Do you need a map?

My first trip was over 20 years ago...I am making my 6th trip back this fall. While the tradional rides of the parks remain the same, attractions change. I always study the most current maps before my trip so I can get fast passes (& ride) the most popular attractions earlier in the day. Then we relax and vacation...

I need a map for AK. I hate the layout of that park.

Don't need a map for Epcot or MK.

See another NYer agrees with me!!! The layout of AK is just awful!! I need a map and I still miss/overlook tons of attractions! :rotfl:

I really think that park needs some sort of tram/train to get you around. It's just too big!

The only park we occasionally need a map for is DHS. We just don't spend enough time there.

I think I could draw the MK map from memory. I know for sure that I can map out where all the bathrooms are in MK, Epcot, and AK. :lmao:

Okay I will admit to using a map in MK but in my defense dd and I have APs to DL which we use 3-4/month - so sometimes I am thinking DL while in the MK - I know I need to get to MK more often -- LOL!!

DD loves them and grabs one each time we enter a park - they are great for entertaining her while we wait in line.

I always have one handy just in case. Don't know where ALL the restrooms are.

That's really the only use they have for us now as well. And also where to tell other people in our party to meet us without having to deal with ambiguity.

Wait, aren't you New Yorkers supposed to be used to walking around everywhere? ;) I guess with taxis and subways you don't really have to...

I have to agree with most everyone else that the only park that still requires a map sometimes is DHS because there are so many side streets and dead ends and whatnot. Other than that, I just grab maps at the end of the day to keep as souvenirs!

I always grab a map and look at it when I am in line. Like PPs have said, I only still need to use a map for DHS because I still get turned around in that park.

I like to have a map with me just to see what I did & what I need to do. I know the layout of the parks but I like to consult the map.

Nope. I'm directionally challenged. :rotfl:

I keep studying the maps in the hopes that I can do better on this trip. Only time will tell, I guess.

Yes, but not in jungle conditions!:rotfl:

That park gets SO HOT in the summer months. I've heard that it's always 10 degrees warmer due to the foilage!

A little tram ride with a blowing breeze would be nice and I might stay there a bit longer and actually get to see FOTLK!:rotfl:

No maps for me either.

What's weird is that I've even had other guests ask me how to get places (or sometimes I'll just hear someone behind me saying "Well she looks like she knows where she's going, let's just follow her.") I've decided there must be a little sign over my head that says "Undercover Cast Member."

No maps needed for MK, DHS or Epcot... but I do kinda need one for AK

I used to carry the maps to find smoking areas - but since I am now a non smoker (284 days and counting :thumbsup2 ) I dont think I will need them any more

well maybe in MGM - that one confuses me sometimes...

I can probably navigate pretty good without one, but I'm sure I would miss a lot. I know the main attractions, especially in MK, but I need a map. My DS is a map nut, we spent a good 15 minutes looking at the map on Tom Sawyers Island, I have many pictures of him examining maps on our last trip. He is 5 and probably wouldn't need one, but I do :lmao:

I get each of my kids their own map. So mine won't get left behind, wet, sat on, torn, misplaced, folded wrong, etc. etc. :thumbsup2

We not only navigate without a map, but some of the places we talk about as landmarks are no longer there (but we all know where they were, so it works out fine).:lmao:

It's funny you say that. The first time I went to WDW with DH he was trying to use the maps and I would just know where to go. He was amazed lol Now he knows that I know the parks well enough and maps aren't necessary
:-)

I only need a map for Animal Kingdom, because the size of the park. MK, EPCOT, and MGM are easy to get around.

No need for maps here. After around 13 or 14 trips, I would hope I would know my way around by now. However, my mother drives me nuts in EPCOT because that's the park she tends to forget where things are. I'm always like "It's this way."
