Do you need the design studio to plug your cricut into your computer?

Do you need the design studio softwear to plug your cricut into your computer and download stuff? Someone told me that you didn't but I looked in the manual and I can't find where it says anything about hooking it up to the computer.

I have the little bug.

You cant "download" anything. You need software. What you are probably thinking about is Sure-cuts-alot. It is online software that costs $70, but you cut any true-type font (most you download for free). So as opposed to buying carts, you download new fonts.
However if you use the software and cricut people (provo craft) find out, they void the warranty on the bug.
