Do you like to go camping?

DS & I like camping as long as we have a cabin. This year we decided not to do the cabins that dont have bathrooms.
So mid Aug we do have a 3night camping reservation in Maine. This campground has cabins w/toilet, sink, kitchenette, sm fridge, sink in kitchen area, etc. DS likes hanging out in the woods, catching frogs, etc. We enjoy the pool, slide, campfires and other campground activities.

We have a family reunion we would go to and camp. Although you all will probably consider this cheating.
We did sleep in a tent, but I did have an air mattress, and a mini electric fan.
Since we were in someone's yard, we could go to the house and take showers, etc. In the barn where we all hung out it was screened, airconditioned, with a freezer, stove, microwave, etc. And a room upstairs where all the kids played when it was raining.
There was a volleyball net, we all brought squirt guns, etc. We would all sit around the campfire telling jokes or some of them would be singing and playing. Not campfire songs, regular music. lol

Now, that tent leaked on me three years in a row. Then we got an rv, and guess what. The last time we were in it, it leaked on my bed. I'm beginning to wonder. :teeth:

Camping is fun. I love going out with the boy scouts and camp. One of the best trips that I had was spending five days on Munson Island off the Florida Keys as part of a BSA High Adventure. Munson Island is owned by the BSA and is part of the Florida SeaBase. It is also where the movie PT 109 was filmed and after my DS and I got back from the trip we had to watch the movie to try to identify the places on the Island used in the film.

But I buy no means do the roughing it kind of thing!;) We always go once a year with DH's family. Their a blast! This year DH wants to do more. We have a new fifth wheel sitting in our backyard itching to get out. We brought it home and parked it just in time for winter to set in.

So soon as it warms up a bit...I'll be out there getting things ready, then we're off!!!:D

Tent campers here.
And I was always one of those "no room service is camping" type people...right up until the boys became active in scouts.
So now we try to get away from it all (and bring as little of it with us as possible) usually 7 or 8 times a year...which considering the length of summer, is quite a bit for us here!!!!!

I grew up camping in tents and later a pop-up. I love it and have taken the kids a few times. My DH isn't a camper. We just bought a new van with a towing package though and he said he would consider buying a used pop-up if we could get a good deal. I was totally shocked, but I have been searching the papers for a deal:)

My wife's idea of "camping" or roughing it is a 4 star or less hotel so we do not do it.

Patrick, your wife's a VERY intelligent woman! I agree with her completely!

We really enjoy it. I hated it as a teen though. I went with a group from church YEARS ago and it was AWFUL!! My dh begged me to give it another chance "his way" and now we go as often as possible. We have a pop-up now and I would not really say we rough it by any means. Dh always over packs and we have heat and air,TV/vcr and a potty in it.

I hope my picture post worked! We LOVE to go camping. It's tent/car camping. There are 4 couples, good friends for more than 20 years. Our children have grown up together and at this point are having more fun than we are!! They even have their own fire. We go twice a summer for long weekends. It's getting harder to find good dates, because some of them are heading to college now, but STILL don't want to miss these trips.

It's really a blessing to have all of our kids be such good friends to each other!

Wow!! It worked. Can you guess which one is me???

We tent camp, but we only go once a year. My allergies are so bad anything before August isn't doable. We usually go on Labor Day weekend - we already have our reservations. This year we've talked two other families into coming with us - can't wait!

Yes...
I miss the days when me & dw would go to the campground & sleep in the back of my pickup(it has a cap:smooth: )
Now we go to the campground and get a cabin with 2 dd's..haven't done it in awhile, maybe this summer..:)

Disy where do you guys go?

I dont know how many Disers are in Washington State. Are there many?

We have several in Boise and Eastern Oregon. Are you West or East Washington? I lived in Spokane and Seattle for a long time thats why I ask :)

Our family loves to camp. We used a tent until a couple of years ago and now have a small tent trailer. It does have a propane stove and a sink (the water is in the tank) but we bought a small porta potty for me. With my back problems it was just too hard for me to use a tent anymore. We would love a small 5th Wheel or a small RV in the future but not yet. The kids all love to camp and now go with their own families usually with us.

I do!!! Only one place for us, though...Fort Wilderness!!! We went, for the 1st time, for Spring Break of 2001. I get youngest DS every other year for Spring Break. We are headed to FW in 30 days!!! We use a dome tent. It reminds me of my girl scout days. It is so wonderful at FW. You are not "roughing it" at all! They have wonderful comfort stations with HOT showers, washers and dryers, ice machines. Then there's the campfire program, which, if you haven't been to, is a blast! It seems even more enjoyable if you're actually camping over there! And just to think you're only a 10 minute boat ride away from MK! Can you tell I'm anxious to get back???;)

TC:cool:

We are also a camping family. We had a small, cozy tent up until last summer. DH insisted we needed a new one -- with 3 rooms in it. It could fit our entire extended family in it (not that we would EVER want to do that  ) It's huge!! Much more room than we'll ever need.

Groosch!

I like camping...under one of these two conditions;

1) early spring or late fall....so that we just put our sleeping bags on the ground (no tent)...and our 'camp' is the +/- 25 sq.ft. area around us with no runing water (unless it's from a brook/lake/spring....no 'plumbing' I think it's a real.... 'getting back to nature' experience.....or...

2) the cabin thing...where it's (in my mind...not 'true' "camping" ) but a sort of luxuary quazzi outdoors expereince (with running water/plumbing etc.)

having said that...some of my most favorite memories...are from a couple of months (collectively) spent....tenting....on horseback...in the mountains of Wyoming with my Dad! :):):)

You mean there are people who really choose to stay some where and sleep in a tent and not have an immediate indoor potty/shower? (like with in 10 feet?)

We love it, its actually more rv'ing than camping, i bet many of you would be surprised at how luxurious some of the motorhomes and trailers are these days. we saw a motorhome not to long ago that had french doors in it, but the luxury does come at a price - some pretty steep, up to an exceeding the million dollar mark:eek:
