To make a long story short, we originally booked the WL a few months ago. Now I'm considering changing to the Poly for the convenience of the monorail (we have a 16 month old going). My only problem is, my wife and I feel that the Hawaiian/Island theme would be better suited for the summer months, hence the WL choice. We would go with the CR, which we find better themed for Winter, but it's all booked.

Help me out Disney experts, would you stay at the Poly in January???

Please explain.

I would pick the Polynesian or WL for January, but probably the Polynesian. The CR seems too cold and uninviting already, and with winter... :sad2:

I would definitely pick the Poly! In the middle of winter, "Hawaii" is the place to be!:)

I'm not sure where you are coming from, but we are from Pennsylvania, and the Poly looks like Heaven in January to us.

The over all atmosphere in Florida is not like winter in other places. It could be as warm at 75-80 degrees, you never know.

OP, I know what you mean. We once went to the Polynesian the week before Thanksgiving. It was cool (high 50's) and windy when we checked in and I found the tropical theme to be a bit incongruous. It was the only trip we've made to the Polynesian where we had to wear jeans instead of shorts. The weather did warm up over the course of the week and all was well!

One funny thing - one morning we were getting ready to head out to the parks. My wife asked if I thought it was cool enough that we needed to bring sweatshirts. I stepped out onto the balcony and it was probably in the low 60's. Down below there was a CM cutting the lawn on a riding mower. He was dressed in one of those Air Force type parkas with fur around the hood and he had the hood up! The forecast was for a high of 75 that day which turned out to be perfect for touring.

With a small child, I would vote for the Polynesian (or other monorail resort) just to be able to roll off and roll on the monorail with the stroller. We took our then 18 month old to WL and while the boat to the MK wasn't too bad, the busses were miserable.

Have fun wherever you stay!:goodvibes

Being from NJ, I would take a tropical theme everyday and twice on Sunday in January. And the monorail? Forget it, I'm there in a sec.

Sorry, I'll clarify my statement. Basically, I've checked weatherunderground.com, as well as been advised by fellow DISers that it can get cold in January. My wife and I just feel that if we are in that small percentage and we get a cold snap during our trip, then it would feel weird with cold weather and a tropical theme. Plus, we wouldn't be able to enjoy that Poly pool that so many have boasted about.

I don't know, the WL just seems better themed for the months where it can get cold with the big fireplace and all. But as I'm sittin here typin, I'm thinkin I may regret it if it turns out to be warm during our trip and I didn't do the Poly!

Maybe I'm being too picky. In fact, I know I'm being picky. When it comes down to it, I Love the WL and Poly and I have to find the little things to help sway my decision ;) . That's why I've asked for advice from those who've stayed at the Poly in January and from those who just have advice to give :)

Yes!

The POLY is great anytime of the year! :rotfl:

We love & visit the WL often too, however, the POLY is my first and still my favorite! :thumbsup2

I love to stay at the Poly any time of year but definitely in winter! Not only for the Hawaiian theme but it's always interesting (at least for me) to check out the cultural stuff they have going on. Living up here in the Northeast I'd love to escape to 'Hawaii' at the Poly.

With a 16 month old, the monorail is a definite bonus. :thumbsup2 You can take the boat from the WL to the MK but the monorail runs more frequently.

I agree about the monorail, that's what originally made me start considering the Poly.
