I make the bed but not using the comforter.
In one-bedroom units and larger, usually after the first night, the comforter is folded and placed on the top shelf of the closet, not to be seen or used again.
I take the extra blanket and sheet out of the closet, double up the blanket (I get cold at night), place the top sheet over both blankets, fold the top portion of the existing top sheet over everything, safety pin the sheets together accross the top (I bring my own everywhere), and tuck everything in on the bottom. My very own make-shift duvet cover - so nothing but clean sheets touch my body! I got the idea from my Mom who got it from a 5 star resort that did this for all the beds.
In the morning, I pull everything up and cover the bed and pillows and tuck in the edges under the bed. The top surface is then nice and clean to dump and fold clean laundry on.
If we stay in a studio, then I would probably pull the comforter up over the bed in the mornings to make the bed, since people tend to sit on the bed during the day in their "outdoor" clothes. Yuck!
Yes, my DH thinks I'm finky, but you should see my Mom!!!
