When you make reservations do you make special requests, if so what are they?

Since we are new to DVC, I was wondering if we should or not. We have two trips coming up, 4 different resorts and we did not request anything special.

Not so much now. Previously, we requested non-smoking for medical reasons, but we don't have to worry about that now.

Now if we are by ourselves, we usually only request a location within a resort, and most of the time, that is done through booking categories. For example, on our upcoming OKW trip, we are in the "near Hospitality House" category.

If we have guests, they tend to be older relatives and that often leads us to request 1st floor at OKW...again, for medical reasons.

Depending on where we are staying and how many are going with us, our requests have been any combination of the following:
1) Ground Floor
2) Upper Floor
3) Lake View
4) Near the Elevator
5) Near the Pool
6) Dedicated 2-Bedroom
7) Specific Area: Congress Park or Grandstand (SSR)
:) :) :) :) :)

We try to get top level and close to main area. Only works about half the time.

When we stayed at the Boardwalk we requested a quiet area away from the Boardwalk...It can get very loud there at night and we did not want the noise to get in the way of needed sleep...

When we stayed at VWL we requested a water view...

At the Beach Club we requested an Epcot view...

At SSR we requested to be near the main pool and a view of water.

We only make requests at OKW - we need ground floor - medical reasons

OKW - request canal view (I have the building numbers written down somewhere)
AKV - request ARUSHA savanna
SSR - request Grandstand
BCV - request first floor (higher than that can get an icky view)
VB - request ocean-facing view
BWV - request higher floor
:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I have from time to time with mixed success. Normally I depend upon the luck of the draw and for the most part have made out fine. For example, last December I ended up with a DTD view at SSR without requesting. I have only made requests twice:
1) AKV Concierge - requested Savanna view and got it, ended up preferring the pool view
2) AKV 2 BR - requested Arusha savanna, instead ended up with Sunset Savanna and liked it

Coming up:
- AKV Kidani in December, requested 2nd or 3rd floor because I prefer being closer to the animals.

Sometimes. It really depends on where we are staying. For example, at SSR, we request Congress Park, Grandstand or the Springs. This trip, we requested a Savanna view (we're staying in a 1-BR value). However this summer, we are staying at BCV, and I didn't make a request.

When I make a dedicated 2-br reservation at VWL, I request one of the 'atrium' 2 bedroom villas.

so far my only request has been for The Grandstand when staying at SSR. I have an upcoming AKV concierge ressie coming up and thought about requesting a savanna view since it will be my birthday, but will just go with the flow.

No request is ever guaranteed, with the exception of the different booking categories (such as OKW Hospitality House locations), but if you have already made the reservation, I would recommend asking that a new confirmation showing the request be sent to you.

On our last trip to OKW, I had made a specific building request, after I had already made the reservation and had the confirmation in hand. When I called to make the request, the castmember said they noted it on the reservation. When I checked in, I asked about my request and was told there was no request on my reservation.

I realize that I might not have gotten it anyway, but I was annoyed that it was not even noted on my reservation to begin with.

Since you're new to DVC you probably won't know what you'd prefer at any given resort until you stay there. Our first stay in 2005 was at BWV and having never stayed there (and not not knowing about the DIS) we didn't request anything. We were the first floor facing the waterway across from the S/D. The view was wonderful, but we had about a 1/2 mile walk to the elevator ;) (we were the 2nd to the last room on the hallway). Now I request to be "close to the elevator" at that resort. On our last trip they honored that request.

Other requests we have made:
AKV - ARUSHA savanna, close to elevator
SSR - Grandstand preferably building near quiet pool
BCV - close to main building of BC
BWV- close to elevator

Well since we prefer BWV we always request upper floors, that is about how detailed our requests go.

We will be at the BCV in October and my requests are only upper floor, and we prefer a canal view.
In the past, in a 1 bedroom at BCV and BWV I requested a balcony off the Master Bedroom and we did receive that each time.
Have a Great Trip.

We've only owned for about a year and a half, but so far we haven't made any requests. I've thought about it and would do it if I had a specific reason to, but I prefer to see what I'm given. Sometimes you get a nice surprise with a great location that you might not have otherwise known about.

When we stayed in a 1BR concierge at AKV last December, I considered requesting savannah view, but didn't and happily got it anyway. When I booked my trip for this December, I did book in Kidani, but that's a booking category rather than a request.

:rotfl: I answered "sometimes" but probably should've said "always"!

I did not make any special requests for our first 3 visits (OKW, VWL & AKV) but I have for our upcoming trips (I requested the Grandstand area for our upcoming SSR stay and a view of the quiet pool for BCV and an open railing on our OVIR balcony at VB in August). Making a request will probably be my new trend, but it will likely just depend on which resort we're staying at. :rotfl2: IF we were to try BLT for example I would probably not have any requests. Well, maybe for an upper floor for an improved view. :rotfl: OK, so maybe "sometimes" IS the right answer.:confused3

If we travel with friends (about 50% of the time) we ask to be placed close to them.

Usually I'll ask for whatever's available now . I hate to miss my afternoon Disney nap...
