so returned them, I thought, 'just in time', but alas, the 30 days expired a day earlier. I mistakenly was thinking a month. (Yes, should have returned them sooner - just forgot).

Had the receipt, but because of 'one' day they would only give me current price (which recently had just gone to 50%).
Also, only store credit. Was so upset with them, finally after a year went in and used the credit - will go no more. Don't miss them either!

When I read this the first thing I thought of was Christmas presents. I like to shop for Christmas way in advance and spread out my purchases so I can pay with cash. Items that are bought in Sept or Oct are always purchased from Kohls cause they will take anything back with a receipt no matter how long you've had it. That is the one thing I like about Kohls.
