Yeah, I remember it. Kinda fun, but like lawn darts, I can also understand why it had to be stopped. It was a little too natural, uncontrolled, unpredicatable. Disney is all about eliminating variables and this place had way too many.
I remember it well and miss it. (No swimming in the lake any more now).
It was very much like an old time swimming hole with some extra attractions. There was a quary turned water park in Michigan that reminded me a lot of River Country too. I went to both of these quite a few times when I was high school aged and have very fond memories.
I think my son (14 now) would enjoy these as much if not more than the water parks we go to these day, but with water safety issues this will stay closed.
It was a lot of fun. I loved Hoot & Holler Hollow, the rapids ride where you got stuck till someone bumped your tube, and the tall slides into the pool.
Our kids had a lot of fun there and they loved the pony rides as you walked towards the entrance.
As I understand River Country was closed because it used the lake as its water source which is against regulations. Has to use standard city water supplies like the rest of WDW does as do the other two water parks. Must be some worry about bacteria levels.
