I'm going to try to book BCV for December 28-January 3 this Wednesday. We need a 2 bedroom. I'm getting a little nervous! Before I've always called day by day and had no problem. I'm an elementary school teacher and there's no way I can call at 9am. My kids are in the room at that time and it's just not possible. I'm planning on calling at 11:15, which is when the kids go to lunch. Should I be worried about calling later? If I really need to, I can arrange for someone to watch my room for about 10 or 15 minutes at 9am, but is this really necessary? Thanks for any insight/opinions!

For us it was important to call at 9:00AM. Last year I did not call at 9:00AM, was waitlisted and the waitlist did not come through. This was for about the same dates that you are looking at.

Good Luck! Hopefully you will not have the same experience!

For those dates, absolutely. When I called for BWV at the beginning of this month, the lines opened at exactly 9:00am. I started dialing at 8:58, got the closed message, 8:59, closed message, exactly 9:00 got right through (used www.time.gov).

I absolutely agree that it's mandatory. You are talking about New Year's Eve. Those dates are always at 100% capacity.

Just a suggestion, you can book 11 months out on your home resort based on your check in date for up to 7 day later, this morning you could book 12/25 with a check out of 1/1. As the nite of 12/31 is the problem, why not book 12/25 - 1/1 now and add the nites of 1/1 tomorrow and add 1/2 the next day. Then cancel whatever days you don't want at the beginning. I did this for my stay at OKW, booked 12/24 - 12/31 yesterday and added the nite of 12/31 this morning so I check out on 1/1.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I'll call in an assistant to watch my kids for those 10 or 15 minutes. Hopefully it'll be a quick call.

This year I tried to book the same time period but not until about 5 months out. We were waitlisted and eventually got BWV and SSR split stay. It was a hassle to move and I had to call DVC many, many times to get the rooms so this year I vowed to call at exactly 11 months out.

I hadn't thought about it that way. That's kind of clever. This whole new policy really has me feeling very nervous about our reservation. I'm not loving it.

Be aware that 10-15 minutes might not be near enough time. I was on hold for quite awhile. I called at 9 sharp.

I guess DVC wasn't considering elementary school teachers when they decided to open at 9. :rotfl: I'll probably end up putting the kids on absolute silence and giving them a nice long journal prompt to write while I make the call. I'll feel really guilty about it though. I don't like to be taking care of personal issues when I could be working with my kiddos.

I think I would also feel a little guilty about calling today and having my reservation start on the 25th. I feel like I would be cheating someone else out of a room who actually wants it that night. :confused3

I have to tell you that if you were my kids teacher I wouldn't mind at all. My DM was a teacher for 30+ years and I know how hard you guys work. Also, here in Texas the requirements for kids have gotten outrageous. I understand highschool kids needing to buckle down, but when you have 5 year olds worried about the test they have to take it is just absurd.

Thank you. :goodvibes
It just seems like the system won't work if everyone does it that way. I already don't like this new system, but starting a reservation early and then cancelling just seems like it will add an unnecessary element of complication. I don't know, just my opinion.

Trust me, you don't want to get me started. ;) Suffice it to say I agree that the testing and associated pressure is out of control.

Hopefully the pixie dust will be flying on Wednesday and my kids will be well behaved and I'll be able to make the call with no problems!

Well, I woke up this morning to about 5 inches of snow and shortly thereafter got the call that school was canceled. I decided to change the dates of our reservation by one night so I could book today since I'm not at school. We'll now be checking in December 27th for 7 nights. We're in a dedicated 2 bedroom with 2 queen beds in the 2nd room at Beach Club Villas. Someone was smiling down on me when He sent this snow!! :cool1:

The new system still makes me nervous, but I was happy to see it work. I got through right at 9am without a problem and was off the phone by 10 after.

Great! The snow worked for you! I can't think of another reason to like this weather we're having.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I added a day to my ressie today so now we are in a 2 bedroom,2 queen dedicated for 8 nights at the BCV's beginning on Dec26th. Yeah!!!!!!!:cheer2:

I didnt make my ressie for the first 7 days until 4pm yeasterday and added a day today at 11:30

sometimes pixie dust is sparkly and sometimes white and falling from the sky!

That's a hard to get catagory of room too... congratulations!!!

Glad you got what you wanted! We had a weather day today too (ice) but I need to call NEXT Tuesday. I teach as well, so maybe we could have more ice? :confused3 No, I take that back - it isn't worth it. I will just trust my husband to make the call! :rotfl2:

I'm glad to hear you've had luck not calling at 9am. I am going to call tomorrow when the kids go to lunch and try to add the night of January 3. Somehow this snow day left me with an extra day in Disney. How did that happen? :rotfl2:

That's why I was so nervous about getting it! The 2 br/2 queens is our favorite room at DVC we've tried so far. They're so big and we love the location and pool at BCV. Of course, we've never tried a grand villa anywhere!

I couldn't trust anyone else to make the call. No one in my family can wrap their mind around something that isn't going to happen for 11 more months. I'll tell them about it about 5 months out and they'll thank me then! Good luck to you next week. Sending pixie dust...let us know how it goes! :goodvibes

We're booked for OKW December 25 and 26 followed by BCV for the next 7 nights. I am going to try to switch those first 2 nights to AKV or VWL at the 7 month window. Now that is just way too much pixie dust for one person to ask for! :rotfl2:

I think I can trust him on this one. I have to give him credit for being as anxious as I am. I am just the "organized" one, so I have the thrill of doing all the work. I like to have all my papers and everything organized. I don't often let him get in on the excitement. I think he'll be excited to actually get to touch the paperwork. :lmao:

We want a standard view studio at BW. It'll be after the holidays, but I haven't ever called before (our first ressie!!!!) and I want to get what we want. Thanks for the good wishes. I'll let you know how it comes out!
