According to another thread Wal-Mart is not necessarily the best place to shop. I had no idea there were so many people who boycott Wal-Mart. This is somewhat surprising to me, but I have heard of it. So, I thought a poll would be interesting.

Feel free to post why you like Wal-Mart or why you don't.

I personally have mixed feelings about them.

My brother in law and my dd are at walmart right now hahaha. Why do I shop there? Prices are low and its just up the hill from me.

I only shop there in a pinch. Our Target and Walmart are across the street from each other so I usually go to Target. Our Walmart always has junk in the aisles so you can barely get through. It's always a mess and the check out lines are slow. They are planning on building a Super Walmart in the next shopping center over and replacing this Walmart with something else. I don't know if it will be better but I am willing to give it a try.

I shop there, but can't stand it. The lines are TERRIBLE, but everything is pretty cheap though so I still go.

I have a brand new Super Walmart Center right across the street so yes I shop there because they are WAY cheaper than Albertsons.

I shop at Walmart for most of our prescriptions 'cuz we don't have coverage and they are a) less expensive than most and b) give a AAA discount if you don't have prescription coverage.

We also have a Sam's membership and shop there a lot. Their film developing is the best (and cheapest) we've found.

That being said, the nearest Walmart to our house is icky. Everyone around here calls it "Wal-ghetto" (the Target nearest there is also "Tar-ghetto", so it's not just a Walmart thing). I ONLY go there to pick up meds. There are other WMs around that I'll hit if I need to get something there that are much nicer.

There have been some heated threads on Walmart over on the CB....if you do a search you will most likely find some. :sunny:

Yeah, I didn't do a search but was sure this has been discussed previously. I hope this thread doesn't get heated, as we should all respect another's view. :)

I shop at Wal-Mart or Super Wal-Mart at least 2X per week. I save a minimum of 35% over any other grocery chain, and our stores are clean and have great employees.

When raising a family with small children and being self employed, Wal-Mart is the only store for us.

I'm a Walmart boycotter. I've been Walmart free for 4 months and will continue to. This action was after news on Walmarts business practices. I shop at Target, Kohls, Meijer and other places.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but all retailers are following Wal-Mart's successful business model now.

So go ahead and shop a competitor, but don't think you are doing anything different by avoiding Wal-Mart.

We do shop at Wal-Mart because after the hurricane it was the only store for months that was open. I don't buy my clothes, shoes or hard items from there but do stop in to buy some groceries, dog food, etc... I have noticed that alot of businesses are starting to adapt Wal-Mart business practice models and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that yet.

I just plain don't like WalMart. I've been a Target customer for 4 years and will continue to be one.

I do much better on groceries matching ads with coupons-I just don't see the draw to Wal Mart. Their meat is disgusting, and produce doesn't keep well.

I will go in a pinch though-they are all over around here and the SWM 24 hour locations are convenient in the middle of the night when I am usually on the road. I usually don't go for low prices, I go because it is the only place open.

I can remember life in my hometown before Wal-Mart opened. There was a very successful downtown business district, bustling with activity in locally owned stores. 17 years later, and that same business district is a ghost town. No one could compete with the prices and businesses closed. My family's business, that has been in the town for 100+ years is closing this summer.

The other things I read and hear on the news are also disparaging, but for me Wal-Mart hit where I live, literally. :guilty:

There is a Wal-Mart in a town here that has actually increased traffic to the century old downtown "Main Street" shopping center. They actually give out coupons and other incentives to send shoppers to the downtown shops. All the shops there are specialty shops that sell things that Wal-Mart really doesn't (brand name clothing, candy, etc.).

Our Wal-Mart is disgusting. I only shopped there once before Target opened. Wal-Mart even had better formula and diaper prices, but I didn't care.

I shop Walmart for groceries occasionally but it's only because ever since we moved to a smaller town, the only other option is just as bad: dirty, cluttered, HORRIBLE customer service, slow check out lines (20 aisles, usually 4 have checkers), clueless rude people who get grabby, aggressive and don't know when how to say "excuse me" or God forbid move their carts out of the middle of the aisles. I'm also shocked at how many people who frequent Walmart think nothing of letting their kids run absolutely crazy like it's a playground.

Everytime I walk out of there I am SO grumpy - I feel like I've been through a battle. My mother always says that she just knows Sam Walton in rolling over in his grave.

I love Target however, and I pray for the day that they open a Super Target somewhere in a 20 miles radius :) And you will never catch me anywhere near a Sams club as long as there's a Costco within a FIFTY mile radius ;)
