We've been hiding the pickle for 30+ years. It finally needed replacing (oops - Crunch!) and we picked up a new one a few weeks ago from the Chemnitz folks. Nice to keep the tradition alive.
Okay...so DH and I went to the Yankee Candle Store in Williamsburg tonight (we were finishing up some Christmas shopping)...and we walked into the Christmas area and there stood a tree COVERED with pickles!!
Needless to say, we HAD to buy one (as we laughed hysterically)...
We want to play hide the pickle on Christmas morning!!! I think I'm gonna make him hide it!
Our family plays this. When my sister was younger (maybe 7th or 8th grade), she had to write in a journal in english class. Once she had to write about a favorite Christmas tradition, her entry went something like this: "Every Christmas, my mom and aunt make all of us leave the room while they hide the pickle." We found this journal recently and were hysterical. Her teacher must have wondered what kind of perverted family we had.
