Do you literally have to "hawk" over your computer to get an AP room discount these days?

Someone recently told me that AP room discounts go so fast these days that in order to get one, one must vigilantly check one's computer every day and book the very hour they are announced especially for Deluxe hotels? If you happen to miss the day they come out and are not booking the hour they become available, you'll likely miss out.

I've stayed away from WDW for a few years but is that true that one must hawk over their computer like that these days to get the AP room discount? :magnify:

I hawk over my computer because once, a few years ago before I became a passholder, I procrastinated around calling about a discount. By the time I got around to it 48 hours later, there was zero availability left at the resort where we were staying! I was very upset by this! I dislike calling Disney and putting it off made me lose my discount! I don't know if it's the same for passholder discounts, but I'm not taking any chances! I check daily for discounts, and as soon as I come across one, I will call and add it to the reservation!

What hotel or what class of hotel do you have if I may ask?
k5thbeatle - all classes. A few I see in each category -Values: All Stars coming up starting at $97/night, Pop at $114 night. Moderates:CBR - $150/night, POR $197/night. Deluxes: WL $316, BCR - $311, SSR $278. That is just a few coming up. Dates used 8/5-8/10.

Like a lot of resort discount related topics, the answer is pretty much "it depends." Depends on the resort, room type, view category, time of year, etc. Lots of factors come into play related to the availability of discounts.

But generally speaking, yes, one should be somewhat vigilant in paying attention to when they come out IF a discount is absolutely critical to your stay.

That being said, I don't necessarily stress about it. I book deluxes and mostly CL... and (generally speaking) and can usually find an AP discount that fits my needs, often for somewhat last minute travel (eg, planning 30 days out).

A bit tough to generalize on the topic, but that's been my experience.
