Do you "move" on the weekends?

We are relatively new DVC'ers and our 2nd trip is coming up. In order to maximize our fall vacation, I've decided to move on friday.
My husband is not getting this logic, he doesn't understand my need to "hoard" points. But if I do it this way, we can stay 10 nights in October. So tell me do you this too?

Also, where do you move to?

We did it when we were first members, then we added enough points to stay through the weekends, it was just too much hassle for us. But lots of folks do it, and seem to enjoy it. It really depends on your vacation focus.

Never have, never will. Way, way, way too much hassle.

I bought enough points for my vacation. We stay through a weekend every time.

Sorry, but I think moving for the weekend to save points is absurd, I suggest buying wnough points.

We did it ONCE and then immediately added on more points so we wouldn't have to move. Now, I like staying at different resorts, and this summer we're moving once, but by choice. We're going for two weeks, and for me two weeks in the same room is too long. So, we're spending a week at the GF and then a week at BWV. We own enough points for a week on a one bedroom during Magic season. DH talked about another add-on last night, so we might be getting more REALLY soon!!!

Yup.. like to save the points and avoid the crowds ! Last trip we drove down to Ft.Lauderdale, Next big trip (6/05) we will rent a condo on the coast.. maybe daytona, maybe clearwater.. The web has some nicelooking ones with daily rates on oceanside. Haven't decided what we will do this Dec yet.. maybe Vero?

Avoiding the crowds is the issue for us.. plus, by not staying the weekend.. like you, we can stay a day or two longer. Works for us!

I've used the member discount or an AP rate to extend my stays in the same room over weekend night(s). I'm paying $301 incl tax for an OKW 1 bedroom in May for a Friday night, it would have been 48 points.

nope - bought enough points to not have to move, or I would pay cash. Unless you are leaving to try say IOA or Universal, Sea World, then coming back, but I would probably do that first or last, not in between my trip.

We have enough points to stay on the weekends if we wanted to, but we don't. By moving for Friday & Saturday night we get to stay at one of the non-DVC resorts for a couple of days and we end up with more points to use at another time. We've moved to value, moderate and deluxe resorts. Our goal is to try them all. We usually do a Sun - Thurs at DVC, Friday & Sat somewhere else and then another Sun - Thurs at DVC.

I bought enough points to stay the weekends. For me, it would be too much hassle to move just to save points. I would only do this if I wanted to experience a different resort, or move to IOA.

Our vacation time at DVC (7 - 9 days, but usually 7) is too precious to spend it changing rooms.

Never did understand the attraction of staying in multiple resorts/hotels for trips less than 2 weeks:

*You get to pack and unpack more than once

*You get to be without a room for a large portion of the day

*You get to be without ready access to your luggge for a large portion of the day

*You get to worry about room assignments/views more than once

*You get to stand in lines in the lobby more than once

*You get to worry about your "perishables" spoiling

*You get less park/activity time

All that for an extra day or two? Not for me, LOL!
(Seems to me that time-wise, I be ahead to make the most of the time we have, anyway)!

I used to worry about running out of points before I got tired of going to WDW. At one time, I actually thought it was a good idea to inconvenience everyone (especially me, LOL) so that we could stay longer next time. And on the next trip, I'd be focused on the the trip after that - and so on and so on. Finally I remembered that we'll be back every year at least once, for at least a week, for MORE THAN 30 YEARS! No need to be so silly!

P.S. We did add on, but that really didn't help. Just gave me more points to "hoard". The secret is to realize that you'll be back - often!!!!

Best wishes -

I would not move. Defeats the purpose of buying DVC. But we do pay cash for weekends when we can. Call MS and see if you can book the same thing you have for the weekend with cash. It's usually a better deal.

We generally never took a trip that spanned 2 weekends. Usually what we do is arrive on a Friday, spend Friday/Saturda/Sunday night in a regular hotel(oniste) and then move Sunday to the DVC, and check out the next Friday.

I would probably not want to move twice in the same trip, so if I was going to be there over 2 weekends, I'd probably "bite the bullet" and pay the points for one of the weekends.

I generally only stay 5 days not a problem for me - I need to unwind before I go back to work - I drive to Orlando.

DVC lets you check in at 7:00 am.

We do not move either. My family refuses to move. You really need at least a week somewhere to feel settled in. We originally had 6 nights at OKW and 4 nights at BCV for our August trip. The family took a vote and decided to stay put at OKW. I feel like Carol too.

So far, I've CHOSEN to move twice for weekends. The first time was when I arrived 2 days before my extended family, and I chose to spend those 2 weekend nights at Dolphin. The other time will be my upcoming trip, where again it will only be myself doing the moving. I'll spend the weekend at the Swan. Both times I've decided to save the weekend points while also trying out another resort. The first time was very little hassle, because it was just me and my stuff.

Our group HAD to change rooms twice for our Dec. trip while at BWV because our waitlist for NYE standard didn't come through. So we had to change rooms on the 31st, and then again on the 1st. What a major pain for a big group! I'm not sure I would choose to move for a weekend with a large group, after experiencing it as we did. :( But on the other hand, I know that plenty of people change rooms with a big group and don't seem to mind at all. :D

I do use weekend points for most stays, although I do cringe when I realize how many points I have to use on a weekend during peak season. I have to do most of my traveling during peak season, so that's the way it goes.

We've never moved and I don't think I ever want to. We bought enough points and plan our vacations around those points. If we means we pay Friday and Saturday points so be it.

Nope, we joined DVC so we didn't have to be miserly about how long we stay. I don't wish to waste vacation time changing resorts and packing and unpacking. We made sure with our original purchase that we could do a full week in a 2 bedroom at our home resort during our usualy time of travel. We nearly doubled our points the following year, when we realized we wanted to take more than one trip a year. Only once have we stayed elsewhere, and that was for one night when we flew in late and spent one night at AKL before our OKW ressie started.

That is what we do. At the beginning or end of a trip, we spend one of the weekends at Universal to get the front of line access. The weekend is usually very busy at WDW so this gets us to the fornt of the line at US and we still spend 7 nights at DVC.

I have enough points so I don't have to move, but we choose to move to visit another great place.

We bought enough points to stay for a week once a year, but if we wanted to go for more than once I would move. I think I would move at the beginning of the trip instead of the end though. I just couldn't go from a dvc to a hotel room. I'd rather go from a hotel to a dvc, that way I could do laundry on the last day so I wouldn't have a dirty clothes when we got home.

Once we are in our DVC villa we don't move. However sometimes if we arrive on a Saturday we stay somewhere else that night(AS, Contemporary-any WDW property-we're trying to sample them all) and then move to our villa for the remainder of the vacation(usually thriough the following Sat or Sun).
I can see why people do move, and I try to maximize my points as well, I just prefer to do it at the begining of the trip.
This time we're staying in our 1 bedroom Fri-Fri, though.
