I don't know what me think of it but I was remembering when the Milk Man used to come to house. We got milk delivered this way until I was 5 or 6.

Any ideas why milk used to come via delivery.

I remember the milk man. Everyone used to have insulated milk boxes on their front porch.
There is a small local dairy in our town that actually will still do deliveries of milk, eggs and butter.

we still have a company that delivers milk around here....my neighbors have been getting their milk delivered for years. I guess it tastes better than the milk you buy at the store.

my daughter looks just like him :confused3
I thought she looked like the mailman :confused3 ;)

We use to have a milk man. In fact, we have a milk box on our front porch that has flowers in it!

Back when milk men were common, many women were at home all day without a car so they had milk men that would deliver basic items like milk, bread, cheese eggs and butter. I know when I was a kid most of the moms were home all day and many didn't have cars.

When my parents were kids, people didn't have refrigerators so the ice man came around and delivered ice for your ice box.

A little OT, but we also use to have a charlies chips man that would deliver potato chips!

DH talks about the Omar man that use to deliver groceries. He is a little older than I am because I don't remember the Omar man!

There is still a farm here that sends out the milk man.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: What are we gonna do with you, PD??? :goodvibes

I DO remember the milk man!! He would leave the bottles of milk in front of our apartment door in a metal basket and the cream was always at the top. My Mom would skim the top off and make ice cream out of it!! Yummeee!!! This was in Brooklyn in the early 60s. I haven't seen one since!

Wow... I'm OLD!!!:lmao:

I grew-up calling a refrigerator the ice box and I also remember the Charlies Chip Man - those big tin barrels.

My family had a nice experience with a milkman a few years ago...we had a large expensive cooler chest sitting outside on the front porch, we had drained the water from it and just let it stay there for a few days

Well we started to smell something awful but couldn't figure out what it was...apparently a milkman mistook our house for another one and left us milk in the cooler! It spoiled and we couldn't get the smell out, so we got the company to pay for a new one.

Oh my goodness, the milkman, how I do remember those days! I grew up in a very close-knit neighborhood in South Philly, both sets of grandparents right around the corner, walked to school, walked to church, walked to see the Mummer's New Year's Day parade every year. Not only did we have a milkman, we also had the vegetable and fruit cart man, the javelle water man, and numberous others walking down the street pushing carts hawking their wares! I'm almost 52, so it really wasn't that long ago. Wow, things have changed so much; there's no way in hell I'd be walking down the street where I use to live now.:(

Back in the days of milk men, you couldn't buy milk at stores. It had to be delivered from the dairy as it was in refillable glass bottles. You left your used bottles for the milk man to to pick up as he delivered your new milk.

I remember the milk man and the Charlies Chip man!

Growing up we never had a milk man, DH did though. In our old town Schwan's delivered milk, that was really nice. There are some companies here that deliver milk but not many.

Hey, we still have a milk man! Comes every week, we get our hormone free organic milk in the refillable glass bottles! Very eco-friendly, this might be a renewed trend!
Seriously, it's a great service. Why lug it from the store? People get bottled water delivered, why not milk?

I am only 43 but I remember the knife man. He would come around with his cart and sharpen the kitchen knives, or work tools in the garage. Even the lawnmower bade.

Mikeeee

Up until a couple of years ago we got our milk delivered twice a week. We stopped because they kept getting the order wrong. The milk is so much better than the store. DH found a milk store on his way home from work that is just as good as delivery and cheaper too. So now my kids look just like the milk man too. :)
