I was at a picnic in north FL last week and everyone thought I was weird for putting salt on my watermelon! I'm from north Alabama, so maybe it's a regional thing?

I hate watermelon..I always buy it, and think I love it :confused3 , but find it  ..

However, getting back to the topic at hand, I have NEVER seen that.

I am from north Florida and my yankee husband thought I was insane the first time he saw me do it. Where in north Florida were you?

I've done it before, but I don't like it. My grandmother does it; she's from Baltimore.

I know people that put salt on all kinds of melon but I don't personally. I don't put salt on much of anything. The people I know are all from the northeast.

Yes I eat salt w/ watermelon or else I use sugar. I'm in Texas and have always seen it done.

We salt it here in Louisiana too- I don't usually because I'm not really a salt person- but when serving watermelon you generally offer a salt shaker with it

I was in Tallahassee. I thought it was a southern thing, so I was surprised that people there had never seen it. Oh well, Floridians are a weird bunch anyway!

Nooooooooo! I love watermelon and wouldn't think of doing that! :scared: But ... my father loved watermelon and he did it all the time! pirate: We are from the Philly area.

I am from New York and I have never heard of anyone using salt on fruit except here on the DIS. I would NEVER do it was I don't use salt on anything, not corn on the cob, not fries...nothing.

I can eat watermelon with or without, but cantaloupe must be salted.

I learned it from my step-Dad who's from California.

I live in Florida and I've never even heard of putting salt on watermelon until this post.

I don't eat it that way but I don't think it's weird. My dad puts salt on watermelon and cantaloup. He's from Michigan.

I'm from New Orleans and my watermelon and cantaloupe must be salted. Dh, from Pittsburgh, thinks I'm nuts and defeating the purpose.

I voted no, although when I was a kid we did put salt on our watermelon. My folks are both from the South.

I'd heard of salting cantaloupe, but never watermelon. I almost never salt things anyway; the only thing that comes to mind is scrambled eggs.
