Do you like to go camping?

We tent camp too. We try to get out a few times a summer, and for the past couple of years we've gone camping with another family as well. They have a pop up though. I grew up camping with my family, long before it was as popular as it is now, so when our kids were little, we decided to give it a try. We borrowed the equipment from my brother and off we went for a weekend. We had such a great time that the next year we bought our own tent, and have gone ever since. We have camped at Fort Wilderness, in our tent, at the end of January. The first night we were there, the temp. went below freezing. It was really funny in the morning to watch the expressions on the faces of the other people who had their big motor homes with heaters and tv's. They couldn't figure it out, but then they'd look at our licence plate from Ontario and nod at each other knowingly. We just laughed! We don't ever camp when it's that cold and I certainly didn't expect it to be that cold when we had planned our trip to Florida!

DH and I love to camp! I'm already counting down the days until we can start going again, usually in May. When the kids were little we started out with a tent, then "graduated" to a pop-up which we used for many years and had so many good times together. Then, when DH's parents got a new 5th wheel we bought their old one and have had that the past several years. We really enjoy it, but we're starting to look towards replacing it with a newer one, with slide-outs for the living/dining rooms and bedroom. In another year or two we want to start spending 4-8 weeks of the winter in Florida so we want a newer camper to take with us.

We started with a tent , moved up to old trailer and now we have a 5th wheel. We still call it camping but I suppose when you have a microwave and 2 tvs it really isn't. We have been going with the same group of friends for 20 years. The oldest of the our kids now in college. We live on the water side of Washington state so in the summer we go east to the desert side for lots of heat!

Where in Idaho are you I have a cousin in Athol . We always go th Silverwood when we visit.

We're not too far from Kim (Silverdale). We usually stay on the Olympic Penninsula when we camp - our favorites are Fort Flagler or Dungenous Spit. Over the years I've camped all up and down the Washington and Oregon Coast though. I did a lot more camping when I was single than we do now.

Love to camp here, go to state parks when we can. By the way, one state park has a water slide and a wave pool, find that at a Motel 6. I actually laugh at some of the budget and resort board threads asking about bringing crock pots, coffee pots, etc to the rooms. We just bring everything with us, hot water, tv, microwave, own bed, etc. It's great. Camped one time south of WDW in 98, this time in 04 staying at Ft Wilderness. Looking forward to it more every day.

Oh I LOVE to camp...the whole family does! In fact one of my favorite gifts this Christmas was a new tent....family sized! (Or Girl Scout troop sized!) BUT....there has to be a potty of some sort within walking distance!!!! Now I've never tried it so I guess I shouldn't say this BUT...I really don't think primitive camping is for this Dream!!! We love to explore our State Parks here...they are very beautiful! And while cabin camping is "cheating"...I still enjoy it once in awhile! One of my nicest camping memories is of a family trip to a small State Park here called "Fairy Stone". We were there over Easter. DD had just earned "whittling privleges" and DS was working on his "whittling chip" for Cubs. The cabin porch floor was covered in tiny bits of wood all weekend!! The only one who sliced a finger was dh!!!!

DH and I actually spent our honeymoon backpacking. We also spent 6 months thruhiking the Appalachian Trail 3 years ago. We try to get away for several trips a year now. IMHO, low-impact tent camping is the only way to go! This summer we are doing the Long Trail in Vermont, and this Christmas we head to Disney! Backpacking and WDW are two of our favorite pastimes. Somwhow, many of our "trail" friends don't get this. They think that the two just don't go together. BTW, once you get used to, ahem, "doing your business" in the woods, using an outhouse actually seems more disgusting! Hard to believe, I know.

WE go camping at least once a year!

Its a great experience for the kids - so its worth the sacrifice of being uncomfortable for a couple of nights sleep.

Last year my 1 1/2 year old followed a toad around for 20 minutes - and started hopping like it! It is the moments like that which make me go back again.


I hate packing up though! I wish everything was just set up fpr me! DH insist it isn't camping because I bring so much stuff. lol

Last year for our anniversary I proved to him that I can 'rough' it. I booked a weekend where we (no kids) canoed down the Conneticut river for the first day - stayed over at a very small camp area on the bank, then canoed the rest of the way the next day. I proved that I could 'rough' it because we could only bring what we could fit in the canoe!

It was AWESOME!

Totally, absolutely despise it.

I am allergic to a whole slew of insects and I do not mix well with the great outdoors. Plus I need a real bed and a real bathroom.

Thankfully my husband likes to camp and he takes our daughter on camping trips with his family.

We are tent campers but DH HAS to bring his little TV and plugs it in the cig lighter in the car.

We also take an inflatable air mattress and LOTS of tarps. I find it very relaxing and fun, although we tend to eat alot.

I would love to try FT Wilderness sometime.

We don't camp unless (like Patrick's wife ) you call staying in a 4-star or more hotel camping!!!

I love to camp but DH doesn't really. He will do it though to make me happy. We go once a year at least to Rocky Mountain National Park.

sig, we're in Boise but my mom is in CDA so we head up that way several times a year.

Disy my brother used to live in Silverdale when he was stationed in Bremerton. What a great area! I always wanted to move out there. DH and have debated on whether we would retire somewhere along the coast there or in Victoria ( He's Canadian). At any rate it will be somewhere in that direction ( years and years from now)


So nice to see so many other campers And I understand those of you who dont want to camp too. It can be a trial especially with kids
